  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the size of ready-made clothing for elderly women and to evaluate their fit according to body type. Subjects were 33 women aged 60 and older, and they were classified by stature and drop index. The size of clothing which manufactured by four apparel brands were measured and compared with body size, and the size designation of four brands was compared. The questionnaire was carried out to subjects, and the size recognition and dissatisfaction with ready-made clothing were analyzed. The fitting test were carried out, and the subjects evaluated the fit of jackets and slacks of four brands. In the result of questionnaire, we found that subjects had little recognition about their clothing size. Subjects responded that they often felt dissatisfaction in their jacket length, sleeve length, shoulder width, bust girth, slacks, and waist girth. We found that each apparel brands had different sizing system and that even if the size designation of label was same, the clothing size was quite different. So the elderly women who didn't have so much knowledge about their own clothing size had a tendency to confuse with choosing proper clothing for themselves. In the wearer's evaluation, the significant difference in the degree of unsatisfaction were certified in several body parts according to wearer's body type. Especially, the degree of unsatisfaction in the case of subjects of having very small stature or very small hip was higher than other body types. From the result, we certified that it was necessary to consider the characteristics of each body type to increase the satisfaction of elderly women with clothing.

  • Purpose: This study investigated knowledge of and attitudes toward advance directives (ADs) among middle-aged women in South Korea, their willingness to write ADs in the future, and the factors related to knowledge of and attitudes toward ADs. Methods: Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire completed by 154 middle-aged women aged 50 to 64 from February to March 2020. The questionnaire asked about participants' knowledge of and attitude toward ADs, willingness to write ADs in the future, experiences with life-sustaining treatment within their families, experience making decisions about life-sustaining treatment, and demographic characteristics. Results: Scores for both knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were relatively high. About 60% of participants gave wrong answers when asked if attorneys were required for writing ADs. A higher knowledge score was significantly associated with a higher attitude score (r=0.227, P<0.01). The women were more likely to be willing to write ADs in the future when they reported a middle income level rather than a lower income level (odds ratio [OR]=5.952, P<0.01), considered themselves unhealthy (OR=5.873, P<0.01), and graduated college or higher (OR=4.096, P<0.05). Furthermore, women who thought that ADs would have an impact on treatment (OR=1.869, P<0.05) and on their families (OR=1.447, P<0.05) were more likely to be willing to write an AD. Conclusion: This study shows that wrong information about ADs persists among middle-aged women, and significant factors associated with knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were identified. Targeted education programs about ADs need to be developed for middle-aged women.

  • This study was conducted on elderly women in their 60s and 70s, and the results of the study were as follows when line dancing for 60 minuctes every three times a week for 12 weeks on dementia and aging-related hormones. After 12 weeks of line dancing programs, BDNF, DHEA-s, and estrogen increased, but no statistically significant differences with control groups emerged. In addition, after 12 weeks of line dancing, Apolipoprotein B decreased in line dancing group but showed no statistically significant difference from control group. Although significant differences between groups were not identified in the results of this study, positive effects on preventing and aging of dementia were identified in the group applying the line dance program, and further studies considering the new target and hign kinetic strength, frequency, time, and athletic genre are needed to identify the distinct effects of line dancing in the future.

In order to secure higher validity of the candidate items, verification of their clinical validity was conducted among women aged between 45 and 60 years. Finally, an assessment tool was developed by applying weight and scoring. Results: Selected 51 questions were used to verify clinical validity and the results showed that 20 questions were relevant, nine questions ('regular meal time', 'regular amount of meal', 'intake frequency of dairy products', 'intake frequency of fruits', 'intake frequency of meat products', 'intake frequency of high cholesterol foods', 'intake frequency of salty foods', 'appetite', 'eat breakfast everyday') were related to dietary life. Eleven other questions ('self-rated health status', 'deep sleep', 'smoking', 'frequency of drinking', 'stress levels', 'health-related fitness levels', 'pounding of the heart', 'strange feelings on the skin', 'interfere with daily life', 'menopause will bring you a chance to see the life in a different perspective', and 'body mass index') were selected as valid questions. For the response scale for each question, 5 point Likert scale was used to make total 100 point score. Methods : Twenty-four obese women were randomly divided into three groups (circuit exercise training, CT; aerobic exercise training, AT; resistance exercise training, RT). All the subjects participated in the exercise program for 60 minutes, 3 times a week for 12 weeks. Results : Significant differences found in the participants pre-and post exercise training C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, and adiponectin levels. The CT participants experience an expected increase in their adiponectin levels. Significantly improved blood TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, and TG levels were found after 12 weeks of exercise. The AT and CT groups showed greater improvements in their HDL-C, LDL-C, and TG levels than the RT group. Significant differences were found in the participants pre-and post-exercise training body weight, body fat percentage, and body mass index (BMI). Conclusion : The CT participants body fat percentages decreased more than the RT group's percentages. In conclusion, obese women who completed 12 weeks of circuit exercise training (aerobics + resistance exercise) had significant improvements in their inflammatory markers, blood lipids, and body fat percentage.
