  • This study examines the process of urban formation in the city of Yanji. The analysis is done by the change of street pattern and major facility location in a timely manner by appling space syntax method. This research categorizes the pattern of the urban growth focused on two urban forms, street and major buildings, in the city and is offered of the meaning of the first value on interpretation of the urban growth in the city of Yanji. The result of the research are as follows. First, the period of the city transformation is divided into four stage; intuitive period, grid-iron formative period, consolidation period, and urban expansion period. Second, characteristics of each stage have been analyzed. At the first stage, the city started to frame along both buildings and streets which were placed without a plan. At the second stage, the city was planned and constructed into new grid-iron pattern ignoring existing context by Jananese colony. At the consolidation period, the road system expands from the city center toward suburban. At the last expansion period, the shape of the city has complicated its shape with complex road system. This study contributes to provide a basic analysis and data to investigate how the Yanji city has evolved over period of time. But further continuous research should be done for future urban development of the Yanji city.

  • Recently, the space organization of Korean-Chinese houses is different from that of other territories. The characteristics of eating and dinning space for Korean-Chinese Multi-family Housing are as follows ; ⅰ) The most obvious change in Korean-Chinese urban housing style was seen in kitchen space, which can be classify three types such as traditional type, improved type, and LDK type on the bases of heating and cooking method. ⅱ) Special feature of Korean-Chinese housing in Yanji city was that kitchen fulfilled important functions such as heating, cooking, dinning, sleeping, bathing and washing. Since then, each function was separated and functions of kitchen were cut down after all. iii) The arrangement of kitchen space have changeed according to the change of heating fuel, heating system, equipment, relatcd policy, etx. Multi-function kitchen discovered only in Yanji had lasted until 1980's by equipping heating floor system, which is suitable for sit-down living style. In 1990's, this kitchen style was prohibited legally, and the balcony area of kitchen widened due to the abolition of outdoor storehouse for foodstuff.

  • A comparison of students' media environments and media use patterns among Korean-Chinese in Yanji and Shenyang, Chinese students in Yanji and Korean students in Ulsan revealed significant differences. The research surveyed 3,241 students between 10-18 years old on their home media environments, media use patterns and social characteristics including achievement motivation and the locus of control. Korean children not only have more media in their homes, but they are also heavier users of computers and other media than the other two groups. Despite the lower rates of access to computers and other media at home, Korean-Chinese in Yanji reported more use of media including TV, VCRs and computers at the computer rooms than Chinese students in Yanji. Additional analyses revealed negative correlations between computer gaming at home and at computer rooms and achievement, internal locus of control and psychological and physical home environments. Impacts of Korea culture and societal changes on the Korean-Chinese use of media, and choice of media language were discussed.

  • Yanji city in China is a city most populated with Korean-chinese. This study is to examine architectural planning characteristics for Korean-chinese Elementary schools in Yanji city. Currently, this city includes nine Korean-chinese schools. This research has been processed with regards to three broad aspects. Firstly changing processes of school systems, secondly local distributions and networks of school facilities, and thirdly site plans, floor plans and elevations of school buildings were analyzed and examined for finding their characteristics. For this study, seven Han-chinese Elementary schools were also analyzed. The study result are as following: 1. Korean-chinese schools have followed national education policies and also maintained Korean-chinese native education methods. The schools have undergone merger and separation with Han-chinese Elementary schools. Three Korean-chinese Elementary schools in Japan Colonials, two schools in the period of the Republic of China foundation and its growing, and four schools in 1980s were founded. 2. Yanji city administers the networks of Korean-chinese school districts and Han-chinese districts separately. All school districts apply to lkm standard as attending distance. The networks are adjusted as per population change. 3. The characteristics of buildings' site plans, floor plans and elevations are simple. Layouts of the schools are - type or -type centered playground. Building plans show one side corridor type and 5 stories mostly. Elevations stress central parts. Various forms such as finger types do not appear in mass planning since the school curriculum and extracurricular activities are not seemingly active. Han-chinese Elementary schools have similar conditions.

  • Background: Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a widespread and highly infectious pathogen in cats with a high mortality rate. Although Yanji has a developed cat breeding industry, the variation of FPV locally is still unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to isolate and investigate the epidemiology of FPV in Yanji between 2021 and 2022. Methods: A strain of FPV was isolated from F81 cells. Cats suspected of FPV infection (n = 80) between 2021 and 2022 from Yanji were enrolled in this study. The capsid protein 2 (VP2) of FPV was amplified. It was cloned into the pMD-19T vector and transformed into a competent Escherichia coli strain. The positive colonies were analyzed via VP2 Sanger sequencing. A phylogenetic analysis based on a VP2 coding sequence was performed to identify the genetic relationships between the strains. Results: An FPV strain named YBYJ-1 was successfully isolated. The virus diameter was approximately 20-24 nm, 50% tissue culture infectious dose = 1 × 10-4.94/mL, which caused cytopathic effect in F81 cells. The epidemiological survey from 2021 to 2022 showed that 27 of the 80 samples were FPV-positive. Additionally, three strains positive for CPV-2c were unexpectedly found. Phylogenetic analysis showed that most of the 27 FPV strains belonged to the same group, and no mutations were found in the critical amino acids. Conclusions: A local FPV strain named YBYJ-1 was successfully isolated. There was no critical mutation in FPV in Yanji, but some cases with CPV-2c infected cats were identified.

  • The speech of Sino-Korean has been evolved from geopolitical cause since 1945. The aim of this study is to collect Yanji dialectal speech and to compare with South Korean dialectal speech. Twenty Yanbian university students participated as informants. Acoustic speech informations are analyzed using the Multi-Speech Windows Vista version. Dialectal speech characteristics of Yanji sino-Korean showed posterior vowel /${\alpha}$/, neutralization of mid-vowel /o/ between /o/ and /Ɔ/. Lenis stop sound showed the tendency of glottalization based on VOT value. Sibilant sound contains aspiration following constriction and lateral /l/ realized the approximant /r/.

  • This paper investigates the regional characteristics of street fashion in China. Yanji, Beijing, Shanghai were chosen as three different cities in terms of location, weather, population, and industrial structure. A total of 592 pictures were collected through an internet and fashion magazine search for street fashion in Beijing and Shanghai in addition photos were taken for those in Yanji. Pictures of each city were classified into groups based on overall images covering top, bottom, and accessories to identify the characteristics of style in each group. The classification process included 2 stages. In the first stage, it produced 2 groups: formal and casual. The second stage divided formal into business formal and retro formal; casual was divided into II sub-groups that were easy, sporty, feminine, sexy, ethnic, girlish, nippon, trendy, bulky, military, and mixed. Easy casual showed the highest frequency for 3 cities and military style showed the lowest. Shanghai showed higher frequency in sporty, trendy, and military style than other cities. Each style exposed the similarities and differences in the cities that reflected different regional characteristics.
