BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Calcium is important but deficient in diets of young adult women. This study aimed to examine if cognitive factors and eating behaviors differ according to calcium intake based on the Social Cognitive Theory. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Subjects were female college students in Seoul, Korea. Three hundred students completed the questionnaire regarding calcium intake, nutrition knowledge, outcome expectations, self-efficacy and eating behaviors. Data on 240 students were analyzed using t-test or ${\chi}^2$-test. Subjects were categorized into two groups, high calcium intake (HC, ${\geq}650mg/day$) and low calcium intake (LC, < 650 mg/day), according to recommended intakes of calcium for women aged 19-29 years. RESULTS: The LC group constituted 77.9% of total subjects. Nutrition knowledge was not different according to calcium intake. Three out of 12 outcome expectations items were significantly different between the HC and LC groups. Subjects in the HC group agreed more strongly with the practical benefits of consuming calcium-rich foods, including 'taste' (P < 0.01) and 'going well with other snacks' (P < 0.05), compared to those in the LC group. Negative expectations of 'indigestion' were stronger in the LC group than HC group (P < 0.001). Among self-efficacy items, perceived ability of 'eating dairy foods for snacks' (P < 0.001), 'eating dairy foods every day' (P < 0.01), and 'eating calcium-rich side dishes at meals' (P < 0.05) differed significantly between the HC and LC groups. Eating behaviors including more frequent consumption of dairy foods, fruits or fruit juice (P < 0.001), anchovy, seaweeds, green vegetables, protein-rich foods (P < 0.05), and less frequent consumption of sweets or soft drinks (P < 0.01) were significantly related to calcium intake. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that outcome expectations, self-efficacy in consuming calcium-rich foods, and eating behaviors are important in explaining calcium intake. Nutrition education needs to address practical benefits, reduce negative expectations of calcium-rich foods, increase self-efficacy, and modify eating behaviors contributing to calcium intake.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing health promoting behavior of college students to develop health promoting interventions of young adults. The subjects of this study were 176 women college students, living in a small city in Korea. The data were collected by interviews and a self-report questionnaire, during the period from September, 1999 to December, 1999. The instruments for this study were the PRQ-II by Weinert(1988), the scale of Locus of Control by Wallstone et al.(1978), the scale of self efficacy by Sherer & Maddux(1982), 10 points visual analogue scale for perceived health status and the importance of health, the health promoting behavior scale by Walker et al.(1987), and the scales developed by the authors for the perceived benefits of health promoting behavior, and perceived barriers to health promoting behavior. Cronbach 's alpha of these scales were .68 ~.89. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Among cognitive perceptual factors of the Health Promotion Model by Pender(1987), the scores of the importance of health, the perceived internal control of health, self efficacy, the perceived health status, and the perceived benefits had a significantly positive correlation with the scores of the health promoting behavior of college students. In addition, the scores of the perceived barriers had a significantly negative correlation with the scores of the health promoting behavior of college students. 2. Among modifying factors of the Health Promotion Model by Pender(1987), the extent of religious activities of college students and the scores of social support had a significantly positive correlation with the scores of health promoting behavior of college students. 3. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was self-efficacy. A combination of self-efficacy, the perceived benefits, the perceived barriers, the perceived health status, and the importance of health accounted for 45.1% of the variance in health promoting behavior in college students From the results of this study, we concluded that the Health Promotion Model by Pender can be used to explain health promoting behavior of college students. In addition, we suggested that the results of this study be considered in developing health promoting programs of young adults.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the intention of visiting obstetrics and gynecology of female college students by considering their perception and optimistic bias. Methods: The study included a total of 135 female college students under the age of 25. The data collection period is a descriptive research study conducted online from April 8, 2019 to April 16, 2019. The collected data were analyzed using the correlation of t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression using SPSS 20.0. Results: The degree of intention of behavior for visits to obstetrics and gynecology was $3.10{\pm}1.06points$ on average. Intention of behavior for visits to obstetrics and gynecology had significant variance depending on sexual experience (t=3.09, p<.001). The intention of behavior for visits to obstetrics and gynecology had positive correlations with the cognition of visits to obstetrics and gynecology (r=.422, p<.001), the optimism bias (r=.419, p<.001). Influence factors emerged the optimism bias, cognition and sexual experience with explanatory power of 30.4%. Conclusion: The results of this paper can be used to prepare the basic data for the development of educational programs to promote preventive gynecological visits of female college students. Through this, the preventive screening rate, the quality of reproductive health in women's lives.
Objectives : This study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy, social support, career education experience, career attitude maturity for college students with major in health administration. Methods : The subjects were 395 students with major in health administration from 2 universities and 2 colleges located in Incheon city, Gyeonggi province, and Chungcheognam province. Data were collected from June 2 to 20, 2008 using structured questionnaires. Results : For the difference by characteristics of the respondents, the score of career attitude maturity were significantly different according to age(F=3.415), high school style(F=2.661), subject economic status(F=3.627), subject satisfaction of school life(F=7.964), subject health status(F=6.507). For the correlation of major variable, Career attitude maturity was positively correlated with career decision-making self-efficacy, social support from friends, social support from family, social support from professor, career education experience. In a regression analysis, career decision-making self-efficacy($\beta$=.378), social support from friends($\beta$=.198), age($\beta$=.124), grade($\beta$=-.161) significant predictors to explain career attitude maturity(32%). Conclusions : It is necessary to activates the social network from friends and to develop an effective program to improve career attitude maturity of students with major in health administration considering these findings.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the extent of awareness and understanding of college students on temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and to search for avenues for raising public awareness and improving knowledge about TMD. Methods: One thousand and one hundred and twenty one college students in Gyeonggi-do completed a questionnaire related to awareness, experience and knowledge of TMD and collected data were analyzed by Pearson's chi-squared test. Results: Women were more significantly aware of the terms, 'TMD' (p<0.001) and 'jaw joint disease' (p<0.001) than men. Third graders were more significantly aware of the terms, 'TMD' (p<0.001) and 'jaw joint disease' (p<0.001) than any other graders. Third graders the most frequently chose to visit department of dentistry for the treatment of TMD among three graders (p<0.001). Women more frequently chose to visit department of dentistry for the treatment of TMD than men (p<0.001). Health field subjects were more significantly aware of the terms, 'TMD' (p<0.001) and 'jaw joint disease' (p<0.001) than non health field subjects. Having more frequently visited department of dentistry for the treatment of TMD than non health field subjects (p<0.001), health field subjects more frequently chose to visit department of dentistry for the treatment of TMD in the future (p<0.001). Conclusions: The level of awareness and knowledge of TMD was higher in women college students, health field subjects and third graders than men college students, non health field subjects and the rest of two graders, respectively. The higher the level of experience and education of the subject, the more aware the subject was of TMD. Therefore publicity activities and education through various routes are required to raise public awareness and knowledge of TMD. In addition, it is necessary to inform general public of the dentistry specialized for the accurate diagnosis and standardized treatment of TMD.
Even a lot of research has shown about entrepreneurship, there are still some limitations to apply to women. It was limited because it has been illuminated by general points of view. In this situation, it is needed to study more about entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship will. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of entrepreneurship education experience and the effect of entrepreneurship education on the will of entrepreneurship. First, the implications of the study were to verify that the effect of entrepreneurship education, which is the ability of entrepreneurship knowledge, can contribute to raising the will of entrepreneurship. Therefore, in the entrepreneurship education conducted by universities, operating as a participatory program that can enhance entrepreneurship skills rather than theoretical aspects will contribute to enhancing the willingness of female college students to start up. Second, career orientation and entrepreneurship, which are characteristics of individual psychological behavior, have the result of raising the will to start a business and linking it to actual start-up. Therefore, it is suggested that students conduct their entrepreneurship comprehension and connect themselves to active entrepreneurship activities by conducting a diagnosis of the career orientation and entrepreneurship of students during the start-up education of the university. Third, women's entrepreneurship will become more active in government, and university entrepreneurship support programs expanded to target women's college students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate if star marketing of on-line shopping malls affects consumers' WOM effect, and to compare the differences of consumption behavior between female teenagers and college students. Two hundred five female teenagers and college students who had purchased fashion goods through internet shopping mall participated in this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression were used. As the results, first, recognition of celebrity advertising models was classified into three factors such as 'trust of product', 'attractiveness of product' and 'leading interest of product' factors. Second, the greater exposure to celebrity models, the greater the good feelings about them, showing respondents' positive consumption behavior. Third, results of multiple regression revealed that behavior of pursuing celebrities' style accounted for 37% of the explained variance WOM behavior. Finally, t-test revealed that female college students were affected more by celebrity style and bought fashion items than female teenagers. However, female teenagers conducted more WOM behavior than college students. Based on these results, on-line fashion marketers would use these data for more their efficient fashion marketing strategies.
The purpose of this study was to classify women's face types by visual distinction and to analyze the measurement of face types. A survey was conducted by subjects of 167 women's college students in Kwangju City and Chonnam area. Data were analyzed by Frequencies, Mean, one way ANOVA and Ducan's Multiple Range Test. The major results were as followed ; ·Women's face types were classified by 7 types and there were oblong shape(28.3%), egg shape(25.7%), round shape(23.9%), square shape(12.4%), inverted triangle shape(5.3%), diamond shape(3.5%), triangle shape(0.8%) in the subjects. ·From the measurements of the women's face, index of face length to face breadth was 1.38, it means that the index was different from the other refferences. And the lower face length was longer than the upper and the middle face lengths. ·Differences From those measurements like forehead breadth, face length/bizigion breath(p〈.001), bizigion breadth, bignathion slopper, stature(p〈.01) and trichion breadth, tragion-menton length(p〈.05) were significant in the classified face types.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the variables which account for college students' attitudes toward parent caregiving. The subjects or this research were 204 students(male:98, female:106) who were currently enrolled at three coeducational universities and one women's university located in the metropolitan area. The instruments used for this study were Attachment and Conflict Scale by Song(1986) and Im(1988), and Parent Caregiving Attitudes Scale by Shin(1993). The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlations and stepwise multiple regression. The major results of this study were as follows: First, it turned out that a significant gender difference in attitudes toward parent caregiving exists. Female college students had more positive attitudes toward parent caregiving than male college students. Second, the variables explaining college students'attitudes toward parent caregiving were the extent of attachment with their parents and the experience of cohabitation with their grandparents. The stronger male and female students had attachment with their parents, the more positive attitudes toward parent caregiving they had. In addition, male college students without an experience of cohabitation with their grandparents reported more positive attitudes toward parent caregiving.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of nursing college students who attended delivery practices at midwifery clinic. Methods: This was a qualitative study using focus groups. Data were collected by group interviews with a total of 12 students who observed natural childbirth at midwifery clinic. Data were analyzed through Colaizzi's method in which meaningful statements were extracted. Results: The meanings of experiences were identified five theme clusters from thirteen themes and thirty-one sub-themes. The five theme clusters were 'ultimate process of natural childbirth', 'allowed birth', 'role recognition of the midwife', 'positively changed perception', and 'barriers'. Conclusion: This study showed that observation of delivery at midwifery clinic was helpful for nursing students in terms of positive impression about natural childbirth with maternal and baby being centered. Nursing students expressed value and concern about delivery at midwifery clinic. Further in-depth study of natural childbirth in terms of husband and family perspective is required. For quality improvement of maternity nursing care, natural childbirth process needs to be included in nursing care at hospitals as well as students' clinical practicum.
