The relationship between particle size of hydro-thermally synthesized barium titanate powders (BT01, BT02, BT03, BT04, BT05) and the powder properties was investigated by means of particle size, specific surface area, zeta potential, XPS, XRD and SEM. Particle size determined by laser light scattering is closely related with specific surface area and the tetragonality (c/a) obtained from XRD. The specific surface area of the samples inversely decreased with increasing particle size except BT03 powder. BT03 sample showed higher surface area than BT04 sample of equivalent particle size, which was attributed mostly to the agglomeration of particles in terms of SEM image and XRD analysis. Zeta potential increased with increasing particle size with the exception of BT02 and BT03 which showed larger minus value of zeta potential in comparison with other BT powders. Beta potential results of BT02 and BT03 are considered to be related with the dissolution of $Ba^{2+}$ ion in these powers which was examined by XPS.
A technique for determination of proportions of char, coal ana coke is needed in order to monitor pulverized coal injection performance in operating blast furnace. Quantitative X-ray powder diffraction analysis can be applied to the problem providing that structural information on carbonaceous materials, coal, char, coke and their mixture are known. Chars were prepared from a coal at different temperatures (1000∼1400$^{\circ}C$) and were characterised by X-Ray powder Diffraction (XRD). The XRD result gave crystallite size (height Lc and diameter, La), aromaticity, number of (002) plane in carbon, and d-spacing. As a result, with increasing heat treat temperature of char, Lc$_{(002)}$, La$_{(10)}$ and number of (002) plane in carbon were increased, and d-spacing and FWHM(Full With Half Maximum) were decreased. Result of prediction of amount of char from the mixtures (char, coke and ore) based on the Lc$_{(002)}$ information of two mixtures (coke and char) showed very close values expected.
Recently, NDS(Natural and Durable Stabilizer)method and other similar methods are composed of inorganic accelerating agent and the ultra-super fine cement have been studied as the ground improvement material in Korea. However, in the existing research, the chemical changing process of NDS in the strength development mechanism with the elapsed curing time and the principles of strength development did not give an explanation. For the popularization of the inorganic grout material, it determined that the mechanism verifying of the curing process had to be clearly preceded. Therefore, unconfined compression test, SEM and XRD analysis were performed by the elapsed curing time and were analyzed. In addition, the same trial for SGR method, that is the representative example of the water glass grout material, was selected as comparative target in order to distinguish properties of NDS more clearly. The result of experiment, the strength development mechanism of NDS could be investigated through the close correlation of the unconfined compression strength - SEM - XRD analysis, and excellence of a performance was confirmed.
Roofing tile research conducted in Korea so far is mostly related to studies on roofing tile patterns excavation report on the roof tile klin site in the aspects of archeology architecture and history of art. There have been continuous studies on kiln ground and manufacture techniques of roofing tiles. However it is difficult to find roofing tiles research based on scientific experiments. The research on this paper performs physical and chemical experimental study to understand order, manufacturing techniques and other characteristics of Chosun Dynasty roofing tiles excavated in Dongdaemun stadium. As for physical experimental study water absorption, specific gravity, whole-rock Magnetic susceptibility rate and Differential Thermal Analysis are conducted. As for chemical experimental study, neutron activation analysis(NAA), microstructure observation, X-ray diffractometry(XRD) analysis are conducted. Result of neutron activation analysis and statistical analysis on piece of roof tile 22 samples clearly show that the roofing tile samples are from different time line and places. It also shows different composition when compare average value of rare earth resources per findspots. It means roofing tiles were manufactured from clay mineral from several places. Close inspection using XRD and polarization microscope reveals that main components of roofing tiles are quartz and felspar. Mica and Illite are found partially. XRD analysis shows mullite mineral composition which occurs when roofing tile is calcined around $1000^{\circ}C$. Differential thermal analysis shows gradual exothermic peak near $900^{\circ}C$. Based on these results, it is assumed that roofing tile is made at $900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$. result of XRD analysis shows mullite were made near $1000^{\circ}C$. in Differential Thermal Analysis shows gradual exothermic peak near $900^{\circ}C$. this results shows that roof tiles were made near 900~1000 near $1000^{\circ}C$ mean value of whole-rock Magnetic susceptibility rate. When performed comparative analysis using whole-rock Magnetic susceptibility rate average value, findspots provided no certain classification to arrange. Nonetheless low whole-rock Magnetic susceptibility rate 0.2~0.78(${\times}103$ SI unit) is found when roofing tile patterns are Pasangmun, Taesangmun, Eosangmun, Kyukjamun, Heongsunmun. Overall absorptivity is 14~21%. It is similar to 14~18% of roofing tile from Chosun Dynasty. There is only 1.4~2.5g/cm3 of roof tile sample specific gravity. The analysis finds no difference in specific gravity by findspots.

Rice Husk Ash (RHA) geopolymer paste activated by sodium aluminate were characterized by X-ray diffractogram (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersion X-Ray analysis (EDAX)and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Five series of RHA geopolymer specimens were prepared by varying the Si/Al ratio as 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5. The paper focuses on the correlation of microstructure with hardened state parameters like bulk density, apparent porosity, sorptivity, water absorption and compressive strength. XRD analysis peaks indicates quartz, cristobalite and gibbsite for raw RHA and new peaks corresponding to Zeolite A in geopolymer specimens. In general, SEM micrographs show interconnected pores and loosely packed geopolymer matrix except for specimens made with Si/Al of 2.0 which exhibited comparatively better matrix. Incorporation of Al from sodium aluminate were confirmed with the stretching and bending vibration of Si-O-Si and O-Si-O observations from the FTIR analysis of geopolymer specimen. The dense microstructure of SA2.0 correlate into better performance in terms of 28 days maximum compressive strength of 16.96 MPa and minimum for porosity, absorption and sorptivity among the specimens. However, due to the higher water demand to make the paste workable, the value of porosity, absorption and sorptivity were reportedly higher as compared with other geopolymer systems. Correlation regression equations were proposed to validate the interrelation between physical parameters and mechanical strength. RHA geopolymer shows comparatively lower compressive strength as compared to Fly ash geopolymer.
The asbestos contents in some representative building materials were analyzed using JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The changes in mineral composition during analysis process and problems in JIS method were also examined. XRD analysis of some representative domestic building materials used for roof, wall, ceiling, and floor indicates that slate have the highest asbestos content having 6.87~6.93% of chrysotile. Other building materials analyzed in this study also have 1.35~3.98% of chrysotile contents. The XRD analysis results of asbestos contents in some domestic building materials are presented in this study. This method is very effective for the asbestos content evaluation of building materials according to newly modified asbestos content regulation (Law of Industrial Safety and Health, 2007-26) that limits asbestos content less than 0.1% by Ministry of Employment and Labor. Small amount of tremolite as well as chrysotile were also observed in some samples. With consideration of crystal shape, contents and geological occurrence, it is considered that tremolite is an associated mineral of chrysotile and is not intentionally added. Complemental analyses with optical microscope and SEM/EDS are also necessary because XRD method cannot distinguish asbestiform from non-asbestiform. The XRD method applied in this study is very effective in the asbestos content analysis of building materials, specially building materials showing high asbestos concentration in residues due to the high loss rate with ashing and acid dissolution procedure.
This study was performed by chemical analysis and metallographic observation. Chemical properties were analized by ICP, XRD and SEM-EDS and slag structures were observed by microscope and SEM. Total Fe amounts in A, C area of slag can be observed $39\~45\%$ by chemical analysis results. It was average of acient times. CaO was $3\~8\%$. It's not plentiful but we think that was artificial. Ti was found in A area a little, and Ti, V were found in C area so much. The compounds, as if Fayalite, Wustite, Magnetite, Ilmenite, Pseudo-brookite, Ulvospinel, Forsterite, Fephroite, Olivine were observed in the result XRD. These structures were also observed in microscope and SEM image. Therefore, The furnance of A area usually used an iron mine, An Iron furnance of C area considered it which refined using a raw iron mine and a raw iron sand.
The purpose of this paper is to develop the alkali-activated concrete which uses 100% fly ash as a binder without any cement. The compressive strength of the mortar was examined depending on the chemical change in alkali-activator through SEM and SEM/EDS observations and the XRD analysis. It was found from the test that the higher molar concentration induced the greater effect on the initial strength, and that $Si^{4+}$ and $Al^{3+}$ were eluted relative to the compressive strength of mortar. In addition, it was confirmed that Al and Si were determined to be most influential ingredients on the microstructural development of the mortar, and that the different ingredient of the activator was almost no change in solidity from the XRD analysis.

The objective of the present study is to investigate how elevated temperature ranging from $100^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ as well as room temperature affects the variation of mechanical properties of high strength concrete ($over\;f_{ck}=60MPa\;grade$). In this experiment, specimens were exposed for a period of $2^{\circ}C/min$ to temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$$400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. Accordingly, the study investigated the fire resistance performance of high strength concrete mixed with composite fibers which composed with hybrid fibers and steel fibers. After cooling down to ambient temperature, the following basic mechanical properties were then evaluated and compared with reference values obtained prior to thermal exposure: (i) compressive strength in room temperature; (ii) residual compressive strength; (iii) Poisson's ratio; (iv) weight change; (v) SEM analysis & XRD analysis In addition, XRD and SEM Images analyses were performed to investigate chemical and physical characteristics of high strength concrete with composite fibers according to high temperature.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate crystalline silica contents in airborne respirable dusts from various manufacturing industries and to compare analytical ability of two different methods of quantifying crystalline silica, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourie transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). Various manufacturing industries with a history of having pneumoconiosis cases and also known to generate dusts containing crystalline silica were investigated. These industries include: ceramics, brick, concrete, and abrasive material etc. The personal respirable dust samples were collected using l0mm, Dorr-Oliver nylon cyclone equipped with 37mm, $5{\mu}m$ pore size. polyvinylchloride (PVC) filters as collection media. All samples were weighed before and after sampling and were pretreated according to the NIOSH sampling and analytical methods 7500, and 7602 for dust collection and quartz analysis. A total of 48 samples were collected from these industries. Initial analyses of these samples showed log-normal distributions for dust and quartz concentrations. Some results from ceramics and stone exceeded current Korean Occupational Exposure Limits. The average concentrations of personal respirable dust by cyclone were 0.43, 0.24, 0.26, 0.42, 0.53 and $0.29mg/m^3$ in ceramics, stone, concrete, glass, briquets, and others, respectively. A comparison of performance of two analytical methods for quantifying crystalline silica was performed using data from ceramics. The results showed that no significant difference was found between two methods for ceramics. The mean crystalline silica contents determined by XRD were 3.41 % of samples from briquets and 7.18 % from ceramics and were 2.58 % from concrete and 10.33 % from ceramics by FTIR. For crystalline silica analysis, two analytical techniques were highly correlated with $r^2=0.81$ from ceramics. Both cristobalite and tridymite were not detected by XRD and FTIR.
