Sensitivity Analysis of the CMB Modeling Results by Considering Photochemical Degradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Seoul atmosphere (서울 대기에서 PAHs 광화학반응을 고려한 CMB 수용모델 결과 검토)

  • Several studies have been carried out on the source contribution of the particulate Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) over Seoul by using the Chemical Mass Balance Model (CMB)(Lee and Kim, 2007; Kim et al., 2013). To confirm the validity of the modeling results, the modified model employing a photochemical loss rate along with varying residence times and the standard model that considers no loss were compared. It was found that by considering the photochemical loss rate, a better performance was obtained as compared to those obtained from the standard model in the CMB calculation. The modified model estimated higher contributions from coke oven, transportation, and biomass burning by 4 to 8%. However, the order of the relative importance of major sources was not changed, coke oven followed by transportation and biomass burning. Thus, it was concluded that the standard CMB model results are reliable for identifying the relative importance of major sources.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the differences in children's 'sense of place' followed by their development stages and to suggest a positive space design of school suited by their development. Haeng-Hyeon Elementary school was selected as the target area. The research methods of this study were based on drawing the cognitive map and a questionnaire survey. Through the cognitive map, children's development stages were determined. Also, through an awareness assessment, the places where the children had deep recognition were extracted. The questionnaires were based on knowing the places where children create their 'sense of place' and its reasons. The sense of place development factors are comprehended as physical factor, behavioral factor and psychological factor based on Relph(1976). The results were organized into a guide which has to be considered when designing an elementary school, sorted by adequate space responding to children's development stages.

Moderating Effect of Negative Emotionality on the Association between Teacher-Child Intimacy and Peer Interaction (교사-유아의 친밀감과 유아의 또래상호작용의 관계에서 부정적 정서성의 중재효과)

  • This study investigated the moderating effect of negative emotionality on the association between teacher-child intimacy and peer interaction based on a differential susceptibility model. The participants were 252 three-year-old children recruited from a day care center and preschool located in Incheon and Gyeonggi province. The teacher-child relationship was measured on a Student-Teacher Relationship Scale. This measure is a type of teacher's report with ratings based on a teacher's daily observations. This scale is composed of closeness items on the degree of warmth and open communication in teacher-child relationships. Peer interactions were measured with a Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale. This measure is composed of play interaction items, play disruption items and play disconnection. Negative emotionality was measured with Child Behavior Questionnaire. Teachers measured teacher-child intimacy and peer interaction scales. Parents reported children's negative emotionality. The research showed that negative emotionality moderated the association of teacher-child intimacy, play interaction, play isolation and play disruption. The magnitude of association between teacher-child intimacy and play disconnection as well as play interaction was greater for high levels of negative emotionality. Teacher-child intimacy was significantly associated with play disruption only for high levels of negative emotionality. The findings of this study support a differential susceptibility model.

  • 최근 사회적으로 IoT(Internet of Things, 사물인터넷)가 떠오르며 LBS(위치기반서비스) 시장에 대한 이슈로 인해 근거리 위치 인식 기술을 적용한 Beacon(비콘)이 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 이러한 관심에도 불구하고 아직 현재까지는 실질적으로 제공되는 서비스가 다양하지 않다는 문제가 있다. 우리는 본 논문에서 사용자의 라이프 스타일에 따라 다양하게 이용할 수 있는 비콘 활용 애플리케이션을 기획하였다. 이 방법은 비콘을 통해 모든 사람들에게 일괄적으로 같은 서비스를 제공하는 것이 아니라 사용자마다 자신이 지정한 다른 서비스를 제공하여 기존에 문제가 되었던 상기 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 제안하는 방법은 지정한 곳 근처에 가면 자신이 저장한 메모 알림을 주는 기능, 위치를 찾아 주는 기능, 일정 거리 내로 접근한 사용자의 정보를 기록하는 기능 등이 있어 이를 통해 유기견 방지, 아이의 하교 확인 등의 다양한 서비스를 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 효과적일 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구에서는 제안하는 방법의 기획의도 및 동기, 관련 연구 및 응용, 제안하는 방법, 예상 콘텐츠 시나리오, 기대효과, 결론을 소개하고자 한다.

Synthesis of Methylated Anthranilate Derivatives Using Engineered Strains of Escherichia coli

  • Anthranilate derivatives have been used as flavoring and fragrant agents for a long time. Recently, these compounds are gaining attention due to new biological functions including antinociceptive and analgesic activities. Three anthranilate derivatives, N-methylanthranilate, methyl anthranilate, and methyl N-methylanthranilate were synthesized using metabolically engineered stains of Escherichia coli. NMT encoding N-methyltransferase from Ruta graveolens, AMAT encoding anthraniloyl-coenzyme A (CoA):methanol acyltransferase from Vitis labrusca, and pqsA encoding anthranilate coenzyme A ligase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa were cloned and E. coli strains harboring these genes were used to synthesize the three desired compounds. E. coli mutants (metJ, trpD, tyrR mutants), which provide more anthranilate and/or S-adenosyl methionine, were used to increase the production of the synthesized compounds. MS/MS analysis was used to determine the structure of the products. Approximately, $185.3{\mu}M$ N-methylanthranilate and $95.2{\mu}M$ methyl N-methylanthranilate were synthesized. This is the first report about the synthesis of anthranilate derivatives in E. coli.

Differences in ruminal temperature between pregnant and non-pregnant Korean cattle

  • In recent years, various methods of measuring body temperature have been developed using wireless biosensors to facilitate an early detection of pregnancy and parturition in cows. However, there are no studies on real-time monitoring of cattle body temperature throughout pregnancy. Therefore, we investigated the daily mean ruminal temperature in pregnant cows throughout pregnancy using a ruminal bio-capsule sensor and then evaluated the temperature variation between pregnant and non-pregnant cows. In pregnant cows, the mean and standard deviation of ruminal temperature was 38.86 ± 0.17℃. Ruminal temperature in pregnant cows slowly decreased until 180 to 190 days after artificial insemination and after that, the temperature increased dramatically until just before parturition. Furthermore, the means ruminal temperature was significantly different between pregnant and nonpregnant cows. The mean and standard deviation of ruminal temperature were as follows: 38.68 ± 0.01℃ from days 80 to 100, 38.78 ± 0.02℃ from days 145 to 165, 38.99 ± 0.45℃ from days 200 to 220, 39.14 ± 0.38℃ from days 250 to 270 before parturition. Therefore, our results could provide useful data for early detection of pregnancy and parturition in Korean cows.

Production of Levulinic Acid Using Glucose Derived from Office Waste Paper (사무용 폐지에서 유래된 글루코오스를 이용한 레불린산 생산)

  • The optimal conditions for producing levulinic acid from office waste paper were investigated. Glucose was produced by enzymatic hydrolysis and its yield maximized by varying the soaking time of the substrate and amounts of enzyme and substrate. The optimal conditions to produce levulinic acid using the hydrolysate were determined by response surface methodology, with reaction temperature and catalyst (sulfuric acid) concentration as independent variables. The production model was assessed with an ANOVA regression analysis, and the results indicate its suitability for levulinic acid production (p, F, and lack-of-fit values were 0.003, 20.1, and 0.058, respectively). The optimal conditions were a reaction time of 56.27 min and catalyst concentration of 5.9% with a predicted yield of 2.588 g/L. We verified the findings under the same conditions and obtained 2.323 g/L of levulinic acid.

Usage of coot optimization-based random forests analysis for determining the shallow foundation settlement

  • Settlement estimation in cohesion materials is a crucial topic to tackle because of the complexity of the cohesion soil texture, which could be solved roughly by substituted solutions. The goal of this research was to implement recently developed machine learning features as effective methods to predict settlement (Sm) of shallow foundations over cohesion soil properties. These models include hybridized support vector regression (SVR), random forests (RF), and coot optimization algorithm (COM), and black widow optimization algorithm (BWOA). The results indicate that all created systems accurately simulated the Sm, with an R2 of better than 0.979 and 0.9765 for the train and test data phases, respectively. This indicates extraordinary efficiency and a good correlation between the experimental and simulated Sm. The model's results outperformed those of ANFIS - PSO, and COM - RF findings were much outstanding to those of the literature. By analyzing established designs utilizing different analysis aspects, such as various error criteria, Taylor diagrams, uncertainty analyses, and error distribution, it was feasible to arrive at the final result that the recommended COM - RF was the outperformed approach in the forecasting process of Sm of shallow foundation, while other techniques were also reliable.

  • Zhu Dan Xi's name is ZhenHeng(震亨) and was also called by the title of YanXiu(彦修). Early in his life, he started to study JuZiYe(擧子業), and went on to study DaoDeXingMingXue(道德性命學) under the teachings of XueQian(許謙), who as one of fourth generation disciple of ZhuZi(朱子) was teaching in BaHuaShan(八華山). His well-known literary works are ${\ulcorner}$JuFangFaHui(局方發揮)${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$GeZhiYuLun${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$ShangHanBianYi(傷寒辨疑)${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$BenCaoYanYiBuYi(本草衍義補遺)${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$WaiKeJingYaoXinLun(外科精要新論)${\lrcorner}$. Zhu Dan Xi learnt the studies of Liu(劉), Zhang(張), Li(李) from LouZhiTi(羅知悌) and adopted the advantages and abolished disadvantages from it. The southern district being low and damp, which also leads to a geographical condition with a lot of ShiReXiangHuo(濕熱相火) disease and with the social background of people exhausting their QingYu(情欲) and damaging QLXie(氣血), he came out with the theory of 'YangYouYuYinBuZu(陽有餘陰不足)', 'XiangHuo(相火)' and became a well renowned expert in diagnosis and treatment of QiXieTanYuHuo(氣血痰鬱火). As a result, the writer has performed a research based on Liu's works and related theories, GuWuZhiZhi theory, the understanding of TaiJiZhiLi(太極之理), the inner meaning of YinYang and YouYuBuZu(redundancy-and-deficit), YinYangDongJingGuan, physiology and pathology, the medical reason of lust damaging QingYuYangYin and YangSheng(養生)(preservation of health), which are the main medical theory of ZhuDanXi, comments of later generations and is reporting the outcome.

Prostate Cancer Risk in Relation to a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism in the Insulin-like Growth Factor-binding Protein-3 (IGFBP3) Gene: a Meta-analysis

  • Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP3) has been identified as a putative tumor suppressor with multifunctional roles in the IGF axis. Recently, there have been a growing body of studies investigating the relation between the IGFBP3 A-202C polymorphism, circulating IGFBP3 and prostate cancer risk, but their outcomes varied leading to controversy. Hence, it is necessary to perform a meta-analysis covering all eligible studies to shed a light on the association of IGFBP3 A-202C and cancer risk. Finally, we included a total of 11 relevant articles between 2003 and 2010 covering 14 case-control studies including 9,238 cases and 8,741 controls for our analysis. Our results showed that A-202C was a marginal risk factor of prostate cancer (allele contrast: OR=1.08, 95% CI :1.01-1.16; dominant model: OR=1.11, 95% CI :1.01-1.22; heterozygote codominant model: OR=1.11, 95% CI :1.03-1.18; homozygote contrast: OR=1.19, 95% CI :1.03-1.37). Stratification analysis revealed that sample size and control source were two major heterogeneous meta-factors especially in the recessive model (source: Population-based control group :p=0.30,I2=16.7%, Hospital-based control group: p=0.20, I2=30.3%; sample size: Small: p=0.22,I2= 32.8%, Medium: p=0.09,I2=48%, Large p=0.60,I2=0.0%); However, contrary to previous findings, no significance was found in racial subgroups. No significant publication bias was found in our analysis. Considering the robustness of the results and the discrepancy among some studies, there might be some unsolved confounding factors, and further more critical large studies are needed for confirmation.
