초소형 로봇을 이용한 점도성 유체의 혼합 효율 향상 (Enhancement of Mixing Performance in Viscous Liquid Using an Electromagnetically Driven Microrobot)

  • This paper presents an electromagnetically driven microrobot for the enhancement of mixing performance in high viscous liquid media such as blood and bone marrow. First, an electromagnetic system was fabricated, and the magnetic flux density generated from the system was compared with the theoretical value. Second, the reciprocating motion of the microrobot was demonstrated in microchannel using electromagnetic system. As a proof of concept, the mixing performance by the electromagnetically driven microrobot in high viscous liquid was investigated using safranin solution. As a result, it was completely mixed within 140 s with the reciprocating motion of the microrobot while it took 1680 s for natural diffusion. In addition, the mixing efficiency was quantitatively evaluated through a mixing index obtained by an image analysis. The proposed method provides not only wireless actuation of a microrobot with a simple design but also high mixing performance in variety of high viscous liquid media.

Cooperative Nano Communication in the THz Gap Frequency Range using Wireless Power Transfer

  • Advancements in nanotechnology and novel nano materials in the past decade have provided a set of tools that can be used to design and manufacture integrated nano devices, which are capable of performing sensing, computing, data storing and actuation. In this paper, we have proposed cooperative nano communication using Power Switching Relay (PSR) Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) protocol and Time Switching Relay (TSR) WPT protocol over independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) Rayleigh fading channels in the Terahertz (THz) Gap frequency band to increase the range of transmission. Outage Probability (OP) performances for the proposed cooperative nano communication networks have been evaluated for the following scenarios: A) A single decode-and-forward (DF) relay for PSR protocol and TSR protocol, B) DF multi-relay network with best relay selection (BRS) for PSR protocol and TSR protocol, and C) DF multi-relay network with multiple DF hops with BRS for PSR protocol and TSR protocol. The results have shown that the transmission distance can be improved significantly by employing DF relays with WPT. They have also shown that by increasing the number of hops in a relay the OP performance is only marginally degraded. The analytical results have been verified by Monte-Carlo simulations.

무선 채널을 활용한 제어 신호 컴퓨팅 (Control Signal Computation using Wireless Channel)

  • 무선 기반 제어 시스템에서 안정성을 보장하기 위한 일반적인 설계 방식은 제어기가 무선채널을 통하여 개별 센서 값을 수신한 다음 계산된 제어신호를 액추에이터로 전송한다. 본 논문에서는 플랜트의 모든 센서가 동시에 스케일링된 신호를 액추에이터로 전송한 후, 액추에이터가 수신 된 신호를 추가적으로 스케일링하여 피드백 제어신호를 계산할 수 있는 Over-the-air controller 기법을 제안한다. 이러한 제어신호 컴퓨팅 기법은 기본적으로 Over-the-air computation 기술을 적용하여 무선 제어 시스템의 제어신호를 무선채널을 통하여 계산한다. 일반적인 센서-제어기-액추에이터 통신 방식과 대조적으로, Over-the-air controller는 다중 액세스 무선채널의 중첩 속성을 활용하여 단일통신 자원에서 다수 센싱 신호의 통신 및 컴퓨팅을 완료한다. 따라서 제안된 기법은 전용 제어기가 필요하지 않은 단순한 네트워크 구조로 피드백 지연시간 및 무선 자원 사용률을 개선시킬 수 있다.

전자기 구동 유영 마이크로로봇 (Swimming Microrobot Actuated by External Magnetic Field)

  • The various electromagnetic based actuation(EMA) methods have been proposed for actuating microrobot. The advantage of EMA is that it can provide wireless driving to microrobot. In this reason a lot of researchers have been focusing on the EMA driven microrobot. This paper proposed a swimming microrobot driven by external alternating magnet field which is generated by two pairs of Helmholtz coils. The microrobot has a fish-like shape and consists of a buoyant robot body, a permanent magnet, and a fin. The fin is directly linked to the permanent magnet and the magnet is swung by the alternating magnet field, which makes the propulsion and steering power of the robot. In this paper, firstly, we designed the locomotive mechanism of the microrobot boy EMA. Secondly, we set up the control system. Finally, we demonstrated the swimming robot and evaluated the performance of the microrobot by the experiments.

  • 본 논문은 시간 제약 조건을 갖는 컨텍스트(상황)에 대한 분산적 탐지 기법(PROCON)을 제안한다. 수집한 데이터를 베이스 스테이션으로 모아 컨텍스트의 발생 여부를 결정하는 기존의 중앙집중 기법과 달리 PROCON은 네트워크 내에서 능동적, 분산적 방식으로 센서 노드 간의 협업을 통하여 컨텍스트를 결정한다. 따라서, 컨텍스트의 발생여부 탐지와 이에 대한 대응(Actuation)이 베이스 스테이션에 독립적으로 네트워크 내에서 모두 이루어진다. 본 논문은 다양한 상황구성에 대한 시뮬레이션을 통해 PROCON의 분산 상황방식이 기존의 중앙집중 방식에 비해 상당한 에너지 절약과 서비스 신뢰성(reliability) 향상을 가져온다는 것을 보인다.

  • A low voltage operated piezoelectric RF MEMS in-line switch has been realized by using silicon bulk micromachining technologies for advanced mobile/wireless applications. The developed RF MEMS in-line switches were comprised of four piezoelectric cantilever actuators with an Au contact metal electrode and a suspended Au signal transmission line above the silicon substrate. The measured operation dc bias voltages were ranged from 2.5 to 4 volts by varying the thickness and the length of the piezoelectric cantilever actuators, which are well agreed with the simulation results. The measured isolation and insertion loss of the switch with series configuration were -43dB and -0.21dB (including parasitic effects of the silicon substrate) at a frequency of 2GHz and an actuation voltage of 3 volts.

Recently, RF Micro switches have been developed for the application to the milimeter wave system. RF Micro switches offer a substantilly higher performance than PIN diode or FET switches. In this paper, SPDT(single-pole-double-throw) switch are designed to use 10 GHz. Actuation voltage and displacement are simulated by tool.

  • In this paper, a novel tunable bandpass filter using tunable series inductors and MEMS switches for wireless LAN applications was proposed. The proposed tunable filter was fabricated using a micromachining technology and performances of the fabricated filter were estimated. The filter consists of spiral inductors, MIM capacitors and direct-contact type MEMS switches, and its frequency tunability is achieved by changing the inductance that is induced by ON/OFF actuations of the MEMS switches. The actuation voltage of the MEMS switches was 58 V, and the measured center frequencies were 2.55 GHz and 5.1 GHz, respectively. The passband insertion loss and 3-dB bandwidth were 4.2 dB and 22.5 % at 2.55 GHz, and 5.2 dB and 23.5 % at 5.1 GHz, respectively.
