The purpose of this prospective study was to investigate whether office hysteroscopy (OH) can be used to assess the mechanisms of action of progestogen-only contraceptives (POCs), diagnose possible local causes of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), and support the treatment plan of symptomatic patients using POCs compared with those who do not use hormones. The study included 140 women who were divided into two groups. Group A consisted of 70 women who used POCs, whereas group B consisted of 70 women who did not use hormones. They were successively examined using transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS), OH, and endometrial sampling. The TVS results were consistent with those of OH and histopathology. The changes in endometrial thickness and vasculature, as well as fallopian tube (FT) functions, were significantly more pronounced in POC users than in non-POC users. There was a significant reduction in the peristalsis of the proximal part of the FT, as well as a reduction in the bubble flow test in group A compared with group B. In addition, the combination of peristalsis and the bubble flow test (Darwishscope test) was significantly lower in group A. It was concluded that using OH as a simple diagnostic tool in women with POCs would contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms of endometrial and FT effects and explain some local endometrial causes of AUB. This ensures that the combination of TVS and OH would limit routine endometrial sampling in POCs users.

This study was carried out during the month of september 1982 to analyse and evaluate of the mental and physical health status of University woman students using the Cornell Medical index. The purpose of the study was to provide basic data required by the University health program for planning related health need of woman students. The study sample is consisted of 486 students living in the dormitory enrolled for the fall semester 1982 in a Women's University in Seoul. The instrument used for the collection of data was an abridged version of a modified Cornell Medical Index. The questionarre includes 35 items related to physical health complaints and 22 items related to mental health complaints. The data was treated by a computer(SPSS) using one way analysis, and The Fishers' ratio and Chi-square test at the 5% level were also adjusted for the test for statistical significance. The interpretation of this study is limited due to the sample which was restricted to one University and not randomly selected. The followings are the results of the foundings so far achieved. 1. More than 60% of the Woman students have physical health problems in digestive system, cardiovascular system, nervous system, respiratory system, and musculo skeletal system in the order named. 2. More than 50% of the woman students have mental problems because of anger inadequacy sensitivity tension, depression and anxiety in the order named. 3. There were no statistically significant differences among woman students in mental and physical health problems caused by year groups, major groups, growing regional groups. 4. There were significant differences caused by the number of brothers and sisters in the aspect of appealing mental and physical problems. 5. There were significant differences caused by the rate of satisfaction in the living cost, and the lower the rate of the satisfaction in the living cost goes, the higher tile frequency rate of the appealing mental and physical health problems is. 6. There were significant differences caused by the rate of satisfaction of the living in the aspect of appealing mental and physical health problems. There fore, the lower the rate of the satisfaction of the living goes, the higher the frequency rate of the appealing mental and physical health problems is, and the more the complaints are, the more frequent the appealing of the problems of digestive system, circulating system and fatigue is.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of women's late age of marriage on the interval between marriage and their first birth Methods: Data from Year 2000 Korea National Fertility Survey was collected through direct interview questionings, and the data was analyzed based on randomly selected sampling. In particular, the married women (N=5,648) were analyzed for the factors that determined the first-birth interval by performing Cox's proportional hazard model survival analysis. Results: Unlike previous findings, the woman whose age of marriage was 30 or more was more likely to delay the birth of her first baby than were the other women who married earlier. Further, a woman's age at marriage, a woman's residence before marriage, her husband's religion, her husband's level of education and the difference in age between the woman and her husband significantly influenced the first-birth interval. In contrast, for a married woman, her age, level of education, current residence and religion were not significant predictors of her first birth interval. Conclusions: Our study showed that women who married at the age of 30 years or more tend to postpone their first birth in Korea. When facing the increasing number of women who marry at a late age, the Korean government should implement population and social policies to encourage married women have their first child as early as possible.

This case report describes a case of isolated (not associated with other anomalies) lower vaginal hypoplasia complicated by megalourethra (urethral dilatation) due to frequent urethral sexual intercourse in a regularly menstruating (hypomenorrheic) woman. The patient was a 24-year-old woman who underwent transperineal ultrasonography as well as magnetic resonance imaging followed by sequential cystoscopic and vaginoscopic examinations. Finally, a pull-through procedure was used to create a new vagina. The main outcome measure was patent vagina formation. The procedure successfully corrected isolated lower vaginal hypoplasia. The postoperative course was smooth, with the restoration of regular intercourse in the correct location. It was concluded that all gynecologists should have increased awareness of rare female genital anomalies to avoid serious sequelae, particularly in newly married patients.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the mediated effect of social support in relationship of stress and mental health of woman college students. Methods: Data were collected by distributing self recording type questionnaire to 336 woman students in three universities placed in Gyeonggi-do, who agreed attending to the research, and then were re-collected. The statistical methods used for data analysis were the descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, One-way ANOVA test, Pearson correlation coefficient, hierarchial regression analysis. Results: 1. According to the research, it appeared that social support differed depending on the grade the one is in(F=10.643, p<0.05), and mental health(F=3.446, p<0.05) and social support(F=2.444, p<0.05) differed depending on the family's economical level. 2. As the result of analysis of relationship of objects' mental health, stress, and social support, it appeared that mental health and stress(r=-0.605, p<0.01), mental health and social support(r=0.276, p<0.01) have relationship to each other. 3. As the result of hierarchial regression analysis for verifying the mediated effect of social support in relationship of research objects' stress and mental health, it showed that social support partially mediate in relationship of stress and mental health. Conclusion: The program which can intensify woman college students' social support and decrease stress needs to be developed and provided, in order to arrange solution of promoting woman students' mental health.
The purpose of this study was to perform the fetal education effectively for the delivered woman and her husband. This study was conducted by the questionnaire survey on 199 delivered women and their 171 husbands at several hospitals located in Seoul and Kyonggi Province from February 28 to March 26, 2002. The contents of questionnaire included the purposes, the cognition and the practice of fetal education. The SAS program was used for the statistical analysis of the data. The character of subject was analyzed by the percentage. The difference between the cognition and practice of fetal education was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Wilcoxon rank sum test. The factor analysis affected on the practice of fetal education was adopted by Multiple regression. The results were as follows; 1. In the purpose of fetal education, the well- balanced emotion showed the highest mark. The cognition of fetal education(woman:$4.39{\pm}0.52$, husband:$3.88{\pm}0.70$) and the practice (woman:$3.88{\pm}0.60$, husband:$3.83{\pm}0.70$) showed the relatively high mark, but the score of cognition showed higher than that of practice. 2. In the comparison of the cognition between the delivered woman and the husband for the fetal education the item of the mental or health state would affect unborn baby, which occupied the highest mark in both woman and the husband(woman:$4.81{\pm}0.44$, husband:$4.81{\pm}0.50$). But they were prohibited to eat the deformed food, which showed the lowest mark(woman:$3.19{\pm}1.12$, husband:$3.21{\pm}1.29$). 3. In the comparison of the practice for the fetal education between the delivered woman and the husband, the practice for the healthy baby showed the highest mark in woman ($4.51{\pm}0.71$), which had a statistically significant difference(P=0.025), compared with that of the husband($4.13{\pm}0.99$). 4. In the comparison of cognition and practice for the fetal education, the general character was associated with the duration of marriage, the satisfaction with marriage and the support of husband on pregnancy. The mark was associated with the age of woman, the level of education and the first birth. 5. The significant factors influencing on the practice for the fetal education were connected with the cognition of fetal education, age, satisfaction with marriage, the support of husband on pregnancy, the type of family, the experience of delivery and the state of health during the period of pregnancy. etc. In conclusion, it is indicated to make effort for transforming and developing the traditional fetal education in accordance with the modern fetal education. And it is suggested that the fetal education might be recognized by all members of family, and the importance of husband's role for the fetal education should be informed as well as that of woman's.

Background: To assess the role of sonographic endometrial thickness and hysteroscopic polyp size in predicting premalignant and malignant polyps in postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods: A total of 328 postmenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding and thickened endometrium underwent operative hysteroscopy due to detection of endometrial polyps were included in this retrospective study. Preoperative endometrial thickness measured by transvaginal ultrasonography and polyp size on hysteroscopy were noted. Hysteroscopic resection with histology was performed for endometrial polyps. Endometrial thickness and polyp size were evaluated on the basis of final diagnosis established by histologic examination. Receiver operator characteristic curves were calculated to assess the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of endometrial thickness and polyp size for detecting pemalignant and malignant polyps. Results: Premalignant and malignant polyps were identified in 26 (7.9%) of cases. Sonographic measurement showed a greater endometrial thickness in cases of premalignant and malignant polyps when compared to benign polyps. On surgical hysteroscopy, premalignant and malignant polyps were also larger. Endometrial thickness demonstrated a sensitivity of 53.8%, specificity of 85.8%, PPV of 24.6% and NPV of 95.6% at a cut-off limit of 11.5 mm with diagnostic accuracy of 83.2%. Polyp size has a diagnostic accuracy of 94.8% with a sensitivity of 92.3%, specificity of 95.0%, PPV of 61.5% and NPV of 99.3% at a cut-off point of 19.5mm. Conclusions: Endometrial thickness measured by transvaginal ultrasonography is not sufficient in predicting premalignant and malignant endometrial polyps in postmenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding and thickened endometrium. Polyp size on hysteroscopy is a more accurate parameter, because of better sensitivity and specificity. However, while polyp size ${\geq}19.5mm$ seems to have a great accuracy for predicting premalignancy and malignancy, histologic evaluation is still necessary to exclude premalignant and malignant polyps.
In order to develop some indicies for the evaluation of village health worker's activities and to find out personal characteristics and other factors that affect the activities, an interview survey was conducted to thirty seven village health workers (VHW) in Sunwon, Naega and Bulun townships in Kangwha county, where the Community Health Project of Yonsei University, College of Medicine, has been implemented for the past ten years. In addition, daily activity records of the VHW's were also analyzed. The results are summarized below: First, meeting attendance rates, number of regular family visits, number of antenatal care visits and number of family planning visits were identified as the most meaningful criterion for the evaluation of the village health worker's activities. Second, personal factors that significantly affect the village health worker's activities were identified as age, educational background, living with in-laws, religion, presence of preschool child in the family, holding leader's position of village woman's association concurrently, and duration serving as a VHW. The more aged and the more educated VHWs were the more effective. Those VHWs who were living with in-laws, without preschool child in the family, holding the leader's position of the village woman's association, and the longer service duration were the more effective. Other factors that affect the VHW's activities were the number of households in the target village and the number of natural villages in the target villages. It showed that the smaller the size of number of households and natural villages, the higher the degrees of the effectiveness of the VHW.
