  • $Ni_{1-x}Mg_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite system was studied by using X-ray diffraction and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The samples were prepared by ceramic sintering method with Mg content x. The X-ray diffraction patterns of samples show phase of cubic spinel structure. There are no remarkable changes of lattice constants in $Ni_{1-x}Mg_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite system. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra were consisted of two sets of six lines, respectively, corresponding to $Fe^{3+}$ at tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The magnetic hyperfine field of samples was decreased as increasing Mg contents x in both sites and it was shown Yafet-Kittel magnetic structure. $NiFe_2O_4$ was shown complete inverse spinel, but $NiFe_2O_4$ was shown partial inverse spinel which absorption area ratio (oct/tet) was 1.449 in $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum.

  • Endophytes ascertain a symbiotic relationship with plants as promoters of growth, defense mechanism etc. This study is a first report to screen the endophytic population in Waltheria indica, a tropical medicinal plant. 5 bacterial and 3 fungal strains in leaves, 3 bacterial and 1 yeast species in stems were differentiated morphologically and identified by biochemical and molecular methods. The phylogenetic tree of the isolated endophytes was constructed using MEGA X. Silver nanoparticles were biosynthesized from a rare endophytic bacterium Cupriavidus metallidurans isolated from the leaf of W. indica. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by UV-Visible spectrophotometer that evidenced a strong absorption band at 408.5 nm of UV-Visible range with crystalline nature and average particle size of 16.4 nm by Particle size analyzer. The Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectrum displayed the presence of various functional groups that stabilized the nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction peaks were conferred to face centered cubic structure. Transmission Electron Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope revealed the spherical-shaped, polycrystalline nature with the presence of elemental silver analyzed by Energy Dispersive of X-Ray spectrum. Selected area electron diffraction also confirmed the orientation of AgNPs at 111, 200, 220, 311 planes similar to X-ray diffraction analysis. The synthesized nanoparticles are evaluated for antimicrobial activity against 7 bacterial and 3 fungal pathogens. A good zone of inhibition was observed against pathogenic bacteria than fungal pathogens. Thus the study could hold a key aspect in drug discovery research and other pharmacological conducts of human clinical conditions.

  • In order to acquire digital x-ray images, developing radiography detectors have been recently conducted based on the DR (digital radiography) technology. The noise property of the radiography detector can be observed from measuring the NNPS (normalized noise power spectrum) using uniform exposure images. Here, the image difference of two images is used to remove the fixed pattern noise in measuring the detector NNPS. In this paper, two average images are first calculated using several images and then their difference is used to calculate an NNPS value. Here, the obtained NNPS value is usually lower than the true detector NNPS due to the average. Hence, a compensation constant, which is a function of the number of used images, is also proposed to compensate the NNPS value to obtain the true detector NNPS. Furthermore, another measurement method, in which the ratio of the average images is used, is proposed. Through NNPS measuring experiments using real x-ray images, it is observed that the proposed method can provide further accurate NNPS measurements.

  • The substituted yttrium iron garnet systems $Y_{ 3-x}$/Gd$_{x}$X$0.2_{0.2}$ $Fe_{4.8}$ $O _{12}$ (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spectroscopy and SQUID. The X-ray diffraction patterns at room temperature confirm the samples to have a single phase of the garnet structure over the whole composition range. The lattice constants of all the samples linearly change with increasing x due to the size of substituted ions in the dodecahedral sites. $Y_{3-x}$ $Gd_{x}$ X$Fe_{4.8}$ $In_{0.2}$ $O_{12}$ system which $Y_{3-x}$ ions are substituted with Gd$^{ 3+}$ ions, the Mossbauer spectrum consists of three Zeeman sextets at room temperature, one due to the $Fe^{3+}$ ions on the octahedral(a-) sites and the others due to the $Fe^{3+}$ ions on the tetrahedral(d-, d'-) sites, respectively. From the hysteresis loop measured by means of SQUID over the whole composition range, the saturation magnetization $M_{s}$ and magnetic moments $\mu_{ B}$ per unit cell have been obtained. The increment of Gd-ion content causes $M_{s}$ and $\mu_{B}$ decrease while the increment of In-ion content does not.

  • A target for a high-brightness microfocus x-ray tube, which is based on carbon nanotubes (CNT) as electron source, is designed. The x-ray tube has the following specifications: brightness of $1\times10^{11}phs/s.mm^2. mrad^2$, spot size $\~5{\mu}m$, and average x-ray energy of $20\~40 keV$. In order to meet the specifications, the design parameters of the target, such as configuration, material, thickness of the target as well as the required beam current, were optimized using computer code MCNPX. The design parameters were determined from the calculation of both x-ray spectrum and intensity distribution for a transmission type configuration. For the thin transmission type target to withstand vacuum pressure and localized thermal loading, the structural stability and temperature distribution were also considered. The material of the target was selected as molybdenum(Mo) and the optimized thickness was $7.2{\mu}m$ to be backed by $150{\mu}m$ beryllium (Be). In addition, the calculations revealed that the maximum temperature of the transmission target can be maintained within the limits of stable operation.

  • $Gd_{1-x}VO_4:{Eu_x}^{3+}$ red phosphors were synthesized with changing the concentration of $Eu^{3+}$ ion by using a solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, surface morphology, and photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation properties of the red phosphors were measured by using X-ray diffractometer, field emission-scanning electron microscopy, and florescence spectrometer, respectively. The XRD results showed that the main peak of all the phosphor powders occurs at (200) plane. As for the photoluminescence properties, the maximum excitation spectrum occurred at 306 nm due to the charge transfer band from ${VO_4}^{3-}$ to $Eu^{3+}$ ions and the maximum emission spectrum was the red luminescence peaking at 619 nm when the concentration of $Eu^{3+}$ ion was 0.10 mol.

  • We report on the development of transition edge sensors for x-ray detection. The sensor technology was based on the fabrication of a superconducting film on a thin membrane. A bilayer of a superconductor, Ti, and a noble metal, Au, was e-beam evaporated on a micromachined SiNx. Another Au layer was evaporated on the two side edges of the bilayer in order not to be affected by structural imperfections at the boundaries. With the method described in the present report, the superconducting transition temperature of the device was consistently achieved to near 80 mK with a sharp transition. The energy spectrum ueasured with the device provided 37 eV FWHM for 5.9 x-rays. We also discuss the design and fabrication considerations as well as the performance of the device in detail.

  • We present analysis results of the energy spectra of MCG-2-58-22 associated with occasional flares which appear in a long-term X-ray light curve. We measure an intrinsic power-law slope of this object to be ${\Gamma}=1.74{\pm}0.02$ in the energy range of ${\sim}1-5keV$ and find that this slope is little affected by flares. We confirm that there exists a broad excess emission above 5 keV to the power-law continuum. The excess emission is less variable compared with a flux variation of flare and tends to be relatively weak during flares. A soft X-ray spectrum is also found to change, implying the presence of a variable soft component. We discuss the implications of these spectral variations.

  • We analyzed 0.5-45 keV data of NGC 3227 observed by Suzaku six times between 2008 October 28 and December 2. The count-count plot between the 0.5-3 keV and 3-10 keV bands exhibits a clear break, separating the data into bright and faint phases. Applying the difference spectrum method and time-averaged spectral fits to the phase data, we found the presence of two kinds of variable primary X-rays, (1) a hard primary component with ${\Gamma}{\sim}1.7$ dominating in the faint phase and (2) a soft primary continuum with ${\Gamma}{\sim}2.4$ appearing in the bright phase, both affected by partial absorption. Considering their timing and spectral characteristics, component (1) is presumably identical to a Compton continuum in the low/hard state, while component (2) may correspond to the hard tail emission in the high/soft state, or compact-jet emission. In that case, an accretion ow onto the central super massive black hole in NGC 3227 can be interpreted to include the two different states.
