With recent advances in wireless communication and low-power miniaturized biomedical sensor and semiconductor technologies, wireless body area networks (WBAN) has become an integral part of the disaster aid system. Wearable vital sign sensors can track patients' status and location, thus enhancing disaster rescue efficiency. In the past few years, most of the literatures in the area of disaster aid system based on WBAN have focused on issues concerning wireless sensor design, sensor miniaturization, energy efficiency and communication protocols. In this paper, we will give an overview of disaster aid, discuss about the types of network communication as well as outline related issues. We will emphasize on analyzing six key issues in employing the disaster aid system. Finally, we will also highlight some of the challenges that still need to be addressed in the future in order to help the disaster aid system be truly and widely accepted by the public.

With the application of wireless sensor networks in the fields of ecological observation, defense military, architecture and urban management etc., the security problem is becoming more and more serious. Characteristics and constraint conditions of wireless sensor networks such as computing power, storage space and battery have brought huge challenges to protection research. Inspired by the danger theory in biological immune system, this paper proposes an intrusion detection model for wireless sensor networks. The model abstracts expressions of antigens and antibodies in wireless sensor networks, defines meanings and functions of danger signals and danger areas, and expounds the process of intrusion detection based on the danger theory. The model realizes the distributed deployment, and there is no need to arrange an instance at each sensor node. In addition, sensor nodes trigger danger signals according to their own environmental information, and do not need to communicate with other nodes, which saves resources. When danger is perceived, the model acquires the global knowledge through node cooperation, and can perform more accurate real-time intrusion detection. In this paper, the performance of the model is analyzed including complexity and efficiency, and experimental results show that the model has good detection performance and reduces energy consumption.
This paper describes a real time reliable monitoring method and analysis system using wrist type oximeter for ubiquitous healthcare service based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Photoplethysmograph(PPG) is simple and cost effective technique to measure blood volume change. In order to obtain and monitor physiological body signals continuously, a small size and low power consumption wrist type oximeter is designed for the measurement of oxygen saturation of a patient unobtrusively. The measured data is transferred to a central PC or server computer by using wireless sensor nodes in wireless sensor network for storage and analysis purposes. LabVIEW server program is designed to monitor stress indicator from heart rate variability(HRV) and process the measured PPG to accelerated plethysmograph(APG) by appling second order derivatives in server PC. These experimental results demonstrate that APG can precisely describe the features of an individual's PPG and be used as estimation of vascular elasticity for blood circulation.
To match the requirements of heterogeneous mobile devices, video objects may be transcoded, which requires considerable CPU resources. Alternatively, multiple versions of the same video may be stored on servers, but this requires a lot of disk space. We formulate the trade-off between the versions that are stored on disk and the need for transcoding. We propose an optimal solution to this formulation based on dynamic programming. Experiments show that our scheme allows up to 68% more clients to be admitted than conventional schemes when a reasonable amount of storage is available.

In wireless sensor networks, data dissemination is based on data-centric routing that well matches the publish/subscribe communication paradigm. The publish/subscribe paradigm requires decoupling properties: space, time, and synchronization decoupling. For large-scale applications, the three decoupling properties provide scalability and robust communication. However, existing data dissemination schemes for wireless sensor networks do not achieve full decoupling. Therefore, we propose a novel data dissemination scheme that fully accomplishes the three decoupling, called ARBIETER. ARBITER constructs an independent network structure as a logical software bus. Information interworking between publishers and subscribers is indirectly and asynchronously performed via the network structure. ARBITER also manages storage and mapping of queries and data on the structure because of supporting different time connection of publishers and subscribers. Our simulation proves ARBITER show better performance in terms of scalability, network robustness, data responsibility, mobility support, and energy efficiency.
Onions are a significant crop in Korea, and cultivation is increasing every year along with high demand. Onions are planted in the fall and mainly harvested in June, the rainy season, therefore, physiological changes in onion bulbs during long-term storage might have happened. Onions are stored in cold room and at adequate relative humidity to avoid quality loss. In this study, bio-yield stress and weight loss were measured as the quality parameters of net packaged onions during 10 weeks of storage, and the storage environmental conditions are monitored using sensor networks systems. Quality estimation of net packaged onion during storage was performed using the storage environmental condition data through machine learning approaches. Among the suggested estimation models, support vector regression method showed the best accuracy for the quality estimation of net packaged onions.
Advances in wireless sensor network (WSN) technology have enabled small and low-cost sensors with the capability of sensing various types of physical and environmental conditions, data processing, and wireless communication. In the WSN, the sensor nodes have a limited transmission range and their processing and storage capabilities as well as their energy resources are limited. A triple umpiring system has already been proved for its better performance in WSNs. The clustering technique is effective in prolonging the lifetime of the WSN. In this study, we have modified the ad-hoc on demand distance vector routing by incorporating signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) based dynamic clustering. The proposed scheme, which is an efficient and secure routing protocol for wireless sensor networks through SNR-based dynamic clustering (ESRPSDC) mechanisms, can partition the nodes into clusters and select the cluster head (CH) among the nodes based on the energy, and non CH nodes join with a specific CH based on the SNR values. Error recovery has been implemented during the inter-cluster routing in order to avoid end-to-end error recovery. Security has been achieved by isolating the malicious nodes using sink-based routing pattern analysis. Extensive investigation studies using a global mobile simulator have shown that this hybrid ESRP significantly improves the energy efficiency and packet reception rate as compared with the SNR unaware routing algorithms such as the low energy aware adaptive clustering hierarchy and power efficient gathering in sensor information systems.
The data centric storage (DCS) scheme is one of representative methods to efficiently store and maintain data generated in wireless sensor networks. In the DCS schemes, each node has the specified data range for storing data. This feature is highly vulnerable to the faults of nodes. In this paper, we propose a new recovery scheme for the lost data caused by the faults of nodes in DCS environments. The proposed scheme improves the accuracy of query results by recovering the lost data using the spatial continuity of physical data. To show the superiority of our proposed scheme, we simulate it in the DCS environments with the faults of nodes. In the result, our proposed scheme improves the accuracy by about 28% through about 2.5% additional energy consumption over the existing scheme.
In this paper, we established ZIGBEE home network and combined smart-grid and u-Healthcare system. We assisted for amount of electricity management of household by interlocking home devices of wireless sensor, PLC modem, DCU and realized smart grid and u-Healthcare at the same time by verifying body heat, pulse, blood pressure change and proceeded living body signal by using SVM algorithm and variety of ZIGBEE network channel and enabled it to check real-time through IHD which is developed by user interface. In addition, we minimized the rate of energy consumption of each sensor node when living body signal is processed and realized Query Processor which is able to optimize accuracy and speed of query. We were able to check the result that is accuracy of classification 0.848 which is less accounting for average 17.9% of storage more than the real input data by using Mjoin, multiple query process and SVM algorithm.

Advances in electronic and computer technologies have paved the way for the proliferation of WSN(wireless sensor networks). Accordingly, necessity of anti-collusion and authentication technology is increasing on the sensor network system. Some of the algorithm developed for the anti-collision sensor network can be easily adopted to wireless sensor network platforms and in the same time they can meet the requirements for sensor networks like: simple parallel distributed computation, distributed storage, data robustness and auto-classification of sensor readings. To achieve security in wireless sensor networks, it is important to be able to establish safely channel among sensor nodes. In this paper, we proposed the USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) channel establishment algorithm for sensor's authentication and anti-collision. Two different data aggregation architectures will be presented, with algorithms which use wavelet filter to establish channels among sensor nodes and BIBD (Balanced Incomplete Block Design) which use anti-collision methods of the sensors. As a result, the proposed algorithm based on BIBD and wavelet filter was made for 98% collision detection rate on the ideal environment.
