The respondents were asked to complete the self-administered questionnaires, and the responses of 536 working wives were used for the final analysis. basically Cronbach's α to the reliability of major variables, frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation, pearson's correlation coefficients, and LISREL 7 program were performed to test the research model. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. The frequency of work-family conflict was affected by the flexibility of work time and wives' income. 2. The severity of wok-family conflict was directly influenced by the frequency of the conflict, the flexibility of work-time, and wives' education level. 3. The variables influencing the degree of socialization of housework were found to be the frequency and the severity of work-family conflict, wives' education, and the degree of husband's participation in housework. 4. • This study aimed to examine the sexual discrimination in the labor market. For this purpose, this study compared the work conditions, perception of sexual discrimination in the work place and job satisfaction by sex, and showed some effects of the independent variables on the two dependent variables; the perception of sexual discrimination in the work place and job satisfaction. The data were from KLFI(1995)'s National data and two OLS (Ordinary Least Square) Regression models were used. The results of this study were as follows. There were significant differences in the working conditions between two sex groups. The perception of sexual discrimination in the work place was a little low and the difference by sex was not found. The variables related to the work were more important to predict the perception of sexual discrimination in the work place rather than the general characteristics of the sample. The male workers were more satisfied with their work than the female workers. The satisfaction of their work was significantly different by the variables related to the work.

  • Background: Nursing home resident care is an ongoing topic of public discussion, and there is great interest in improving the quality of resident care. This study investigated the association between nursing home employees' job satisfaction and residents' satisfaction with care and medical outcomes. Methods: Employee and resident satisfaction were measured by questionnaire in 175 skilled nursing facilities in the eastern United States from 2005 to 2009. Facility-level data on residents' pressure ulcers, medically unexplained weight loss, and falls were obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Long-Term Care Minimum Data Set. The association between employee satisfaction and resident satisfaction was examined with multiple and multilevel linear regression. Associations between employee satisfaction and the rates of pressure ulcers, weight loss, and falls were examined with simple and multilevel Poisson regression. Results: A 1-point increase in overall employee satisfaction was associated with an increase of 17.4 points (scale 0-100) in the satisfaction of residents and family members (p < 0.0001) and a 19% decrease in the incidence of resident falls, weight loss, and pressure ulcers combined (p < 0.0001), after adjusting for staffing ratio and percentage of resident-days paid by Medicaid. Conclusion: Job satisfaction of nursing home employees is associated with lower rates of resident injuries and higher resident satisfaction with care. A supportive work environment may help increase quality of care in the nation's nursing homes.

  • The study examined work and family life of married women employed in a manufacturing industry. Data were gathered from the use of face-to-face interview method from a sample of 230 married working women. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) Most of the respondents found the work repetitive and unappealing, with the double burden of a paid work and housework. Thus, it is necessary for the government to implement social policies for married working women, such as establishment of various child care centers, part-time jobs, and dissemination of egalitarian sex-role attitudes. (2) More than half of the respondents were born in rural areas and immigrated to the urban sectors, forming a nuclear family structure. Most of these women were married with love, but some of them could not have a marriage ceremony because of the economic reasons. Thus, it may be necessary to increase the service centers to offer a free marital ceremony. (3) About 30% of the respondents answered they left their preschool aged children unattended, after dismissing from a kindergarden on a private institution. It was shown that working women, even though they were in charge of child-rearing, did not have an effective mechanism to control or protect their children while they were away from home. Most of them frequently used material compensations from their children in order to make up their absence at home. (4) It was found that the strategy for working women to decrease a dual-role conflict is to make a hierachy on the work they to do and to do only basic housework for everyday life and to do the rest of work on a off-day.
