This study analyzes the effects of women's labour force participation and work-family reconciliation support on life-cycle fertility in Korea. The analysis is based on the longitudinal data from Korean Labour and Income Panel Study (KLIPS), which include the available information on life-cycle fertility and employment history. Employing a dynamic model of fertility, we estimated the life-cycle fertility of all the 15-49 years old women considered in this study by using a duration model. The major results of this study were as follows: First, women's labour force participation had a negative effect on the first birth, second birth, and all births (transition to births starting at different parities). Women's employment tended to lengthen the interval between births. Second, the availability of maternal leave had a positive effect on the first birth and all births for working women. Providing maternal leave to working women decreased the opportunity cost of childbearing and in turn, reduced the interbirth interval of women. However, the availability of parental leave had no significant effect on the births of working women. Third, the financial support for childcare had a positive effect on the first birth and all births. The economic support for childcare led to the reduction in the interbirth interval of women by increasing the probability of births. The use of a childcare center for the first child, which substitutes for the time that women needed to take care of their children, classified as time-intensive consumption goods, did not have any effect on the second birth. Fourth, the part-time employment of women had a positive effect on the second birth. A flexible working time schedule tended to decrease the interval between the first and the second births.

Recently family policy and social policy have focused on the balance between the work and family of working parents. The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of the work-life balance of married working women. For this purpose the eight married working women who care for 1 or more pre-school child(ren) were interviewed. The questionnaire used was consisted of 4 themes : 1) child care, 2) working situation, 3) the work-life balance and 4) the need to improve related policies. Through the interviews and data analysis we found the following : 1) Accessibility to educarecenter was considered the most important factor for working moms when they choose an educarecenter. In order to improve accessibility of educarecenters we have to install more educarecenters with various level. 2) All respondents look maternity leave and they evaluated that other services were very weak in terms of quality, usefulness and accessibility. 3) Many childcare services aid in creating work and family balance, however they are not effective. Therefore future policies should focus on providing more options for working women for appropriate services according to childcare needs, working conditions and preferences.
This research developed maternity wear designed with a focus on the essential functions necessary for working women and adaptable to their body changes during pregnancy. Through Martin's anthropometry for 201 pregnant women, the size specifications for maternity wear was determined and a dress form was proposed, in order to provide the manufacturer with reference data and a prototype to verify their products' fit and suitability. From a monthly analysis on the body measurements of pregnant women, significant monthly differences and after pregnancy were found in weight, chest girth, bust girth, under bust girth, waist girth, and hip girth. Dress form was designed based on the average body measurements of women in their 6th to 10th month of pregnancy. The standard dimensions in the 8th month were 90cm (chest), 94cm (bust), 86cm (under bust), 97cm(waist: most protruding part on the side), and 99cm (hip). Compared with Japan's MAT-9 (for nine months), chest girth was the same, while the Korean waist girth and hip girth were larger by 2cm and 3cm, respectively. The woven fabric blouse was evaluated as having the best appearance, while the knitted fabric one was judged as being more comfortable it terms of functionality. For the pants, the design details of the lowered waist and curved waist belt were more functional. The tailored jacket was the best design for working women in terms of both looks and functionality. To summarize, maternity wear for working women, unlike general maternity clothes, should be designed with consideration for the wearer's somatotype and activity. Elastic materials were appropriate for functionality and dealing with physical changes. With the increasing of working pregnant women, such trials are expected to continue in this research area in order to develop functional maternity wear with multi-purposes such as breast-feeding, wearability after delivery and shielding from microwave.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly impacted various facets of individuals' lives, including perceptions, leisure activities, work-family balance, and overall life satisfaction. This study aims to explore the intricate relationships among changes in perceptions due to COVID-19, leisure activity satisfaction, work-family conflict, and life satisfaction of married working women. Employing path analysis, we examined a dataset of 1,973 married working women drawn from the 8th Korean Women and Families Panel Survey. The findings indicate that while changes in perception associated with COVID-19 did not directly affect leisure activity satisfaction and life satisfaction, they did significantly decrease work-family conflict, indirectly leading to heightened life satisfaction. Additionally, leisure activity satisfaction emerged as a mitigating factor for work-family conflict, contributing to enhanced life satisfaction. These results emphasize the importance of understanding the interplay between external factors, individual perceptions, and well-being, offering insights for devising tailored strategies. The study holds significance in guiding policies and interventions to enhance the quality of life for married working women in the context of evolving pandemic challenges.
This study explored a typology (or time allocation), investigated personal and work characteristic differences among time allocation types, and identified determinants of time allocation types of married working women with a preschool child. The data source for this research was the 2014 Time Use Survey conducted by Statistics Korea. We analyzed 368 time diaries (184 for weekdays and 184 for weekends) using frequency, mean, cluster analysis, chisquare, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Duncan's test, and multinomial logistic analysis. The results of this research are as follows. Time allocation of married working women with a preschool child was classified into three different types of 'work-centered,' 'work-family balanced,' and 'family-centered.' The work-centered type accounted for 14.7% of total respondents, and compared with other types, this type of people spent more time working, and less time doing house-work, caring for family, and having leisure. The work-family balanced type represents more than half of the total, and spend more time working on weekdays and house-working, having leisure on weekends. The family-centered type represents 28.8%, and spends most of the time doing house-work and caring for family on both weekdays and weekends. Occupation, employment status, monthly income, and weekly hours of work were different for each type. Occupation, employment status, perception of lack of time, health condition, and weekly hours of work were identified as determinants for each type.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of different working days of married working men and women on their time use on the weekend. The data collected by The National Statistical Office in 1999 was used. Among the total sample of 17,000 families, 7580 samples who are married, employed, and more than 20 yews old are selected for the analysis. This study has resulted in two major findings. (1)the working days affect on the time use on the weekend. The pattern is somewhat different by sex. The women spend more time in leisure and houseworks on the weekend as the working days decrease. However, the men do not spend more time on doing houseworks as the working days decrease. The time spent on leisure and physiologic time is increased both men and women as the change of workweek from the biweekly five-day to the weekly five-day: (2)if the five-day workweek and more flexible hours are introduced, they will contribute to Improve the quality of life of workers. This fact shows positive view at the last stage of legislation of the five-day workweek .
Education effect on women's participation in the labor market has been known to be small in Korea. Then, the meaning of women's education as human capital needs to be questioned. Both the increasing desire for working among women and the criticism to under-utilization of women's education in the labor market reflect that women's education is surely perceived as human capital. However, women's education dose not seem to function well as human capital in the labor market. According to previous studies, it is pointed out that educational effect on women's participation in the labor market is weak but the effect on earnings is evident. There were few attempts to evaluate economic returns to women's education over the life-cycle analyzing both working and non-working women. Considering that the economic behaviors of women in nonagricultural sector have changed little until the mid-1980s, I tried to examine the meaning of education as human capital over the women's life cycle using cross - sectional data. This study shows that the educational effect on women's participation in the labor market does not exist and the working period is very short. Although the educational effect on earnings among working women is clearly shown, it tends to limited to younger women. Despite the educational effect on earnings among younger women, the meaning of education as human capital among Korean women does not hold well due to short working period and the low participation of the educated in the labor market.
Purpose: To investigate subjective symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders in women workers Method: From February to April, 2006, 292 women workers working in 16 companies were surveyed using KOSHA CODE (H-30-2003). Result: Of the workers, 84.0% had at least one musculoskeletal disorder. The mean score of the severity of musculoskeletal disorder symptoms was 7.41 out of 25. As for the prevalence rate by body part, shoulder was the most common and severe body part of musculoskeletal disorders, and significant differences were shown in neck, shoulder, and lower limb according to the type of working. The severity of married workers was significantly higher than that of unmarried ones. Significant difference was shown in the severity of disorders by the type of working and in body parts according to the type of working. Conclusion: The self-reported symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders were very frequent in women workers, but the severity of the symptoms was relatively low, suggesting the early symptoms of disorders. Specifically, given the highly frequent self-reported symptoms in the shoulder part found in married women workers, intensive prevention is recommended. Furthermore, an ergonomic aspect should be concerned to consider physical characteristics of women workers.
This study aims to examine the effect of discrimination experience on job satisfaction among working women with disabilities, focusing on meditating effect of self-esteem. To this end, the data from the 8th year of the employment panel of disabled population surveyed by the EDI; Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled was used for the study. The data collected from 549 working women of disabilities from EDI was analysed by using the path analysis. The findings are as follows: first, discrimination experience of working women with disabilities had a significantly negative effect of their job satisfaction. Second, self-esteem presented the mediating effect between discrimination experience and job satisfaction. Based on the results, this study proposed various programs to increase job satisfaction by enhancing self-esteem in situations where the experience of discrimination among women with disabilities is high and suggested practical implications to increase job satisfaction of working women with disabilities.
The purpose of this study is to examine the work-family conflict and work-family spillover of married working women. For this purpose, this study estimate the level of work-family conflict and spillover and investigate the related variables to then The results are as follows. The level of work-family conflict is ordinary. The level of role conflict as mother is highest and that of role conflict as wife is lowest. The level of work-family spillover is also ordinary and positive work-family spillover and family-work spillover are higher than negative ones. Work-family conflict of married working women have a significant difference according to woman's age, age of first child, number of children, household work time, career years, and support of family. Negative family-work spillover have similar trend with wok-family conflict in affecting variables. This study is meaningful in analyse the work-family spillover of married working women as well as work-family conflict to reveal the positive aspect with negative aspect of work-family. It is needed to eliminate the conditions which cause conflict to married working women and emphasize the positive effect of work-family.
