  • This paper presents an analysis architecture of embedded operating systems for wireless sensor network. Wireless multi-hop sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing device. We expect sensor networks to be deployed in an ad hoc fashion, with very high energy constraints. These characteristics of multi-hop wireless sensor networks and applications motivate an operating system that is different from traditional embedded operating system. These days new wireless sensor network embedded operating system come out with some advances compared with previous ones. The analysis is focusing on understanding differences of dominant wireless sensor network OS, such as TinyOS 2.0 with TinyOS 1.x.

  • 무선센서네트워크 환경의 웹기반(web-based) 교량모니터링시스템을 갖추기 위하여 무선통신을 기반으로 디지털 초소형센서와 마이크로 프로세싱, 데이터 취합 및 관리를 위한 데이터베이스, 각종 제어 프로그램, 인터넷 데이터 전송 프로세서를 기본적으로 구축하여 무선으로 수신된 데이터를 수집하고 분석하였다. 그리고 이러한 교량모니터링 시스템의 적용성을 검증을 위하여 동일조건에서 유선방식과 무선방식으로 실험을 병행 수행한 후 각각의 계측결과들을 비교하였다. 비교한 결과 유선으로 계측한 결과와 무선으로 계측한 값은 유사하지만 무선센서의 통신과정에서 데이터의 손실이 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 실내실험과 현장실험을 통하여 본 연구의 효율성과 적용성을 검증하였다.

  • 무선인체센서네트워크(WBSN: Wireless Body Sensor Network)은 일반적으로 무선인체네트워크(WBAN: Wireless Body Area Networks)라고도 불리는데, 일종의 무선센서네트워크(WSN: Wireless Sensor Network)의 응용 중에 하나로, 인간의 신체에 이식되거나 착용하는 형태의 감지노드들로 인체 가까이에 설치된다. WBSN에 설치된 각 노드로부터 측정된 데이터는 싱크 노드에서 인체 상태를 분석하기 위하여 사용되는데, 다른 무선센서네트워크 응용과 마찬가지로 노드와 싱크 노드는 서로 동기화되어야 한다. 무선센터네트워크에서 동작하는 여러시각 동기화 프로토콜이 제안되어왔으나 WBSN에 적용하기에는 부적합하다. 이 논문에서는 WBSN의 특성을 고려하여 새로운 시각 동기화 프로토콜을 제안한다. 제안한 프로토콜은 간단할뿐만 아니라 전력 소모가 작아 네트워크의 수명을 오랫동안 유지할 수 있게 한다. 제안 방안의 성능을 시뮬레이션을 통해 평가하였으며, WBSN에서 구현하기에 적합함을 보였다.

Ultrasonic wireless sensor development for online fatigue crack detection and failure warning

  • This paper develops a wireless sensor for online fatigue crack detection and failure warning based on crack-induced nonlinear ultrasonic modulation. The wireless sensor consists of packaged piezoelectric (PZT) module, an excitation/sensing module, a data acquisition/processing module, a wireless communication module, and a power supply module. The packaged PZT and the excitation/sensing module generate ultrasonic waves on a structure and capture the response. Based on nonlinear ultrasonic modulation created by a crack, the data acquisition/processing module periodically performs fatigue crack diagnosis and provides failure warning if a component failure is imminent. The outcomes are transmitted to a base through the wireless communication module where two-levels duty cycling media access control (MAC) is implemented. The uniqueness of the paper lies in that 1) the proposed wireless sensor is developed specifically for online fatigue crack detection and failure warning, 2) failure warning as well as crack diagnosis are provided based on crack-induced nonlinear ultrasonic modulation, 3) event-driven operation of the sensor, considering rare extreme events such as earthquakes, is made possible with a power minimization strategy, and 4) the applicability of the wireless sensor to steel welded members is examined through field and laboratory tests. A fatigue crack on a steel welded specimen was successfully detected when the overall width of the crack was around $30{\mu}m$, and a failure warnings were provided when about 97.6% of the remaining useful fatigue lives were reached. Four wireless sensors were deployed on Yeongjong Grand Bridge in Souht Korea. The wireless sensor consumed 282.95 J for 3 weeks, and the processed results on the sensor were transmitted up to 20 m with over 90% success rate.

  • Many surveillance cameras used in security system are controlled with RS-485 communication protocol. In this situation, if RS-485 connection can be replaced with wireless connection using sensor network technology, an installation will become ease because of no wired connection and also a deployment of cameras will become free. This paper explains about the design of wireless sensor node and the necessary implementation for an operation, which can be replacing RS-485 connection for the development of CCTV control system based on wireless sensor network. The hardware platform of sensor node was designed based on MicaZ and the software was developed based on TinyOS. To control surveillance cameras deployed on wide area, the supporting of multi-hop also was implemented. With the result of experiment deploying on real environment, it was revealed that the controller could control cameras quickly with wireless.

  • In this paper, we deployed the tunnel inspection and monitoring system by wireless sensor network. It is shown that the wireless sensor network which is composed of sensor, wireless communication module, and gateway system can be applied to tunnel monitoring system. Sensors included herein are acceleration transducers, fire-alarm sensors, water-level sensors, and magnetic contact sensors. It is also found that the wireless sensor network can deliver sensing data reliably by ad-hoc networking technology. The gateway system that can send the sensing data to server by CDMA (code division multiple access) is developed. Finally, monitoring system is constructed by web service technology, and it is observed that this system can monitor the present state of tunnel without difficulties. Furthermore, the above system provides an alternative to inspect and monitor the tunnel efficiently where the conventional wired system cannot be applied.

  • A distributed healthcare monitoring system prototype for clinical and trauma patients was developed, using wireless sensor network node. The proposed system aimed to measure various vital physiological health parameters like ECG and body temperature of patients and elderly persons, and transfer his/her health status wirelessly in Ad-hoc network to remote base station which was connected to doctor's PDA/PC or to a hospital's main Server using wireless sensor node. The system also aims to save the cost of healthcare facility for patients and the operating power of the system because sensor network is deployed widely and the distance from sensor to base station was shorter than in general centralized system. The wireless data communication will follow IEEE 802.15.4 frequency communication with ad-hoc routing thus enabling every motes attached to patients, to form a wireless data network to send data to base-station, providing mobility and convenience to the users in home environment.

  • A unreliable network system results in unsatisfied performance. A performance criterion of a network is throughput and availability. One of the most compelling technological advances of this decade has been the advent of deploying wireless networks of heterogeneous smart sensor nodes for complex information gathering tasks, The advancement and popularization of wireless communication technologies make more efficiency to network devices with wireless technology than with wired technology. Recently, the research of wireless sensor network has been drawing much attentions. In this paper, We evaluate throughput and availability of wireless sensor network, which have hierarchical structure based on clustering and estimate the maximum hroughput, average throughput and availability of the network considering several link failure patterns likely to happen at a cluster consisted of sensor nodes. Also increasing a number of sensor nodes in a cluster, We analysis the average throughput and availability of the network.

  • The most of important thing when we design a Wireless Sensor Network is resources. You have to consider energy efficient operation When you design Wireless Sensor Network. Because Sensor devices have a limited resources. In this paper, we proposed energy efficiency localization technique in Wireless Sensor Network. We used Cell ID technique for location search. This method can reduce power consumption and the network life time will be extension.
