  • In Bangkok, Thailand, there is an increasing concern for ground subsidence with the rapid urbanization. Given the presence of flood vulnerability due to the flat low-lying topography and proximity to the river delta, it is particularly significant to monitor deformation that can potentially augment flood hazards. In this paper, we have applied persistent scatterer interferometric synthetic aperture radar (PSInSAR) technique to investigate subsidence in Bangkok with the use of Sentinel-1 acquisitions spanning from June 2018 to October 2021. The vertical displacement velocity obtained from both ascending and descending orbits revealed regional-scale subsidence at rates up to 30 mm/yr. In addition, ongoing subsidence was observed in the suburb areas with the localized vertical subsidence exceeding 80 mm. The areas are primarily industrial and agricultural sectors, thus, the ground subsidence detected is probably caused by groundwater withdrawal. However, further work is needed to diagnose the trends of aquifer resources.

  • Brucellosis is one of the zoonoses, and it is a disease that is almost eliminated in South Korea. This disease is also known as a representative disease of one health. We would like to introduce brucellosis found by one health in this study. One Health means an approach in which multiple sectors communicate and work together to achieve better public health outcomes. The Gyeongbuk Agricultural Safety and Health Center established a cooperation system between a Veterinary Service Laboratory and a Public Health Center, and found a case of human brucellosis in a farm with cattle brucellosis. Through this case, to be effective control of zoonoses as above case, epidemiological investigation for cattle and human should be concurrently conducted. And we once again recognized the need for multi-sectoral cooperation in prevention and management of zoonoses.

  • With the proliferation of artificial intelligence technology, it is becoming important to obtain, store, and utilize scientific data in research and science sectors. A number of methods for extracting meaningful objects such as graphs and tables from research articles have been proposed to eventually obtain scientific data. Existing extraction methods using heuristic approaches are hardly applicable to electronic documents having heterogeneous manuscript formats because they are designed to work properly for some targeted manuscripts. This paper proposes a prototype of an object extraction system which exploits a recent deep-learning technology so as to overcome the inflexibility of the heuristic approaches. We implemented our trained model, based on the Faster R-CNN algorithm, using the Google TensorFlow Object Detection API and also composed an annotated data set from 100 research articles for training and evaluation. Finally, a performance evaluation shows that the proposed system outperforms a comparator adopting heuristic approaches by 5.2%.

  • Natural disasters destroy decades of human effort and investments, thereby placing new demands on society for reconstruction and rehabilitation. In most case, the natural phenomena triggering the disasters are beyond human control. In order to solve the problems that the information resources can not be shared among disaster management sectors and their work is hard to be coordinated in city, an idea of application of ubiquitous sense network and ICT technology to model the architecture of the disaster prevention system based on the analysis of characteristics of disasters. The proposed algorithm simulated that it is possible to locate the terminal by linking the direction angle and the estimated position that can be confirmed at the time of stopping, even if the movement direction of the terminal does not move in a certain direction with only a smaller number of mobile base stations. We also confirmed that the proposed algorithms analyzed through simulation are more efficient than existing algorithms.

  • Electronic learning (e-learning) empowers the higher education in providing sustainable instruction during the infrequent circumstance when the wide-spreading disastrous challenge of the COVID-19 results in the closure of various sectors in the society. During this time, e-learning serves the levels of the education sector such as higher education well by delivering and receiving materials from distance with respect to movement restrictions imposed by the government, for example the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia. In this qualitative survey, the existing e-learning challenges and the recommended solutions to the problems from the senior lecturers' perspectives were collected through an online open-ended questionnaire. A number of five senior lecturers out of eight at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) answered the questionnaire. The UTM has been capable of providing e-learning courses for all of its lecturers and students during the closure of higher education institutions owing to the pernicious health conditions stemmed from the crisis of the COVID-19. The major existing challenges found in the e-learning program at the UTM and the suggested solutions to address them are listed and the main themes are illustrated in the word cloud format using the NVivo software. In the end, the conclusion is paragraphed and the future work is proposed. Overall, the purpose of this study is to address the e-learning challenges and to prepare a list of recommendations that can serve as solutions from the standpoint of the UTM senior lecturers during the MCO in Malaysia.

  • One of the major problems in fish production is that parasite-induced episodes of disease can result in significant impacts to the health of stock, mortalities and, economical losses. Seabreams are economically important fish in both the capture fishery and aquaculture sectors in Oman and represent potential species for aquaculture. The current study set out to investigate infection of polyopisthocotylean monogeneans on the gills of wild goldlined seabream, Rhabdosargus sarba, caught from Musairah region in Oman. The prevalence, mean intensity and abundance of polyopisthocotyleans on 145 fish was found to be 52.41%, 5.65 and 3.04, respectively. Three species of microcotylid parasite were isolated, one being Atrispinum acarne while the remaining two species require further study to identify them. There was no significant difference in the infection rate between host sex, however, parasite burdens were higher on larger sized fish (p<0.05) and were found to favour the first gill arch (p< 0.05). The study found that the sample of Rhabdosargus sarba landed in the waters around Musairah are heavily infected, with a predominantly immature population of microcotylids. Further work is required to better understand the potential risk each species poses to the health of its host before a decision is made on the suitability of new candidate fish species for commercial aquaculture.

  • Like most developed countries, South Korea is experiencing a severe lack of seafarers. Because young people's demands for a high quality of life has led them to seek shore-based careers. The wage difference between seafaring and shore-based careers has been decreasing gradually, however South Korea's unique Boarding Service Reserve System Policy has helped recruit and retain young sailors and, since 2017, the government has focused on creating new jobs and stabilizing the status of irregular workers in both private and public sectors. It specifically established the Economic, Social & Labor Council to carefully analyze seafarers' employment stability, which previously had been overlooked in the country. This research used the Binary Logit Model (BLM) to analyze the determinants of seafarers' employment stability in both permanent and non-permanent positions. We found that seafarers' employment stability correlated highly with their education level. This means that seafarers who graduated from the above mentioned two maritime universities would have more job stablity than those who graduated from maritime high schools or general universities. Other independent variables, such as the shipping company, vessel, hip management companies, work assignment, rank, and license had no significant impact on employment stability.

  • The banking sector is one of the most important sectors in Pakistan's struggling economy. Recent studies have recommended that suitable methods can be applied to predict bankruptcy. In this context, this work analyzes Pakistan's banking sector's financial status through the five-factor Altman Z-score model, which determines the probability of bankruptcy for an organization. Banking data has been collected through the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in the period 2013-2017. The Z-score assessment criteria is defined as: Z> 2.99 - "safe" zone; Z> 1.8 Z>2.98- "grey" zone; and Z <1.8 - "distress" zone. Results show good predictions for the local banking industry, while most foreign Pakistani banks were found bankrupt with the Z-score below 1.1. One of the financial risks investors face when investing in any company is the risk of bankruptcy. One of the most used models for predicting financial distress for any company is Altman's Z-score model. On the other hand, the Z-score analysis suggests that all banking establishments are not bankrupt because they have sufficient ability to control bankruptcy. At the same time, foreign banks failed financially and would not be able to be sustained in the future because they do not have the ability to pay the short-term and long-term debt.

  • With increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, accelerating cloud adoption, and the adoption of remote and hybrid work environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional security model, in which many businesses implicitly trust everything within their boundaries, is changing without boundaries, allowing data and users The concept of zero trust is getting more and more attention as the fact that it is not suitable for today's increasingly decentralized environment has been highlighted. Zero Trust is a cyber security model on the premise that 'no one trusts'. In principle, there is no safe area or user in the entire system, and internal users are also verified. is a way As telecommuting becomes commonplace due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and existing cyber security measures are facing limitations, Zero Trust technology is drawing more attention. Accordingly, it is expected that the Korean government will also check the status of acceptability of the domestic public and private sectors and tasks that need improvement when introducing Zero Trust with reference to the NIST standard. In this paper, the basic principles, philosophy, and considerations of Zero Trust and Zero Trust are explained, and practical basic measures to strengthen security by combining Zero Trust technology are presented.

  • In order to improve productivity, reduce costs, and improve decision-making efficiency, which are one of the main contents of the digital transformation promotion goal, many companies are promoting the introduction of various IT for digital transformation. Information technology (IT) is a key means of determining competitiveness, and the IT adoption worldwide is increasing every year. The financial industry is also actively introducing huge amounts of IT every year to generate profits, improve work efficiency, and secure a strategic competitive advantage. Compared to some studies on the IT adoption in the public and corporate sectors, empirical studies that reflect the characteristics of the financial industry are insufficient. In this study, the purpose of this study was to derive factors affecting the IT adoption in the financial industry for the promotion of digital transformation, and to analyze weights and priorities. By revealing through data analysis that there is a difference in the relative priorities of factors in the financial IT adoption for each group, it can be used as a reference model for which factors should be considered prior to IT adoption from the perspective of each group. It will be meaningful in that it exists.
