  • Copper oxide thin films were synthesized by reactive radio frequency magnetron sputtering at different oxygen gas ratios. The chemical and physical properties of the thin films were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). XPS results revealed that the dominant oxidation states of Cu were $Cu^0$ and $Cu^+$ at 0% oxygen ratio. When the oxygen ratios increased above 5%, Cu was oxidized as CuO as detected by X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy and the $Cu(OH)_2$ phase was confirmed independent of the oxygen ratio. The valence band maxima were $1.19{\pm}0.09$ eV and an increase in the density of states was confirmed after formation of CuO. The thickness and roughness of copper oxide thin films decreased with increasing oxygen ratio. The crystallinity of the copper oxide films changed from cubic Cu through cubic $Cu_2O$ to monoclinic CuO with mean crystallite sizes of 8.8 nm (Cu) and 16.9 nm (CuO) at the 10% oxygen ratio level.

  • In this study, we carried out an investigation of the etch characteristics of TiO2 thin films and the selectivity of TiO2 to SiO2 in adaptive coupled C12/Ar plasma. The maximum etch rate of the TiO2 thin film was 136±5 nm/min at a gas mixing ratio of C12/Ar (75%:25%). The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed the efficient destruction of oxide bonds by the ion bombardment as well as the accumulation of low volatile reaction products on the etched surface.

  • Chemical kinetics affects Cu CMP results (removal rate, Non uniformity etc.) Because Cu is removed by chemical action. Key factors in chemical kinetics are process temperature and concentration of slurry components. In this study, Hydrogen peroxide and citric acid were selected as a oxidant and a complexing agent and Slurry were made by mixing this components. In order to study effects of Chemical Kinetics, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were performed on Cu sample after etching test as concentration of citric acid and slurry temperature. Finally Cu CMP was performed as same conditions.

  • The surfaces of sheets added with N-chloro-polyacrylamide (N-Cl-PAM) are analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to clarify the chemical bonding involved in the paper strength development induced by N-Cl-PAM. The comparison of the observed N1s chemical shift of the sheet with those of the paper strength additives and the model compound, 1-butyryl-3-propyl urea, illustrated the presence of covalent bonds of alkyl acyl urea and urethane on the fiber surfaces. Thus the formation of the covalent bonds by N-Cl-PAM themselves and by N-Cl-PAM with cellulose and hemicellulose may be an explanation for much higher effectiveness of N-Cl-PAM on the improvement of wet strength of paper than A-PAM.

  • We have studied magnetic and structural properties of ultrathin Ni films grown on PI(lII) surface using in situ surface magneto-optic Kerr effect and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was absent, and longitudinal Kerr signal was only detectable for Ni films thicker than 6 monolayers. Enhancement in longitudinal Kerr signal by 30% was achieved by post-annealing at temperatures below 800K, but upon annealing at 820K, surface alloy was formed. By using core-level binding-energy shifts, the composition was determined to be Ni 70 at. %.

  • The stainless steel 304 oxidized at $70^{\circ}C$ in 2.5M CrO3/5.0M H2SO4 solution and at $200^{\circ}C$ , $300^{\circ}C$, and $400^{\circ}C$ in the air are analyzed with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) to obtain depth composition profile of the surface region. It is confirmed that the surface region has a quite different composition from that of the bulk. This is due to a difference in the outward diffusion rates of the oxidized species in the surface region. The order of diffusion rates is Fe > Cr > Ni in the experimental temperature range. In spite of the inferior rate of diffusion, Cr is enriched in the surface when it is oxidized in the CrO3/H2SO4 solution. This is due to preferential dissolution of oxidized Fe.

  • The surfaces of $TiO_2$ and ZnO nanoparticles have been modified by gold (Au) nanoparticles by a reduction method in solution. Their interfacial electronic structures and optical absorptions have been studied by depth-profiling X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, respectively. Upon Au-modification, UV-vis absorption spectra reveal a broad surface plasmon peak at around 500 nm. For the as-prepared Au-modified $TiO_2$ and ZnO, the Au $4f_{7/2}$ XPS peaks exhibit at 83.7 and 83.9 eV, respectively. These are due to a charge transfer effect from the metal oxide support to the Au. For $TiO_2$, the larger binding energy shift from that (84.0 eV) of bulk Au could indicate that Au-modification site of $TiO_2$ is different from that of ZnO. On the basis of the XPS data with sputtering depth, we conclude that cationic (1+ and 3+) Au species, plausibly $Au(OH)_x$ (x = 1-3), commonly form mainly at the Au-$TiO_2$ and Au-ZnO interfaces. With $Ar^+$ ion sputtering, the oxidation state of Ti dramatically changes from 4+ to 3+ and 2+ while that (2+) of Zn shows no discernible change based on the binding energy position and the full-width at half maximum (FWHM).

  • We investigated the etching characteristics of YMnO$_3$ thin films in high-density plasma etching system. In this study, YMnO$_3$ thin films were etched with CF$_4$/Ar gas chemistries in inductively coupled plasma(ICP). Etch rates of YMnO$_3$ increased up to 20% CF$_4$ in CF$_4$/(CF$_4$+Ar), but decreased with furthermore increasing CF$_4$ in CF$_4$/(CF$_4$+Ar). In optical emission spectroscopy (OES) analysis, F radical and Ar* ions in plasma at various gas chemistries decreased with increasing CF$_4$ content. Chemical states of YMnO$_3$ films exposed in plasma were investigated with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). There is a chemical reaction between metal (Y, Mn) and F and metal-fluorides were removed effectively by Ar ion sputtering. YF$_{x}$, MnF$_{x}$ such as YF, YF$_2$, YF$_3$ and MnF$_3$ were detected using SIMS analysis. The etch slope is about 65$^{\circ}$ and cleasn surface. surface of the etched YMnO$_3$ thin films was investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). The etch profile was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).EM).

  • In this paper, we report the successful growth of crystalline carbon nitride films in Si(100) by a laser-electric discharge method. The laser ablation of the target leads to vapor plume plasma expending into the ambient nitrogen arc discharge area. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy(AES) were used to identify the binding structure and the content of the nitrogen species in the deposited films. The surface morphology of the films with a deposition time of 2 hours is studied using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to determine the structural crystalline parameters, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to analysis the grown films.

  • A highly facile and eco-friendly green synthesis of Annona squamosa (custard apple) leaf extract reduced graphene oxide (CRG) nanosheets was achieved by the reduction of graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared CRG was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. Removal of oxygen containing moieties from the GO was confirmed by UV-Vis, FT-IR and XPS spectroscopic data. The XRD and Raman data further confirmed the formation of the CRG. TEM images showed the sheet structure of the synthesized CRG. These results show that the phytochemicals present in custard apple leaf extract act as excellent reducing agents. The CRG showed good dispersion in water.
