  • The examination using diagnostic x-ray equipment is one of the most useful diagnostic equipment for identifying information in the human body in diagnostic radiology. For this reason, the number of examinations has recently increased a lot. Increasing the number of examinations will accelerate the aging of the device. In addition, this makes them aware of the importance of quality control for the diagnostic x-ray device. Particularly, in a diagnostic x-ray device, quality control refers to an act of always maintaining a certain level of image quality by identifying and correcting all problems that may lead to reduction of the diagnosis area in advance. Therefore, this study summarizes and reports general information about quality control in examinations using diagnostic x-ray equipment.

  • There are 4 types of equipment in diagnostic radiography. These are single phase, three phase, inverter type and condenser type X-ray generators. It is very confusing to make an adequate exposure factor and to know the usage of different type of X-ray generators. In this experiment, I explored a comparative study of outputs in 4 different type of X-ray units. I expect that this experiment could be helpful for manufacturer to make both the X-ray equipment better, In terms of Ideal exposure factors, thereby reducing the patient dose. Experimental results are as follow : 1) X-ray output The ratio of X-ray output of single, three phase and inverter type of X-ray generator was 1 : 1.6 : 2 without absorber and 1 : 2 : 2.6 with 20 mm aluminium absorber. 2) Beam quality The X-ray beam quality of single phase generator was proved to be softer than three phase and inverter type of generators by 0.4 mmAL and 0.55 mmAl HVL respectively. 3) Reproducibility Linearity of X-ray output Retroducibility of X-ray output met the regulation below CV 0.05 and linearity also met the regulation below 0.1 in 4 types of diagnostic X-ray generators. 4) The comparison of incident dose Three phase X-ray generator was 20% higher than two other X-ray generators in radiation dose to make same film density.

  • The National Health Insurance Act, the Industrial Health Act and the School Health Act require chest radiography at least once a year. In chest radiographic examination, most group examinations use indirect X-ray primarily aiming at diagnosing diseases and enhancing people's health. This study purposed to minimize radiation exposure dose by comparing it between direct and indirect chest X-ray studies. According to the result of comparing and analyzing radiation exposure dose, the average incident dose and penetrating dose were 0.929μGy and 0.179μGy respectively in direct chest X-ray and 6.807μGy and 1.337μGy in indirect chest X-ray In order to minimize radiation exposure dose at direct and indirect chest X-ray, indirect X-ray should be excluded from group examination if possible. Moreover, it is necessary to control the quality of equipment (Q/A & Q/C) systematically and to avoid using unqualified equipment in order to reduce radiation exposure dose.

  • By using the transmission anode x-ray tube developed to apply to the hand-held XRF equipment, we carried out XRF experiment and evaluated the influences of the x-ray tube on XRF spectra. XRF data, which is measured using the W-target and Rh-target tube, were good agreements with the known results. FWHM of Fe $K_{\alpha}$-line measured by W-target tube with the 35 kV-tube voltage and the $40{\mu}A$-tube current was 180 eV. This result reveals that our XRF equipment using the transmission anode x-ray tube is enough for a qualitative analysis of materials. By comparison XRF data with the integrated intensity of x-ray tube, it was confirmed that Rh-target tube is better than W-target tube for application to the hand-held XRF equipment.

  • Purpose: Recently, the performance of the X-ray tube was very much improved by the power generation of the technology. However, the overload of equipment is occurred by the increment of the equipment operating time according to the increment of the examination number of cases. The X-ray dose can change by heat occurrence of the X-ray tube due to this. Moreover, the change of the bone mineral density value is possible to occur. Therefore, We tries to whether the change of the bone mineral density value of each equipment according to the difference of the examination number of cases and operating time occur or not. Materials and Methods: The BMD value was measured by the Aluminum Spine Phantom and the European Spine Phantom in each equipment, in order to find out about the difference of the time general classification bone mineral density value by using the Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. And after scanning each phantom by using X-ray dose meter (Unfors Mult-O-Meter), a dose was measured by the same condition. As to, an average and standard deviation were found and the change of each equipment much BMD value was compared and it evaluated. Results: $Mean{\pm}SD$ of each equipment by using the Aluminum Spine Phantom, A equipment was $1.174{\pm}0.002$, $1.171{\pm}0.005$, $1.173{\pm}0.005$, B equipment was $1.186{\pm}0.003$, $1.187{\pm}0.003$, $1.185{\pm}0.003$, C equipment was $1.180{\pm}0.003$, $1.182{\pm}0.004$, $1.183{\pm}0.002$, D equipment was $1.188{\pm}0.004$, $1.185{\pm}0.003$, $1.185{\pm}0.004$. By using the European Spine Phantom, A equipment was $1.143{\pm}0.006$, $1.153{\pm}0.009$, $1.161{\pm}0.003$, B equipment was $1.134{\pm}0.004$, $1.13{\pm}0.008$, $1.127{\pm}0.015$, C equipment was $1.143{\pm}0.006$, $1.134{\pm}0.01$, $1.133{\pm}0.006$, D equipment was $1.14{\pm}0.001$, $1.122{\pm}0.002$, $1.131{\pm}0.008$, altogether included in the normal range. Conclusion: There was no significant change of the BMD value of using a phantom by time zones. Therefore, if the quality control is made to use the extent management method of the equipment for beginning in the present application, the reliability of the BMD equipment will be able to be enhanced.

  • Quality management of an x-ray unit drastically differs according to the type of establishment of medical institutions. Many primary medical institutions have it, but they do not pay much attention to quality management. In the study, Gyeongbuk area has been divided into four zones from January 4, 2010 to September 3, 2010, and four places were designated by city. Among medical institutions located at a total of 16 sites, the target was 8 places with X-ray emission equipment 10 years or more in use as well as 8 places with X-ray emission equipment less than 10 years in use. The 5 essential items of quality control were tested. In the test that checked for equipment it was found that sites with X-ray emission equipment 10 years or more in use didn't have ground connection (6.25%) while all of them passed the current leak test. In the exposure dose reproducibility test 4 sites with X-ray emission equipment 10 years or more in use (25%) and 1 site with X-ray emission equipment less than 10 years in use didn't pass the test. In the KVp accuracy test 5 sites with X-ray emission equipment 10 years or more in use (31.25%) and 2 sites with X-ray emission equipment less than 10 years in use (12.5%) didn't pass the test. In the tube current and tube current amount test 3 sites with X-ray emission equipment 10 years or more in use (18.75%) and 1 site with less than 10 years in use (6.25%) didn't pass the test. According to the findings of the present research, quality control at medical institutions with X-ray equipment 10 years or more in use was poorer than medical institutions with X-ray equipment less than 10 years in use. In this regard, administrative and technical measures need to be taken as soon as possible. In addition, owners of medical clinics or unit managers need to raise awareness, and it is necessary to revise a regular test cycle every year or every two years if they have old equipment or if the equipment is not used on a frequent basis. And it is also important to provide regular educational programs for quality management.

  • X-ray equipment, which is frequently used in radiology and treatment, is the most common and most used equipment in clinical practice. Equipment must provide accurate information to patients through continuous quality control. In case of manual quality control measurement, reproducibility may be poor and there may be a problem with reliability of evaluation results. In this study, an automated program was developed and attempted to measure how much the central ray between the focus of the X-ray tube and the variable aperture of the diagnostic X-ray generator used in clinical practice coincides. As a result of the experiment, it succeeded in calculating the coordinates of the two center points, and the distance between the two points was calculated in pixels and applied to the judgment and the automatic judgment value for whether the center line coincidence is within the normal angle or the abnormal angle is presented. The results of this study are considered to be very helpful in the quality control of the X-ray apparatus.
