The Toughening Mechanism of the Rubber-Modified Epoxy Resin (고무 변성 에폭시의 고인화 메카니즘)

  • In this work, we investigate the toughening mechanism of the rubber-modified epoxy resin. The fracture toughness($K_{IC}$) is measured using CT specimens for three kinds of rubber-modified epoxy resin with different rubber content. The damage zone and rubber particles around a crack tip of a damaged specimen just before fracture are observed by a polarization microscope and an atomic force microscope(AFM). Both the fracture energy($G_{IC}$) and the size of damage zone increase with the rubber content below l5wt%. The size of the rubber particles can be qualitatively correlated with the $G_{IC}$ and the size of damage zone. The cavitation of the rubber particles inside the damage zone is observed, which is expected to be main toughening mechanism by rubber particles. the stress which causes the cavitation of rubber particles is estimated by the Dugdale model.

  • To reveal localized plastic deformation zones in a tough pitch copper, the etching characteristics of a copper sample have been examined. The etching was carried out on a sample surface using an etchant consisting of 25 ml nitric acid solution and 75 ml water. To clarify the plastic deformation zone, the sample deformed plastically was heated to between $250^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$ before the etching process. This is due to a change of the microstructure and crystal orientation in the plastic deformation zone producing recrystallized small grains. In this case, the plastically deformed zone is severely etched, whereas the undeformed zone is only slightly etched. Identification of the details of the deformation zone from the etching is further discussed.

  • Mathematical formulation of the zone conditional two-fluid model is established to consider flame-generated turbulence in premixed turbulent combustion. The conditional statistics of major flow variables are investigated to understand the mechanism of flame generated turbulence. The flow field in burned zone shows substantially increased turbulent kinetic energy, which is highly anisotropic due to reaction kinematics across thin flamelets. The transverse component of rms velocities in burned zone become larger than axial component in the core of turbulent flame brush. The major source or sink terms of turbulent kinetic energy are the interfacial transfer by the mean reaction rate and the work terms by fluctuating pressure and velocity on a flame surface.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a unit plan focusing on space zone for children, based on analysis of grown-up children's housing needs. Adult children means age of 20 to 30 that live with their parents in this study. According to survey, Most of adult children think they need space zone for their life and the most needed space was room for work, hobby or entertainment, and walk-in-closet in order. As a result of survey, we suggest a floor plan and 3 type plan of space zone for grown-up children.

Cyclic test for beam-to-column abnormal joints in steel moment-resisting frames

  • Six specimens are tested to investigate the cyclic behavior of beam-to-column abnormal joints in steel moment-resisting frames, which are designed according to the principle of strong-member and weak-panel zone. Key parameters include the axial compression ratio of column and the section depth ratio of beams. Experimental results indicate that four types of failure patterns occurred during the loading process. The $P-{\Delta}$ hysteretic loops are stable and plentiful, but have different changing tendency at the positive and negative direction in the later of loading process due to mechanical behaviors of specimens. The ultimate strength tends to increase with the decrease of the section depth ratio of beams, but it is not apparent relationship to the axial compression ratio of column, which is less than 0.5. The top panel zone has good deformation capacity and the shear rotation can reach to 0.04 rad. The top panel zone and the bottom panel zone don't work as a whole. Based on the experimental results, the equation for shear strength of the abnormal joint panel zone is established by considering the restriction of the bottom panel zone to the top panel zone, which is suitable for the abnormal joint of H-shaped or box column and beams with different depths.

Prediction of Effect Zone for Marine Organisms Using Distance Attenuation Equations for Oceanic Noise (수중소음 거리감쇠 특성식을 이용한 해양생물 피해영향범위 예측)

  • There are insufficient data to consider the effect zone for the marine life of coastal fisheries, because no standard has been defined for the sound level of marine life. In this study, equations for distance attenuation were used to determine the effect zone for oceanic noises. A reference noise level was divided into 4 parts to consider the characteristics of the fishes, and the effect zone of each reference noise level was determined. To increase the reliability of the effect scope, approximately 100 repetitions of blasting work split into several parts by the boring depth, the sound level of the source caused by an increase in weight, and the effect zone were calculated using the prediction equation. According to the prediction, the maximum distance of the effect zone was 4.92 km.

The Proper Length of Transition Area for Work Zones on Urban Freeways (도시고속도로 공사구간의 적정 완화구간 길이 산정)

  • Due to the characteristics of urban freeways such as heavy traffic and high speed, work zone on urban freeways causes the increase of not only the likelihood of crash occurrence but also traffic congestion caused by lane drop, lane change, acceleration/deceleration, and etc. This paper aims to determine the proper length of transition area that satisfies two criteria, mobility and safety, to make the operation of work zone more efficient. For the analysis, three different scenarios were developed by the number of lanes and the proper length of transition area were determined by changing the length from 100m to 500m in 100m increments. The results showed that the proper length of transition area for 3- and 4-lane freeways is 300m, whereas the proper length of 2-lane freeways is 200m. The results indicated that the different length of transition area based on the number of lanes is more desirable and efficient.

  • 최근 작업자 숙소 및 이송용 외에 작업용으로 사용 가능한 Barge선의 일종인 Accommodation Work Barge 선의 건조량이 증가 추세인 바 현재 중국에서 건조 중인 해당 선박의 HVAC & Refrigeration system에 대하여 정리하였다. 본 시스템은 R404A Direct expansion 냉각방식 (직접팽창방식)이 적용되었으며 HVAC system 중 Air conditioning 부분에 대해서는 선박의 각 Deck 기준으로 Zoning 하여 개별적인 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit를 구성하였으며 (각 unit의 용량은 필요용량의 100%), 냉동 창고의 Refrigeration system은 해당 격실 (육고, 어고, 야채고)에 각각 Unit cooler를 설치하고, Condensing unit를 기계실에 설치하였다. 장비는 전체 용량 100%에 대하여 항시 운전하는 100% 용량의 장비와 비상시에 운전하는 100% 용량의 예비 장비로 구성된다. 냉동 창고에 인접한 Dry provision store는 냉동 창고와는 별개로 중앙 공조기로부터의 냉각 공기를 이용하여 Spot cooling하였다. 본 System의 구성에 대한 장점 및 단점은 아래와 같다. 1. Air conditioning system이 각 Zone에 대하여 구성되므로 각 Zone에 대하여 제어가 가능하다. 2. Air con. 실에 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit가 설치되므로 냉매 배관의 길이가 짧다. 3. Air con. 실에 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit가 설치되므로 실내의 Maintenance space 상에 여유가 없다.
