This study compared the nutritional quality of Korean adults's consumption of lunch prepared at home, commercial places, and institutions. The one day food intake data collected via 24-hour recall in the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Survey were analyzed. Individuals with 19-64 years of age were selected (n = 5,756). Sampling weights in the Survey were used to generate nationally representative estimates. Lunch was categorized into three groups according to the place where the lunch was prepared. home, commercial places, and institutions such as schools and work places. Comparison among the three groups was made for 19-39 years old men (n = 1,387) and women (n =1,572) and 40-64 years old men (n = 1,364) and women (1,433), respectively. The lunch prepared away from home contained more calories. The lunch prepared commercially was higher in calories percentages from fat than that prepared either at home or at institutions. Across the age and gender groups, lunch prepared at home contribute a high level of sodium intake. Among individuals with 40-64 years of age, but not those with 19-39 years of age, lunch prepared commercially was as sodium dense as that prepared at home. Among individuals with 19-39 years of age, the sodium density of lunch prepared commercially was about the same as that prepared at institutional food service of which the menus were planned by dieticians. Such differences in nutritional quality among meals prepared at home, commercial places, and institutions should be considered and applied for the content development of nutrition education and policy.
Gender differences in the seperation of emplo-yment from home and commuting patterns of the Seoul Area are examined in this paper. Throughout the analysis, it is found that there exist a substantial gender variation in comm-uting rates. Even though the regional variation of commuting rates of male workers is very small, the female workers' regional variation of commuting rates is substantial. Especially, the area around the traditional central place of Kangbuk, the area near the Youngdungpo and Kuro where manufacturing and retailing activities are concentrated, and the area where low-income families are concentrated show high rate of female commuting. In contrast, the traditional residential area, especially the high-income area of Kangnam, shows lower rate of female commuting. Generally, female workers tend to work closer to home than male workers. Accordingly, the job search range of female workers is smaller than that of mle workers. But the areal unit of job search range of female workers is wider at least than Dong. The fact that female workers' job search area is smaller than male workers' implies that the job opportunity around the home location could have more impacts on female workers' job search process than male workers' job search process. There is a substantial difference in commuting behavior between male and female workers. In general, male workers commute longer, use more expensive transportation mode, and pay higher transportation cost in comparision with female workers. These gender differences in commuting behavior could be resulted not only form the gender difference in the seperation of employment form work, but also form the gender difference in the social status in both work place and home.
This study aims to discuss what changes Korean clothing companies and manufacturers have undergone with production facilities moving abroad due to offshore outsourcing and examine what conditions the clothing manufacturers are facing and how the clothing companies recognize those manufacturers. For these purposes, in-depth interviews were conducted with 24 firms with annual production capacity of more than 200,000 pieces among clothing brands for the domestic market, clothing exporters and promotion agencies. Those interviewed firms were the companies who were found to produce more than 200,000 pieces of clothing per year, and the interview-based survey was conducted from December 18, 2008 to January 30, 2009. The key findings from this study are as follows; first, a high percentage of interviewed firms were producing only a small number of items in Korea with a large part of their production line transferred abroad or outsourcing all of their production abroad only with their headquarters in Korea. Second, many were employing contractors rather than their own factories. Third, when asked about the wage levels of clothing manufacturers, many of the clothing companies gave responses such as: 'They are just our contractor, so we respect their decision,' 'We don't know because it's none of our business,' or 'We don't know at all.' Fourth, when asked about the work environment of clothing manufacturers, the clothing companies gave responses such as: 'We know in part,' 'To our knowledge, they conform to the Labor Standards Law,' or 'We don't know at all.' Fifth, the production line of clothing manufacturers featured straight-line systems, specialization, pairing and compounding/mixing. Sixth, it was found that clothing companies had interest in mass customization but their preparations were not satisfactory.
The present study identified the effects of parents' work-family conflict on their and partners' co-parenting quality, as well as the mediating roles of co-parenting quality and children's executive function difficulties in linking parents' work-family conflict to their children's school adjustment. This study used data from 387 dual-earner parents and their first-grade elementary school children, who participated in the Panel Study on Korean Children. An actor-partner interdependence and mediation model analysis using structural equation modeling revealed the following findings: first, the actor and partner effects of parents' work-family conflict on co-parenting quality were significant for both fathers and mothers. Second, the effect of the fathers' work-family conflict on their co-parenting quality was found to be greater than that of the mothers' work-family conflict on the fathers' co-parenting quality. Third, fathers' and mothers' work-family conflict, respectively, exerted an indirect effect on their children's school adjustment through the serial mediation by the mothers' co-parenting quality and children's executive function difficulties, whereas the direct effects of fathers' and mothers' work-family conflict on children's school adjustment were not supported. Finally, this study suggests that co-parenting quality and children's executive function should be considered to facilitate children's school adjustment in the parent education of dual-earner families with first-grade elementary school children, and that continuous policy efforts for dual-earner parents' work-family balance are needed.
In a rapidly changing Korean society, the role of home economics in ideological education and practical professionalism is faced to be reset. In this article the author reviews home economics and career opportunities. the following issues were discussed in detail : 1. Home Economics and Occupation ; a) As professionals in the field of home economics, job applicants must carry their message in person to potential employers. Employers must be taught that persons with home economics degrees have the capabilities and qualifications to fill a variety of positions. b) In may of 1977, Vocational Education Coalition was established by American Home economics association (AHEA), American Vocational Association, and Home Economics Education association This coalition defined the vocational education as occupation of homemaking and paid employment in home economics occupations for women and men. 2. Home Economics in business: Twelve percent of the total membership of the AHEA is affiliated with the home economics in business section. A professional management consultant, Dr. strain's viewpoint and corning Glass Work's case about business value in the home economics were summarized; a) Why a business employs a home economist. b) Why a business does not employ a home economist. c) Enhancing the home economist's value. d) Home economist's roles in corning Glass works. 3. Creating a Career: a) Mrs. Maineri's story. b) Family financial counselors. c) Home economist and displaced homemaker. d) Job opportunities in international services. Since the role of home economics in Korea has had little perception in professionalism, the following issues require immediate and serious attention to enhance career opportunities for home economists: Employers and government's recognition of home economist's value, Home economist's attitude to enhance their value, Fair employment and sex discrimination, Curricula adjustment, and Support from women's organization for employment opportunities, fair treatment, top jobs, etc.
The purpose of this study is to examine the styles of street fashion in youth sub-culture which has the leading power of 1990's Korean fashion flow. This topic has been explored in documentary studies about the youth sub-culture and the background of street fashion. Then, it also continued to classify street fashion styles in order to grasp the meaning as a young fashion. The results of this study are as follows. Street fashio of Korean youth are composed of four styles. ; The first is a hip-hop style. The hip-hop of Korea is started by 'Taiji Boys' and their representative apperances are the big-baggy pants, the reversed cap, the thrown backpack. The second is a reggae style. It is formed by the singer 'Kim Gun Mo'. It features the primary color and the use of ethnic fabrics. The third is a kitch style. The kitch is definitely represented by the old, the childish and the satire appearances. It came up with the rock band 'pipiband'. The forth is a sporty style. It comes from 'basketball' and 'skateboarding' which the young people prefer. Its designs are applied from the back-number of players, the names of the teams, the stripes of active-feeling. Based on this study, I designed cloths with 3 concepts to present a new design direction of Street Fashion. Work 1, 「JOY-RIDE」 represented the freedom and the release which are shown by pop music and dance. Work 2, 「GAMMA ENERGY」 represented the dynamic energy through sports games. Work 3, 「AROUND THE CORNER」 represented the form of street including comers, walls, roads etc.

Purpose: This study was conducted to explore research trends on hospital nurses' happiness. Methods: Studies published from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2020 were searched. At the first search, 1,898 articles were extracted from academic databases. Twenty-eight articles were used in the systematic review, and 20 included meta-analysis. Results: There were 38 variables explored in relation to nurses' happiness. The variables with the highest meta-analysis value were resilience, positive psychological capabilities, quality of nursing work life, and perceived stress on nursing performance measurement. Among the areas classified based on the nurses' happiness theoretical framework, personal factors (r=.60) and work environment factors (r=.51) showed high meta-correlation values. Conclusion: The relationship between the hospital nurses' happiness and work-related factor in various dimensions has been confirmed. Considering variables related to hospital nurses' happiness in the future, various programs at the individual level and organizational level should be developed.
Researchers have largely overlooked the direct effects of household responsibil-ities on earnings in stead focusing attention the effect of woman's employment on the division of household labor or on family life. Given that a substantial proportion of married women already work outside the home and their numbers are likely to be increae to some extent those concerned with the well-being of employed-married women and of their households may focus their attention on how best to provide good policy to manage woman's dual roles. The purposes of the study are as follows; 1) To find out factors which affect women's housework time. 2) To examine the relationship between housework and market work. Data are obtained from 259 households with employed-married women living in Seoul. The results of this study are as follows: 1) women's wages are reduced by time spent on housework. Women's housework time is insignificantly related to women's wages. 2) women's occupation statues is signific ntly positively related to their wages. 3)women's age and other family income are generally negatively related to their housework time,. The results of this study indicate that housework has a direct effect on wages by reducing the amount of energy and efforts available for market work lowering economic status of women.
The 52-hour workweek policy in Korea is a system that limits the maximum working hours per week to 52 hours including holiday work, which has been treated separately from overtime work during a week. Although this policy is designed to improve the quality of life and create jobs, it may also reduce the income of some workers. In general, it can be assumed that reduced working hours increase consumption at home. This study analyzed the effect of the 52-hour work policy on meat consumption patterns with the ordered logit model. Major factors considered in this study include working hours, income, and consumption frequency. It distinguished domestic and workplace consumption. The results show that the policy has had an impact on meat consumption patterns both at home and at work. If there is no change in income and only the working hours decrease, meat consumption in households increases. On the other hand, if both income and working hours decrease, household meat consumption decreases. Moreover, reduced working hours decrease the frequency of office happy hour and meat consumption in the workplace. However, the 52-hour workweek policy applies only to workers working more than 52 hours per week; thus, it is difficult to determine the overall effect of the policy on national meat consumption patterns.
The present study investigated counseling services and work conditions perceived by counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers. Questionnaire survey by mail was used to collect data from 32 counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers. Major findings of this study were as follows. First, many counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers perceived work load of counseling services heavily though they thought counseling work attractive and they would keep on working. Second, many counselors had a positive view of work conditions as a workplace but not a few of them complained about physical work conditions including poor facilities like lack of counseling room space in Centers. In addition to this, many suggestions were proposed to improve the counseling services and work conditions perceived by counselors in Healthy Family Support Centers.
