Plastic Forming Characteristics of AZ3l Mg Alloy in Warm Backward Extrusion (온간 후방 압출공정에서 AZ31 Mg 합금의 성형 특성)

  • Bulk plastic forming characteristics were studied for the magnesium alloy, AZ31 in warm backward extrusion. Effects of process conditions such as extrusion ratio, forming temperature, and punching speed were investigated respectively. Variation of microstructure induced by the warm backward extrusion process was observed. Microstructure of the work piece showed evidences of recrystallization under the experiment conditions. It is estimated that in specific punch speed region fast stroke accelerates recrystllization and reduces the forming load.

  • In this piece of work, carbon nanotubes motion equations are framed by Kelvin's method. Employment of the Kelvin's method procedure gives birth to the tube frequency equation. It is also exhibited that the effect of frequencies is investigated by varying the different index of polynomial function. By using volume fraction for power law index, the fundamental natural frequency spectra for two forms of single-walled carbon nanotubes are calculated. The influence of frequencies against length-to-diameter ratios with varying power law index are investigated in detail for these tubes. Throughout the computation, it is observed that the frequency behavior for the boundary conditions follow as; clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported and these frequency curves are higher than that of clamped-free curves. Computer software MATLAB is utilized for the frequencies of single-walled carbon nanotubes.

  • This study provides the useful actual data instead of the experience data using in industrial fields. Especially, values of each components of cutting force are effective in the rake angle, setting angle and cutting area. Many researches have been made on the work piece materials, kinds of bite materials, rake angle, nose radius and depth of cut, but a few on the bite setting angle. In order to select optimal cutting speed, it was summarized the following results are achieved; A chieved that an affect of cutting resistance on the setting angle is a little under giving experimental conditions and therefore a worker can be choose the value of it randomly.

  • Five-axis laser cutting has great advantages when it is applied to 3-dimensional machining requiring high cutting quality. For developing 5-axis CNC laser cutting systems, however, many problems such as rotating a laser head or a working table, 5-axis servo-control mechanism, tool path generation and post processing, and collision avoidance between a laser head and a work-piece should be solved. In this paper, we deal with developing a dedicated CAM system based on UG-NX3 for 5-axis laser cutting machine. Two essential modules such as post-processor and cutting motion simulation was developed. The developed system was applied to cutting curve defined on 3-D workpiece in order to show the validity of the proposed methods.

  • Alumina, a typical ceramic material used for semiconductors and display parts, is the subject of research and development efforts for mineral material processing. Alumina is extremely difficult to process since it is brittleness to either fine ceramics material. We have studied the shape of diamond particles and their use in machinability for alumina processing. Our study was carried out under various processing conditions, including cutting speed, table speed, and the surface roughness of the work piece. We also analyzed the wear characteristics of the tool by total cutting.

Effect of Back Tension in Multi-pass Drawing on the Central Bursting Defect (다단인발공정에서 후미인장응력이 중심파괴에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, the effect of back tension in multi-pass drawing or wiredrawing on the central bursting defect is investigated using finite element predictions. A rigid-plastic finite element method was used together with the McClintock damage model. Central bursting defects under different back tension stress values ranging from 0% to 20% of the yield strength of the material were predicted and they were compared to understand the effect of the back tension stress values on the central bursting defect. It is found that the level of back tension has a strong influence on the cumulative damage. Thus, higher back tension raises the possibility of the central bursting defect occurring, even though it decreases the interfacial pressure between the die and the work piece.

  • Shape memory alloy, Nitinol is used for medical stent, artificial human joint, antenna of artificial satellite, fire door, temperature sensor...etc. It is important for some nitinol product high precision and clean surface. In this study, we experiment about deburring of edge and surface of nitinol work piece with micro electrolytic-deburring. We made an observation in case electric currents are $1A{\sim}4A$, above 5A and each machining times.

  • It is important to measure the rotational accuracy of NC lathe spindle as it affects to the qualities of all machines machined by the NC lathe using in industries. The bad rotational accuracy of NC lathe spindle are caused mainly by wearness of the spindle in using and quality of spindle when machining and using low level bearings. It occurs especially in case of NC lathes because the cutting force acting to work-piece act on one side to the spindle not to both sides symmetrically. Therefore in this study, constructing experimental appratus for measuring of rotational accuracy by using eddy current type gap sensors, converters, screw terminal, data acquisition board inserted in computer and software f3r data acquisition, DT VEE ver. 5.0 and then error data acquired in the rotational accuracy test of NC lathe spindle are analysed in plots and statistical treatments.

  • The stability of machine tool systems is analyzed by considering the machining process as a stochastic process without decomposing into machine tool structural dynamics and cutting processes. In doing so the time series analysis technique developed by Wu and Pandit is applied systematically to the relative vibration between cutting tool and work- piece measured under actual working conditions. Various characteristic properties derived from the fitted ARMA(Autoregressive Moving Average) Models and those from raw data directly are investigated in relation with the system stability. Both damping ratio and absolute value of the characteristic roots of the AR part of the most significant dynamic mode are preferred as stability indicating factors to the other pro-perties such as theoretical variance .gamma. (o) or absolute power of the most dominant dynamic mode. Maximum aplitude during a certain interval and variance estimated from raw data are shown to be very sensi- tive to the type of the signal and the location of measurement point although they can be obtained rather easily. The relative vibration signal is also analyzed by FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) Analyzer for the purpose of comparison with the spectrums derived from the fitted ARMA models.

  • For the electro-discharge machining of an electro-conductive anisotropic composite, an unsteady state formulation was established and solved by Galerkin's finite element method. The distribution of temperature on work piece, the shape of the crater and the material removal rate were obtained in terms of the process parameters. As the spark was initiated the workpiece immediately started to melt and the heat affected zone was formed. The moving boundary of the crater was also identified with time. When the radial and axial conductivities were increased separately the temperature distribution and the shape of the crater were shifted in the same direction respectively and the material removal rate was found to be higher in the case of increasing radial conductivity rather than the axial conductivity.
