  • Owing to the high specific strength and stiffness of composite materials, they are extensively used in mechanical systems and in vehicle industries. However, most mechanical structures experience repeated load and fatigue. Therefore, it is important to perform fatigue analysis of fiber-reinforced composites. The properties of composite laminates vary depending upon the stacking sequence and stacking direction. Fatigue damage of composite laminates occurs according to the following sequence: matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. In this study, fatigue tests were performed for damage analysis. Fatigue damages, which have to be considered in fatigue analysis, are determined by using the stiffness values calculated from hysteresis loops, and the obtained fatigue damage curve is examined using Mao's equation and Abdelal's equation.

  • Deodorization of natural zeolites have been improved not only for polar but also for non-polar pollutants by sucessive ion exchanges of H and Ag ions starting from Korean natural zeolite with high adsorption capacity. The modified zeolites with $TiO_2$ coating on the surface revealed high deodorization and photocatalytic decomposition effects. Further modification was made with $10{\sim}20nm$ silica nano particles coating on the surface, the resulting composite particles of $SiO_2/TiO_2/modified$ natural zeolite revealed not only comparable deodorization but also better durability and resisatnce to color change compared to the $TiO_2$/modified natural zeolite without much compensation of photocatalytic decomposition effect, when the composite particles were exposed to the polypropylene non-woven fiber coated with organic binder. It is expected for the composite particle prepared here to be used as indoor building materials for indoor air quality control.

  • The mechanical properties and failure behaviour of carbon/phenolic composites were inverstigated by tension and compression. Carbon/phenolic composites were fabricated by infiltration of matrix into 8 harness satin woven fabric of PAN-based carbon fibers. The tensile and compressive tests were performed at 25℃ under air atmosphere and, at 400℃ and 700℃ under N₂ atmosphere. The tensile strengths of carbon/phenolic composites in with-laminar/0° warp direction were about 10 times higher than those in with-laminar/45° warp direction, which was analyzed due to a change of fracture mode from fiber pull-out by shear to tensile fracture of fibers. The fracture of carbon/phenolic composites in with-laminar/45° direction was analyzed due to delamination by buckling. Tensile and compressive strength of carbon/phenolic composites decreased to about 50% at 400℃, and to about 10% at 700℃ compared to that at room temperature. The main reason for the decrease of tensile or compressive strength with increasing temperature was analyzed due to a reduction of bond strength between fibers and matrix resulting from thermal degradation of phenolic resin.

  • An empirical review on silk fabrics of the Chosen period showed that they varied in kind and design according to their uses. Thus the purpose of this study is to classify the fabrics into temple and excavated fabrics according to their uses and collected places and then to examine characteristics of each type. Concerning fabrics collected in temples. satin was most used, followed by twill, tabby, multiply, leno and gauze and clossing fabrics in order. Tabby and silk fabrics used Ju(紬) as their main material. Cho( ) was much more used in fabrics collected in temples than in excavated ones. This indicate that Cho( ), more luxurious than Ju(紬), had divine applications such as covering Buddha s bones of temples. Brilliant, colorful multiply fabrics using goldern and color threads had high effects of ornamenting altar covers, umbrellas, surplices and palanquins. Fabrics held in temples adapted composite designs, in which more than two shapes were used, rather than single ones. Single designs employed plant shapes in most cases. followed by treasures pattern, geometrical, cloud and animal shapes in order. Most composite designs used a combination of animal and plant shapes, followed by plant and geometry, treasures pattern and plant, cloud and animal, and animal, treasures pattern and plant in order. Few excavated fabrics used animal designs while fabrics collected in temples were often designed with shapes of propitious animals such as dragon. Treasures pattern. representing a good omen of Buddhism, was often used sing1y or sometimes compositely with another design.nother design.

  • Today fiber composite materials are routinely used in such wide applications as ships automobiles aircraft space vehi-cles containers sporting goods and appliances. The current knowledge of machining glass fiber reinforced polyester com-posites unfortunately is inadequate for its optimum utilization in many applications. Therefore This paper deals with drilling characteristic of glass fiber reinforced polyester composites. In the drilling of glass fiber reinforced polyester the quality of the cut surfaces is strongly dependent on the drilling parameters. drilling tests were carried out on glass fiber reinforced polyester using standard HSS tools. The material containing random chopped strand fibers and woven roving was fabricated by hand lay-up The entrance and exit surface of the holes was examined. The cutting force was also mea-sured to analyze the drilling characteristics,.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), one of lightweight materials, is the fiber structure using carbon fiber. It is the composite material that has the characteristics of carbon and plastic. As for the fiber structure, it has the great strength due to fiber direction. CFRP for woven type is used mostly as such a CFRP with lightweight. Woven type is more stable when compared with unidirectional type. On the other hand, woven type is highly priced. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the fiber structure of unidirectional CFRP. In this study, as the stacking angle [0/X/-X/0], X is the variable. This is unidirectional CFRP in which the angle phase of X has been reversed and stacked. By using such a unidirectional CFRP, the analysis model which had a crack at the center as the form of panel with the thickness of 2 mm was used. On analysis, the load is applied on the upper and lower parts being connected with a pin. The damage in the area near center crack was investigated. As for the analysis model, 3D surface model was designed by using CATIA. For CFRP stacking, the stacking direction was determined by using ACP in ANSYS program and the analysis model with two stacks was made. Afterwards, the structural analysis was carried out.

  • The headliner was made of polyurethane(PU) and glass fiber(GF) composite materials are widely used as a sound insulation material. A large amount of waste materials occurs as a by-product in the headliner manufacturing process. In order to efficiently reuse the headliner waste materials, separation process of the components are very necessary. According to the results of thermal analysis, weight loss showed increase in the order polyurethane foam> non-foaming polyurethane> non-woven fabric> 1st layer> glass fiber in the range of up to $400^{\circ}C$. Analysis of the DSC characteristics, HDPE, LLDPE, PP, and Master Batch by adding additives the wasted scrap. As a result, except for the PP, there was no exothermic transition due to the crystallization.

  • Two dimensional transition metal carbides and/or nitrides, known as MXenes, are a promising electrode material in energy storage due to their excellent electrical conductivity, outstanding electrochemical performance, and abundant functional groups on the surface. Use of $Ti_3C_2$ as electrode material has significantly enhanced electrochemical performance by providing more chemically active interfaces, short ion-diffusion lengths, and improved charge transport kinetics. Here, we reports the efficient method to synthesize $Ti_3C_2$ from MAX phase, and opens new avenues for developing MXene based electrode materials for Lithium-Ion batteries.

  • In recent years, the HP-CRTM method, which has the ability to produce carbon fiber-reinforce plastic composites at high speeds, has come into the spotlight in the automotive parts industry, which demands high productivity. Multi-axial carbon fabric, an intermediate material used in this HP-CRTM molding process, consists of layered fibers without crimp, which makes it better in terms of tensile and shear strength than the original woven fabrics. The NCF (non-crimp fabric) can form the layers of the carbon fiber, which have different longitudinal and lateral directions, and ${\pm}{\theta}$ degrees, depending on the product's properties. In this research, preforms were made with carbon fibers of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ and $0/90^{\circ}$, which were lamination structures under seven different conditions, in order to create the optimal laminated structure for automobile reinforcement center floor tunnels. Carbon fiber composites were created using each of the seven differently laminated preforms, and polyurethane was used as the base material. The specimens were manufactured in accordance with the ASTM D3039 standards, and the effect of the NCF lamination structure on the mechanical properties was confirmed by a tensile test.

  • In this study, the failure modes by ballistic impacts were studied both for a neat Kevlar woven fabric and a Kevlar liquid armor impregnated with shear thickening fluid (STF) containing silica particles. These two materials showed quite different failure modes macroscopically in ballistic impacts tests used by Cal.22 FSP and 9mm FMJ bullet. Yarn pull-out for the neat Kevlar woven fabric and yarn fracture occurred partially through all plies from 1st ply to last one for the STF-Kevlar are an important energy absorption mechanisms. The results observed by S.E.M showed commonly fiber damage which are torn skin in the longitudinal fiber direction, fiber split axially and fiber fracture for two materials. The reasons why STF-kevlar liquid armor material exhibits excellent ballistic performance are as follow: firstly the increased friction forces between yarn-yarn and fabric-fabric covered with silica particles and secondary the evolution of shear thickening phenomenmon resulting in suppression of yarn mobility.
