  • Network coding is a promising technology that increases system throughput by reducing the number of packet transmissions from the source node to the destination node in a saturated traffic scenario. Nevertheless, some packets can suffer from end-to-end delay, because of a queuing delay in an intermediate node waiting for other packets to be encoded with exclusive or (XOR). In this paper, we analyze the delay according to packet arrival rate and propose two network coding schemes, iXOR (Intelligent XOR) and oXOR (Optimal XOR) with Markov Decision Process (MDP). They reduce the average delay, even under an unsaturated traffic load, through the Holding-${\chi}$ strategy. In particular, we are interested in the unsaturated network scenario. The unsaturated network is more practical because, in a real wireless network, nodes do not always have packets waiting to be sent. Through analysis and extensive simulations, we show that iXOR and oXOR are better than the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) without XOR (the general forwarding scheme) and XOR with DCF with respect to average delay as well as delivery ratio.

  • Network coding is a promising technology that increases the system throughput via reducing the number of transmission for a packet delivered from the source node to the destination node. Nevertheless, it suffers from the metrics of end-to-end delay. Network Coding scheme takes more processing delay which occurs as coding node encodes (XOR) a certain number of packets that relayed by the coding node, and more queuing delay which occurs as a packet waits for other packets to be encoded with. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the dependency of the queuing delay to the arrival rate of each packet. In addition, we analyze and compare the delay in DCF without XOR and DCF with XOR under dynamic traffic.

  • In this paper, en efficient broadcast scheme with acknowledged mode is proposed. Specifically, based on stochastic pattern of ACK/NACK across all users and index coding, adaptive coding scheme with XOR operation is used at the transmitter. At each receiver, packets are decoded using layered decoding method with already successfully decoded packets. From numerical results, proposed index coded broadcast scheme is shown to be more efficient than naive broadcast scheme in the sense of average total number of transmitted packets.

  • In satellite communication, transmission performance is degraded due to long propagation delay and relatively high data loss compared to terrestrial network. In this paper, We propose Hybrid TCP PEP scheme with XOR coding and Hybla TCP, which reduces the transmission performance degradation due to the transmission delay time. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the file transfer rate by more than 10% in the environment with high channel error rate. Therefore, Hybrid TCP, which is a mixture of XOR coding method and TCP Hybla, is considered to contribute to the improvement of transmission speed in satellite communication when applied to connection split PEP.

  • This paper proposes an efficient coding method of the depth-map which is different from the natural images. The depth-map are so smooth in both inner parts of the objects and background, but it has sharp edges on the object-boundaries like a cliff. In addition, when a depth-map block is decomposed into bit planes, the characteristic of perfect matching or inverted matching between bit planes often occurs on the object-boundaries. Therefore, the proposed depth-map coding scheme is designed to have the bit-plane unit coding method using the adaptive XOR method for efficiently coding the depth-map images on the object-boundary areas, as well as the conventional DCT-based coding scheme (for example, H.264/AVC) for efficiently coding the inside area images of the objects or the background depth-map images. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the average bit-rate savings as 11.8 % ~ 20.8% and the average PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) gains as 0.9 dB ~ 1.5 dB in comparison with the H.264/AVC coding scheme. And the proposed algorithm improves the average bit-rate savings as 7.7 % ~ 12.2 % and the average PSNR gains as 0.5 dB ~ 0.8 dB in comparison with the adaptive block-based depth-map coding scheme. It can be confirmed that the proposed method improves the subjective quality of synthesized image using the decoded depth-map in comparison with the H.264/AVC coding scheme. And the subjective quality of the proposed method was similar to the subjective quality of the adaptive block-based depth-map coding scheme.

  • We consider a time-division multiple-access relay channel (MARC), in which two source nodes (SNs) transmit data with different data rate to a destination node (DN) with the help of a relay node (RN) using network coding (NC). However, due to its asymmetric data rate, the RN cannot combine the received bits by XOR NC. In this paper, we compare with the problem of asymmetric data rates by using zero padding and hierarchical 16QAM.

  • The network coding mechanism has attracted much attention because of its advantage of enhanced network throughput which is a desirable characteristic especially in a multi-hop wireless network with limited link capacity such as the device-to-device (D2D) communication network of 5G. COPE proposes to use the XOR-based network coding in the two-hop wireless network topology. For multi-hop wireless networks, the Distributed Coding-Aware Routing (DCAR) mechanism was proposed, in which the coding conditions for two flows intersecting at an intermediate node are defined and the routing metric to improve the coding opportunity by preferring those routes with longer queues is designed. Because the routes with longer queues may increase the delay, DCAR is inefficient in delivering real-time multimedia traffic flows. In this paper, we propose a network coding-aware routing protocol for multi-hop wireless networks that enhances DCAR by considering traffic load distribution and link quality. From this, we can achieve higher network throughput and lower end-to-end delay at the same time for the proper delivery of time-sensitive data flow. The Qualnet-based simulation results show that our proposed scheme outperforms DCAR in terms of throughput and delay.

  • Finite field arithmetic is very important in the area of cryptographic applications and coding theory, and it is efficient to use normal bases in hardware implementation. Using the fact that $GF(2^{mk})$ having a type-I optimal normal basis becomes the extension field of $GF(2^m)$, we, in this paper, propose a new serial multiplier which reduce the critical XOR path delay of the best known Reyhani-Masoleh and Hasan's serial multiplier by 25% and the number of XOR gates of Kwon et al.'s multiplier by 2 based on the Reyhani-Masoleh and Hasan's serial multiplier for type-I optimal normal basis.

  • In this paper, we propose a copyright protection scheme for real-time streaming of HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) based realistic content. Previous research uses encryption and modular operation for copyright pre-protection and copyright post-protection, which causes delays in ultra high resolution video. The proposed scheme maximizes parallelism by using thread pool based DRM(Digital Rights Management) packaging with only HEVC's CABAC(Context Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) codec and GPU based high-speed bit operation(XOR), thus enabling real-time copyright protection. As a result of comparing this scheme with previous research at three resolutions, PSNR showed an average of 8 times higher performance, and the process speed showed an average of 18 times difference. In addition, as a result of comparing the robustness of the forensic mark, the filter and noise attack, which showed the largest and smallest difference, with a 27-fold difference in recompression attacks, showed an 8-fold difference.

  • In this paper, two digital video scrambling methods are proposed as simple means of the digital content protection techniques. One is inter block scrambling using motion vector, the other is intra block scrambling using intra prediction mode. The proposed inter block scrambling method distorts the original sequences by swapping horizontal and vertical components of motion vector. This method can be applied on most common video coding techniques such as MPEG-1, 2, 4, H.264, etc. The proposed intra block scrambling method distorts the original sequences by modifying intra prediction mode that is property of H.254 video coding technique. Both methods do not cause my bit rate increase after scrambling. Moreover, they have low complexity because they need only simple operation like XOR. Especially, the proposed intra block scrambling does not distort inter blocks directly. But inter blocks are distorted by error propagation effect as much as intra blocks. This paper introduces two new digital video scrambling method and verifies its effectiveness through simulation.
