This study examines factors associated with drug approvals and patent issues of the Korean pharmaceutical firms. The 22 firms were selected based on 2006 year's publicly noticed sales amount. Number of approved drugs was identified through Korea Food and Drug Administration and the information regarding the patents that each firm has issued during the year 2000~2006 was collected from the Korea Patent Office. The number of approved drugs has increased annually, especially after the introduction of substance patent system in 1987 and in 2000 again with the policy change into the separation of drug prescribing and dispensing practice. The number of initial approval of NCEs as well as the number of patents per firm decreased during the year 2000~2006. The 12 firms with larger revenue occupied more than 80% of the patents being issued. There was a positive relationship between share of prescription drugs out of approved drugs and the average number of patents issued. However, number of approved drugs did not show positive association with the number of patents issued per firm. Therefore, the study results imply that firms need to invest more in increasing number of approvals for their specific prescription drugs in order to achieve a good performance in the future.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to test a model of physical activity of elderly living in Korea, determine significant factors contributing the physical activity, and examine significant paths in the model. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a convenience sample of 207 elderly men and women, aged 60 and older, residing in Busan Metropolitan City. Data were collected from July to August 2009 and analyzed using Predictive Analytics Software (PASW) and Analysis of a Moment Structures (AMOS). Results: The fitness of the modified model was confirmed to be appropriate (${\chi}^2$ = 55.61, ${\chi}^2$/df = 1.32, p = .078, RMSEA = .04, GFI = .96, AGFI = .91, NFI = .90, NNFI = .94, CFI = .97, PNFI = .48). The elder's age, previous exercise behavior, and self-efficacy were significant in explaining the variance in their physical activity. We found that (a) perceived health status, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and social support directly affected self-efficacy; (b) previous exercise behavior and perceived health status directly affected perceived benefits; (c) previous exercise behavior directly affected perceived barriers; and (d) and education level, extent of pocket money, and economic level directly affected social support. Conclusions: The younger the age, the more previous exercise experience, and the higher the self-efficacy, the more S. Korean elders demonstrated improved physical activity.
This study analyzed the status of tuberculosis patients in Korea by collecting data from the Statistics Korea and the KDCA's GLOBAL Tuberculosis Report from 2010 to 2018 to find ways to manage tuberculosis patients in Korea and provide basic data on tuberculosis policies. The results are as follows. First, the results of tuberculosis patients in Korea decreased by about 21.3% to 33,796 (65.9%) in 2018 and 26,433 (51.5%) in 2018. Second, the status of tuberculosis patient treatment in Korea was found to be 655 in 2018, an increase of about 160% compared to 2014. Third, the incidence of tuberculosis among adolescents was 1.8% in 2018 for those aged 10 to 14 and 15.0% for those aged 15 to 19, the highest rate of tuberculosis among high school students, Fourth, looking at the incidence of tuberculosis patients by age, subjects in their 60s or older showed a prevalence of tuberculosis by 60% or more, especially elderly tuberculosis patients over 80 years of age. Fifth, the status of the incidence of tuberculosis patients by gender was found to be 1.4 times higher in men than in women in 2018 compared to 2010. Sixth, 1,419 people (75.6%) in Jeollanam-do had the highest prevalence of tuberculosis nationwide, and 99 people (33.4%) in Sejong had the lowest prevalence. Seventh, the number of foreign patients in Korea continued to increase to 1,510 in 2012, increasing to 2,569 in 2016. The results this study indicate the need for rapid and accurate early tuberculosis screening policies and management for tuberculosis relapse patients, high school student, age groups over 60, a group of men such as the military, the elderly over 80, and foreigners.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the autonomy of dental hygiene students after clinical practice and their satisfaction with the clinical practice in an effort to determine how to manage courses in need of practice and how to provide education and guidance on clinical practice. A survey was conducted on the students in a three-year college in Gyeonggi Province, and the data from 295 respondents were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for autonomy, the subjects got a mean of 3.60 in respect for others, and 3.40 in respect for themselves. 2. In regard to satisfaction with clinical practice, they gave the highest score of 3.58 to the content of the clinical practice, and they gave the lowest score of 3.09 to practice hours. 3. They gave higher scores to autonomy of clinical practice when their awareness of dental hygienist at the time of college admission and after experiencing the clinical practice was better and when they were more satisfied with their major. 4. They gave the highest scores to satisfaction with the clinical practice when they voluntarily chose the department of dental hygiene in terms of motivation for major selection, when their awareness of dental hygiene at the time of college admission and after experiencing the clinical practice was better and when they were more satisfied with their major. 5. The students who gave higher scores to autonomy of the clinical practice were more satisfied with the practice.
We studied the change of bone mineral density (BMD) by age, body mass index (BMI), coffee, carbonated drink, alcohol, smoking, and exercise in adults who checked in health center. The number of study subjects was total 268 persons (women of 136 persons and men of 132 persons). The BMD was determined in lumbar spine and femoral neck by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. And we got some results as below : 1. In women, mean body height was $155.8{\pm}6.0cm$, mean body weight was $56.8{\pm}7.9kg$, and mean BMI was $23.4{\pm}3.1kg/m^2$. In men, mean body height was $169.1{\pm}6.0cm$, mean body weight was $69.0{\pm}9.5kg$, and mean BMI was $24.1{\pm}2.7kg/m^2$. 2. BMD decreased as age increased, and the age was the most determinant factor for BMD (p<0.01). Women's BMD decreased rapidly in the groups aged $\geq$50s, while men's BMD decreased gradually with age. In addition, for both sex, lower BMD was measured in lumbar spine than in femoral neck. 3. BMD increased in high BMI, and BMD with BMI increased distinctly in the group aged 50s. But their relationship was not significant. 4. In view of the distribution by three BMD categories, women's BMD was mostly normal in the groups aged $\geq$40s, but the rate of osteopenia and osteoporosis was similar in the group aged 50s, and the rate of osteoporosis was the highest in the groups aged 60s and 70s. Men's BMD was mostly normal through all groups except the group aged 70s. 5. Coffee and carbonated drink were not influenced in BMD. But alcohol-drinking group showed higher BMD than non-drinking group, and alcohol was statistically significant determinant for BMD (p<0.05). Smoking and exercise were not statistically significant determinant of BMD.

The long jump motions of 8 finalists in the women's long jump at the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011 were analyzed, and the kinematic characteristics of their techniques were investigated. The kinematic characteristics of the long jump motion of the 8 finalists were as follows. In the run-up phase, the length of the 2 stride was $108{\pm}6.92%$ that of the 3 stride. The length of the 1 stride was $91{\pm}5.78%$ that of the 2 stride. The change in the height of the center of gravity was $0.07{\pm}0.03$ m. The maximum velocity during the run-up phase was $9.44{\pm}0.13$ m at the 1 stride. In the take-off phase, the horizontal velocity, vertical velocity, reduction in horizontal velocity were $7.80{\pm}0.15$ m/s, $2.96{\pm}0.14$ m/s, and $1.64{\pm}0.19$ m/s, respectively. The minimum knee angle and take-off angle were $151{\pm}8.89^{\circ}$ and $20.7{\pm}1.03^{\circ}$, respectively. In the flight phase, the flight time and maximum height of the center of gravity were $0.78{\pm}0.03$ s, and $1.60{\pm}0.05$ m, respectively. In the landing phase, the landing length was $0.50{\pm}0.07$ m. The trunk angle, knee angle, and hip angle were $74{\pm}18.75^{\circ}$, $131{\pm}10.45^{\circ}$, and $82{\pm}9.03^{\circ}$, respectively. The kinematic characteristics of the motion of a good long jump were as follows. The reduction in the horizontal velocity in the take-off phase was minimized, and the maximum velocity of the run-up was maintained. The vertical velocity in the take-off phase was increased using a rapidly extended knee and high center of gravity.
This study empirically analyzes the effect of SNS informativeness, playfulness and reliability on purchase intention and the effect of consumer's purchase intention on business performance through structural equation model, In doing so, this study aims to suggest ways to enhance consumers' purchase intention and consequently increase the business performance through various SNS marketing strategies that can efficiently manage consumers. The questionnaires were distributed to adult men and women who are in their 20s through 60s, actively use SNS, and primarily reside in Daegu and Gyeongbukdo. The 400 copies of questionnaire were distributed from September 15 to October 1, 2018, of which 364 (91%) were used for the empirical analysis, except for 36 of the questionnaires that were unfaithful or unresponsive. Basic statistical analysis including frequency analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 24.0, reliability and validity analysis were also performed, and finally hypotheses were tested by performing confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis of structural equation model. All of the SNS informativeness, playfulness and reliability were shown to have positive effects on the purchase intention. In addition, the effect of purchase intention on business performance was found to be significant. Companies should come up with a strategic SNS marketing plan to encourage consumers to enhance the willingness to purchase their products and services through SNS, and to make actual purchases, thereby improving business performance.
This study had two goals: 1) to explore generational differences in traditional family rituals and 2) to investigate the association between family values and family rituals. Using survey data from 500 married men and women in their 20s to 60s, we classified three generations: 1) 1941-1950 birth cohort (aged 59-68), 2) 1951-1970 birth cohort (aged 39-58), and 3) 1971 and later cohort (aged 38 or less). These generations represented post-colonialism, modernization, and the information era in Korea, respectively. The results demonstrated that birth-related traditional family rituals had been maintained across the generations. Ancestor worship was less likely to be observed by later generations. Further, the way in which family values was associated with family rituals differed across the generations, indicating that traditional family values had different influences on everyday family life culture across generations.
After the economic crisis of Korea, the character of Korean Poverty has changed. Most notably, many people are working but poor. Therefore it is important to understand the characteristics of the working poor, especially the unstable work experiences of the working poor since one of the causes of poverty is that. Prior research about the working poor has not fully proven this issue. This study is to examine the job sequences of the working poor. Thus I utilized the KLIPS(Korea Labor and Income Study), and analyzed it by event sequence analysis and optimal matching methods. The job sequences are divided as follows: total years of working in the labor market, the number of gaps and the length of gaps in their careers, and the characteristics of experienced jobs since they have entered the labor market from age 15. As a result, there are no statistically significant in the total years of working in the labor market. And the number of gaps and the length of gaps in their careers, and the characteristics of experienced jobs show that working poor have been experiencing more unstable than non-poor. Thus, almost all of the male working poor has unstable jobs their whole lives, and the female working poor's job sequences show distinct features according to women's life course. These results can give political implications to the anti-poverty policy in Korea.
Background: Cervical cancer though preventable is still the leading cause of cancer death among women secondary to breast cancer. Persistent infection with HPV has been causally linked to the disease. A school based HPV vaccination program was introduced in late 2010 in Malaysia and nurse support is essential for its success. Objectives: To determine nurses knowledge and attitudes about HPV infection and its vaccines, and factors associated with their knowledge. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses working at primary health clinics in Kelantan from mid-June till the end of July 2014. Its involved 330 nurses selected through multistage random sampling. A validated self-administered questionnaire consisting of 11 items for the knowledge domain and eight items for the attitude domain was used. Results: The response rate of the study was 93.7%. The mean knowledge and mean attitude (SD) scores were 5.37 (1.76) and 29.8 (3.51) respectively. Only 24% knew that HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection and 67% correctly answered that Gardasil vaccine can protect against four types of HPV. Nearly 60% of participants wrongly answered that HPV vaccines cannot be offered to sexually active women. Likewise, 70.9% participants were not aware that HPV vaccine may be appropriate for females aged 9 through 26 years. Though 90% of participants believed that the vaccine is safe, nearly half of them were unsure about efficacy. From multiple linear regression analysis, among the factors tested only participant's level of education showed a statistically significant association with the HPV knowledge score (p <0.001). Conclusions: This study indicates nurses have favorable attitudes towards HPV vaccination; however they have significant knowledge deficit and major misunderstanding in critical knowledge items. Among the factors tested, nursing qualification is the only factor that is significantly associated with the nurses knowledge score.
