  • In this study, one-dimensional fiber-optic radiation sensor with an organic scintillator tip is fabricated to measure high energy X-ray beam profile of CLINAC. According to the energy and field size of X-ray, scintillating light signal from one-dimensional fiber-optic sensor is measured using a photodiode-amplifier system. This sensor has many advantages such as high resolution, real-time measurement and ease calibration over conventional ion chamber and film.

  • The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor were fabricated by funace at 1500 ℃ for 12 h using a solid state reaction. The XRD (X-ray diffraction_Panalytical X'Pert Pro) and FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscope) are measured to confirm the crystalline structure and surface morphology of the phosphor. The Tb3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 470~650 nm wavelength range due to transitions from 5D4 to 7Fj. Therefore, it shows the green region in the CIE chromaticity diagram under both UV and X-rays excitations. The Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 550~750 nm wavelength range because of 5Di to 7Fj. The emission is confirmed to be in the red region using the CIE chromaticity diagram. The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor shows the characteristic f-f transition with a long decay time, which is about several milliseconds. They have the high efficiency of light emission for X-ray because of their high effective Z number (Zeff = 58.5) and density. Therefore, they are very much promising phosphors for X-ray imaging application in medical fields.

  • Recently increased use of high energy x-ray in radiation therapy, so therapeutic efficiency of tumors that located deep part also increased. However, photoneutron is problem which is generated caused by photoneuclear reaction. Photoneutron is continually required management because of that is more harmful than photon. In this regard, the study utilizing simulation of the Monte Carlo method is actively progress about photoneutron but measure is deficient. So this study was analyzed the correlation between the measured photon and photoneutron by radiation measurement device. As a result, photons were reduced when distance is farther and field size is smaller. But photoneutron were increased when field size is smaller and increased to a certain distance then reduced.

  • The inclusion of air filled cavities in treatment fields creates a potential dosimetric problem due to the rebuildup phenomenon near the air-tissue interface using a simulated phantom, such as air gap, air cylinder, and air cavity, the amount of rebuldup along the various field sizes and air cavity dimensions was measured. The results are as follows. 1. As the field size becomes larger in comparison with the cavity size, or as the cavity size gets bigger when the field size is equal to the cavity size, rebuildup decreases. 2. When the distance between the phantom surface and the air cavity is less than 1.5cm, there is prominent rebuildup. And when the distance is more than 1.5cm, rebuildup is relatively constant, 3. The change according to the depth of the cavity is affected by the field size and the cavity size, rebuildup usually increases when the depth of the cavity increases. 4. It is suggested that tissue equivalent material should be applied on the skin to make tissue thickness over the air cavity more than 1.5cm and that the field size should include the air cavity with at least 1cm margin.

  • $La_{1-x}Ba_xMnO_3$ (x = 0.30, 0.35 and 0.40) samples have been prepared by solid-state reaction method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) study showed that all the samples crystallized in a rhombohedral structure with an R-3c space group. Variation of the magnetization as a function of the temperature and applied magnetic field was carried out. All the samples revealed ferromagnetic to paramagnetic (FM-PM) phase transition at the Curie temperature $T_C{\sim}342K$. The magnetic entropy change was also studied through examination of the measured magnetic isotherms M(H, T) near $T_C$. The magnetocaloric effect was calculated in terms of the isothermal magnetic entropy change. The maximum entropy change reaches a value of 1.192 J/kgK under a magnetic field change of 2.5T for the $La_{0.6}Ba_{0.4}MnO_3$ composition. The relative cooling power (RCP) is 79.31 J/kg for the same applied magnetic field.

  • The central beam characteristics of 6 MV X-ray from a Mevatron KD linear Accelerator are examin-depths The PDD (Percent Depth Dose) values and the TMR (Tissue Maximum Ratio) values are evaluated from measurement as a function of the depths and the field sizes. The calculated TMR values from the PDD are compared to those from measurement. The average differences between calculated TMR and measured one are within $1\%$ and we have concluded that calculated TMR values are acceptable for practical use.

  • In order to investigate electrochemical behavior and biocompatibility of Co-Cr dental alloy by electrochemical corrosion test and MTT assay, the xCo-25Cr-yW-zNi alloys were used in this study. Samples of Co-Cr-W-Ni alloys were manufactured using arc melting furnace. The microstructure of the alloys was examined by optical microscopy (OM), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), MTT assay, and corrosion test. Corrosion resistance increased slightly as cobalt (Co) content increased. And bioactivity was concerned with nickel (Ni) and tungsten (W). Biocompatibility of Co-Cr alloy depended on Ni and W contents.

  • The $(1-x)La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}MnO_3(LSMO)/xZnFe_2O_4$(ZFO) (x = 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.06 and 0.09) composites were prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction method. We investigated the structural properties, magnetic properties and electrical transport properties of (1-x)LSMO/xZFO composites using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field-cooled dc magnetization and magnetoresistance (MR) measurements. The XRD and SEM results indicate that LSMO and ZFO coexist in the composites and the ZFO mostly segregates at the grain boundaries of LSMO, which agreed well with the results of the magnetic measurements. The resistivity of the samples increased by the increase of the ZFO doping level. A clear metal-to-insulator (M-I) transition was observed at 360K in pure LSMO. The introduction of ZFO further downshifted the transition temperature (350K-160K) while the transition disappeared in the sample (x = 0.09) and it presented insulating/semiconducting behavior in the measured temperature range (100K to 400K). The MR was measured in the presence of the 10kOe field. Compared with pure LSMO, the enhancement of low-field magnetoresistance (LFMR) was observed in the composites. It was clearly observed that the magnetoresistance effect of x = 0.03 was enhanced at room temperature range. These phenomena can be explained using the double-exchange (DE) mechanism, the grain boundary effect and the intrinsic transport properties together.

  • There are two distinct approaches to improving the quality of protein NMR structures during refinement: all-atom force fields and accumulated knowledge-assisted methods that include Rosetta. Mao et al. reported that, for 40 proteins, Rosetta increased the accuracies of their NMR-determined structures with respect to the X-ray crystal structures (Mao et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 136, 1893 (2014)). In this study, we calculated 32 structures of those studied by Mao et al. using all-atom force field and implicit solvent model, and we compared the results with those obtained from Rosetta. For a single protein, using only the experimental NOE-derived distances and backbone torsion angle restraints, 20 of the lowest energy structures were extracted as an ensemble from 100 generated structures. Restrained simulated annealing by molecular dynamics simulation searched conformational spaces with a total time step of 1-ns. The use of GPU-accelerated AMBER code allowed the calculations to be completed in hours using a single GPU computer-even for proteins larger than 20 kDa. Remarkably, statistical analyses indicated that the structures determined in this way showed overall higher accuracies to their X-ray structures compared to those refined by Rosetta (p-value < 0.01). Our data demonstrate the capability of sophisticated atomistic force fields in refining NMR structures, particularly when they are coupled with the latest GPU-based calculations. The straightforwardness of the protocol allows its use to be extended to all NMR structures.
