Factors Affecting Work Performance During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Empirical Study from Indonesia

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of the principal's democratic leadership style, teacher competency, work discipline, and work environment on teacher performance during the pandemic. Using the proportional random sampling strategy, a sample of 468 respondents consisted of kindergarten teachers, elementary school teachers, junior high school teachers, junior high school teachers, and high school/vocational school teachers. The study revealed that the principal's democratic leadership style, teacher competence, work discipline, and work environment substantially impact teacher performance. However, the principal's democratic leadership style does not affect teacher performance, whereas teacher competence, work discipline, and work environment have a minor impact on teacher performance. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 pandemic, work discipline is the most critical variable influencing teacher performance. The findings of this study suggest that the principal's democratic leadership style, teacher competence, work discipline, and work environment have a positive impact on teacher performance during the pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, work discipline is the most important variable influencing teacher performance. Considering that democratic leadership has no effect on teacher performance and that this leadership style is widely used by school principals in the world of education, it is assumed that there is no effect on teacher performance.

  • The purpose of this research is to look into the effects of organizational culture and training and development on work discipline and performance. The data for this study was directly obtained from employees of a municipal water corporation in Medan, Indonesia, with a total of 204 participants. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied for data analysis. The results showed that organizational culture and training and development positively and significantly affect performance. However, organizational culture and training & development positively affect employees' work discipline, albeit insignificantly. The findings of this study suggest that organizational culture and training and development play a critical role in shaping work discipline and performance in organizations in Indonesian settings. Therefore, the finding of this research engage all leaders in the organization to conduct training and development more intensively. Although it seems to have costly, this will have a good impact on the organization in the long run. Furthermore, the authors also suggest the creation of a solid organizational culture for every organization to foster excellent performance. However, each organization should choose its own acceptable organizational culture because it is possible that the organizational culture that works in one context does not work in another.

  • The study aims to analyze the supply chain role of supervision, discipline, work climate, and organizational learning on the performance of community services at the public works. This study took a sample of employees through purposive sampling technique at the Public Works Office and Bina Marga in a regency in East Java. Data through questionnaire was collected through a 5-point Likert scale model. The results show that the application of employee discipline affects the performance of public services, with a contribution of 39.7%, meaning that discipline and organizational learning are implementation factors that have an effect on public service performance. In stepwise regression analysis, the supervisory factor has a correlation with service performance, but it is less relevant, while the work climate is not relevant as a predictor variable to improve public service performance. The study revealed the importance of the supply chain policy of implementing good and clean governance and the enactment of the performance appraisal of the government apparatus established through Good Corporate Governance of the state apparatus. The findings provide a basis to encourage the public sector performance to smooth every step of supply chain management of every government project work, especially in the field of public services.

  • The purpose of this study was to explain the influence of motivation, leadership, and discipline on the performance of the midwife at Sharia Hospital X in Central Java Indonesia before the Covid-19 pandemic. This research is a combination between quantitative research and qualitative research (mix method). The population in this study were all midwives sharia hospital x in central java Indonesia, totaling 75 people. The primary data in this study came from questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation, then from the results of the analysis and data processing the researcher interpreted it more deeply using qualitative methods. The results of this study conclude that motivation, leadership, and discipline are proven to have a positive and significant effect on the performance of midwives, thus it can be concluded that an increase in motivation, leadership, and discipline in work will be able to improve the performance of the midwifes Sharia Hospital X. These results give an understanding that every time there is an increase in motivation, leadership, and work discipline, it will increase the performance of the midwifes. Motivation is the biggest variable affecting the performance, leadership is the second and work discipline is the smallest variable that affects the performance of midwives.

Design of the Multi-Discipline Simulator for the Urban Rail Transit with Object-Based Concept (객체지향방법을 응용한 도시철도 종합시뮬레이터의 설계)

  • Most rail system related simulators currently used are designed to simulate only one discipline system. This obviously assumes the other discipline systems are running regularly not being affected by the system being simulated. In this paper a multi discipline simulator is proposed and its design concept is presented. A multi discipline simulator is the simulator in which major subsystems with different technical discipline are simulated simultaneously. The advantage of the simulator is in that it makes it possible to analyze the systems behavior while other discipline system vary. With this we can identify the possible multi-discipline problems and even find their solutions. A proto type simulator has been developed using object oriented programming. Object concept was judged best suitable to model the various multi-discipline self-controlling railway subsystems. It was applied to the target system, which is under development by the Korea Railroad Research Institute. The test results shows it is very useful in designn verification. It could also be a good tool in research and development work to improve the system.

Information Exchange of Library and Information Science Doctoral Students with Faculty Advisors

  • Faculty advisors play a vital role in a learning and adjustment process of doctoral students at their work, department, university and discipline by sharing and exchanging relevant information and knowledge in the profession. Despite the important role of information practice in doctoral advising, few studies have investigated the informational aspects of faculty advisors and their students. Thus, this study aims to consider the distribution of information exchanged between faculty advisors and their doctoral students and relate them to doctoral students' demographic characteristics (gender, age, race and/or ethnicity, degree, and stage of doctoral work). The findings of this study show that overall information exchange is most frequent at the work level followed by the discipline, school/department, and university levels. In particular, information exchange at the work and discipline levels explains the characteristics of doctoral education, socializing students into both student and professional roles. In addition, there are statistically significant differences in information exchange along certain dimensions according to the advisee's gender, age, race and/or ethnicity, degree, and stage of doctoral study, suggesting that information needs and seeking behavior may vary according to the demographic characteristics of advisees.

An Instructional Planning and Reading Material Development for the "Foundation of Science Education" Course ("과학교육론" 과목의 교수모형과 교재개발연구)

  • There haw been some courses related to science education for the graduate students, but almost the study for no instructional model and reading material development haw been pursunded in Korea. This study intended to discuss the discipline character of science education research for the systematic survey of concepts, principles and theories related to science education as the first put task, and designed an instructional model of the introductory survey course of science education at graduate level, and then proposed a developmental plan of a reading material for the course teaching aid. The main work of the study was to survey the foreign literature, but the subjective analysis of researcher's courses work during graduate study in abroard and some courses offered to undergraduate and graduate students in Korea by this researcher was quite helpful, even though which was not a strictly designed experimental research. Later it was found that this kind of study was not fitted to the traditional research style but worth while to try for the research in and teaching of "science education" as an area of discipline and professional activity.

Discussion of the Paradigm of Studies on Science and Technology Policy : Suggesting the Definition of Discipline and Research Scope (과학기술정책학의 패러다임 논의 : 학문적 정의와 연구범위를 중심으로)

  • This study has been motivated by the awareness that studies on science and technology policy do not have an independent academic identity in Korea as of 2017. This research has been analyzed 19 books that have covered science and technology policy published in Korea and explored whether those have a definition of discipline and core research scope which are the key elements forming academic paradigm. As a result, this study concludes provisionally that studies on science and technology policy in Korea are still at a stage that has not yet formed a paradigm. Therefore, this work newly proposes the definition of discipline and research scope necessary to complete the paradigm of studies on science and technology policy based on this conclusion. This paper has firstly defined that studies on science and technology policy are the policy-oriented discipline. It is (1) promoting the development of science and technology itself by studying and analyzing the various phenomena of politics, economy, society, and culture related to science and technology activities as well as science and technology and (2) makes the national and public sector improve problem-solving competence using science and technology. This work also proposes a research scope consisting of four research areas such as (1) policy process of science and technology, (2) public management of science and technology, (3) R&D management and (4) technology innovation. 'Policy process of science and technology' and 'public management of science and technology' among four research areas are the new research ones reflecting the definition of studies on science and technology policy proposed in this paper. Additionally 'R&D management' and 'technology innovation' are the traditional research areas which have also included existing researches regarding science and technology policy.

  • The times of service commencement and service completion had been used for inferring the queueing systems. However, the service commencement times are difficult to measure because of unobservable nature in queueing systems. In this paper, for inferring queueing systems, the service commencement times are replaced for arrival times which can be easily observed. Determining the service commencement time is very important in our methods. The methods for first come first served(FCFS), last come first served(LCFS) queueing discipline are already developed in our previous work. In this paper, we extend to random selection for service(RSS) queueing discipline. The performance measures we used are mean queueing time and mean service time, the variances of two. The simulation results verify our proposed methods to infer queueing systems under RSS discipline.
