  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the current status and needs in neonatal emergency training for nursing students in Korea and to obtain preliminary information to develop a simulation based educational program on neonatal emergency care for nursing students. Methods: Structured questionnaires were distributed to five hospitals and ten nursing schools during April and May, 2012. Data were collected from 59 nurses who worked in the nursery or Neonatal Intensive Care Units and 13 nursing educators who had specialized in pediatric nursing. Results: Most nurses (86.4%) reported that they had experienced an emergency situation with newborns. Most nursing educators (84.6%) claimed that more intensive training with newborns is needed for nursing students. In particular, training in neonatal resuscitation (72.2%), respiratory distress (59.7%), and neonatal seizures (18.1%) were highly recommended as simulation based training for nursing students. Conclusion: A significant need for neonatal emergency educational programs was found. More efforts should be made to provide nursing students with knowledge and skills for working with neonates. The findings of this survey will ultimately provide a basis for developing a simulation based educational program on neonatal emergency care for nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is to quantitatively examine the perception of fire officials for college students who need to prepare and choose fire officials, and to identify and present practical and specific improvement measures along with raising awareness of fire officials. In order to achieve the basic purpose of the study set above, we tried to find out whether there are differences in the general level of awareness of fire officials, the working environment of fire officials, and group welfare according to the gender, major, grade, family or relative of college students. The subjects of the study were 600 students enrolled in a four-year university in the Department of Firefighting, and 513 valid questionnaires were used. The survey contents were divided into three categories of perceptions of firefighting officials and consisted of 20 questions, and the frequency and percentage were calculated and compared using the SPSS/win (Ver10.0) program. As a result, first, compensation for awareness improvement and the expansion of safety facilities and equipment are necessary. Second, it is necessary to improve working conditions, such as guaranteeing appropriate working hours and raising and replenishing wages. Third, the results of the establishment of a national fire hospital and the need for psychological counseling were derived. Based on these results, we suggest that national-level laws and systems, and administrative and legislative support should be provided for firefighters.

  • This research examines the effects of parental attachment as a family-related variable, and depressive mood as an individual variable on anger expression style among Korean college students. Anger expression style was divided into three domains including anger-in, anger-out, and anger-control. The data were collected from 437 college student respondents using a self-administered questionnaire. The results demonstrated that male students displayed higher levels of anger-control compared to females, but no gender-related difference in the level of anger-in and anger-out. In addition, anger-control was positively associated with parental attachment. However, anger control in terms of anger-in and anger-out were negatively related to parental attachment and positively linked to depression. Additionally, parental attachment demonstrated a negative correlation with depressive mood. Multiple regression results indicated that after controlling for the effect of gender, anger-control expression style was influenced by parental attachment but not by depressive mood. In addition, anger-out and anger-in expression styles were influenced by depressive mood but not by parental attachment. Finally, implications for educators and clinicians working with college students and their family are discussed along with some suggestions for future research.

All subjects in this study were 341 secondary school mathematics teachers in pusan city and Kyungsangnam-do were surveyed by the questionnaire of Likert type to which the respondents' seven background elements were added. Main results this study were as follows : 1. The overall attitude of the measured secondary school mathematics teachers tends to be positive but a little indifferent. Also attitude toward the students was a little more positive than the other attitudes. 2. There were significant differences (1%) among the sub-level areas except three of them. (r = 0.17~0.60) 3. There were significant differences (5%) by the result of Multiple comparison test among the schools in learning and teaching. So the teachers working at middle schools and general high schools were more positive than those working at vocational high schools. 4. • The purpose of this study was to define the effects of the finger temperature response according to the daily life of college student. For this study, 31 healthy female college students were taken as a subject group. To define the effects of the finger temperature response, housing style, subjective thermal sensations during daily life in the house and domestic working time were surveyed. The finger temperature response items were measured. The results were as follows. Strong, normal and weak group members were divided according to their cold resistance index(RI) 3, 8, 20 people, repectively. Subjective thermal sensations during daily life in the house affects the cold resistance index(p<.01). The cold resistance index(RI) got higher as domestic working time was increased(p<.05, F-value=3.927). The percentage wearing protective gloves during domestic work in the weak group was higher than the normal or strong groups. Subjective sensations during daily life and domestic working time effected the local cold tolerance, living in a comfortable environment continuously can weaken one's cold tolerance.
