Possibility of the remote eavesdropping through window glass is investigated using a laser sensor. Various thicknesses and types of glass windows are excited by maximum length sequency (MLS) signal and the vibration sound is detected by a laser doppler vibrometer. Intelligibility of the detected sound is evaluated using the speech transmission index (STI), which is based on the modulation transfer function (MTF). In order to identify the disturbing effect, different level of disturbing wave is generated by an outside speaker and a window shaker attached on the glass window. On the different thickness of glass windows, decrease effect of the speech intelligibility is analysed.
This paper considers the inbound and outbound truck scheduling problem in a cross docking terminal. The unloading process from inbound trucks and loading process to outbound trucks are assumed to be performed within a time window. If some items are not able to be loaded to their scheduled outbound trucks within the time window, they are stored in the terminal and shipped using the truck visiting the next time window. The objective of this paper is to schedule inbound and outbound trucks to minimize the number of items unable to ship within the time window. A mathematical model for an optimal solution is derived, and a rule-based local search heuristic algorithm and genetic algorithm (GA) are proposed. The performance of the algorithms are evaluated using randomly generated several examples.
The purpose of this study is to improve energy efficiency of windows in office buildings through the evaluation of their heating, cooling and illumination load. Energy efficiency is influenced by window size which is determined at the early stage of building design. The process of this study is as follows. First, energy performance is analysed according to the various rates of windows through computer simulation (ECOTECT). Then, the annual heating, cooling and illuminating loads according to the different window sizes are compared one another. Results indicated that the optimal window size considering energy efficiency is 50% of the surface area. When the window size is 50% of the surface area, annual maintenance expense is also smallest. Since the cost of cooling is larger than that of heating, too low indoor air temperature in summer is unfavorable based on the reasonable annual maintenance expenses.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the 24 mail center's efficiency and productivity changes from first quarter to fourth quarter of 2008 using window analysis and Malmquist productivity index. Row views of window analysis results make it possible to determine trends and/or observed behavior with the same data set, and column views to examine the stability of results across different data sets. Malmquist productivity indexes greater than unity translate into improvements in productivity, and less than unity mean deterioration in performance over time. The results of this study suggest that DEA models under dynamic situations such as window analysis and Malmquist productivity index enable us to comprehend the efficiency and productivity changes over time and to show the direction of improvements.

This paper reports a sliding window filtering approach for ground moving targets with cross-correlated sensor noise and uncertainty. In addition, the effect of uncertain parameters during a tracking error on the model performance is considered. A distributed fusion sliding window filter is also proposed. The distributed fusion filtering algorithm represents the optimal linear combination of local filters under the minimum mean-square error criterion. The derivation of the error cross-covariances between the local sliding window filters is the key to the proposed method. Simulation results of the motion of the ground moving target a demonstrate high accuracy and computational efficiency of the distributed fusion sliding window filter.
This study compared the fire safety standards for windows of Korea, the U.S. and Japan to prevent fire expansion through exterior wall openings, and conducted experiments using PVC and aluminum window frames, which are widely used in Korea. The experiment is KS F 2845 which combines frames of the same thickness and area with single-window form and 1 hour fire resistance glass with 8T thickness. Experiments showed that the PVC window was about 9 minutes and the aluminum window was about 26 minutes. However, in Korea, there are no test standards for windows installed at the opening of the exterior wall. In addition, fire safety standards for windows shall be established along with the designation of fire prevention zones.
The hierarchical recursive local-correlation PIV algorithm with CBC (correlation based correction) method was employed to increase the spatial resolution of PIV results and to reduce error vectors. The performance of this new PIV algorithm was tested using synthetic images, PIV standard images of Visualization Society of Japan, real flows including ventilation flow inside a vehicle passenger compartment and wake behind a circular cylinder with riblet surface. As a result, most spurious vectors were suppressed by employing the CBC method, the hierarchical recursive correlation algorithm improved the sub-pixel accuracy of PIV results by decreasing the interrogation window size and Increased spatial resolution significantly. However, with recursively decreasing of interrogation window size, the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) in the correlation plane was decreased and number of spurious vectors was increased. Therefore, compromised determination of optimal interrogation window size is required for given flow images, the performance of recursive algorithm is also discussed from a viewpoint of recovery ratio and error ratio in the paper.
Recently, Energy savings in buildings has received much attention in response to the increased needs for global warming and better comforts of the occupants in apartment housing. This study proposes the method which uses the sun control window film to reduce the cooling load and heating load improving the thermal performance of the building and it improves an energy efficiency. The film which used in actual measurement has a low shading coefficient and a solar energy transmission. so we measured the surface temperature of the triple Low-e glazing system used and inside temperature according to the change of outside temperature and solar energy to study thermal performance evaluation. As a result, it was helpful to use window film insulation to reduce inside temperature in summer and to keep room warm in winter.
Indoor particulate matter(PM) is a carcinogen and needs to be removed and managed. It is generally reduced and removed through ventilation and filtration. Owing to the recent occurrence of high-concentration fine dust and yellow dust in the atmosphere, however, it is difficult to expect the purification of indoor air through the simple introduction of the outside air. For residential buildings, in particular, they are highly dependent on natural ventilation but the lack of natural ventilation is worsening because concerns over the inflow of external pollutants are increasing. Therefore, this study designed and manufactured a window ventilation system that does not require a duct to improve the maintenance and management problems of general ventilation system, and constructed indoor PM concentration change data through performance evaluation.
The lightshelf system, a horizontal shading and light redirect device, should improve the visual environment by optimal light distributions and intense illumination levels of a interior. This study aims to evaluate the daylighting performance of window integrated lightshelf systems by computer simulations. For the study, the standard office plan is analyzed through the field surveys. And then, the various lightshelf types attached window systems are picked out from existed research results. The max, minimum and average illuminance levels of interiors and illuminance distributions are evaluated by Lightsacpe 3.2 programs based on the installing height, shape type and moving angle of lightshelfs. As results, it is suggested that the optimum lightshelf shapes are the height 1.8m and the width 600mm. Also, in mixed lightshelf, the outside width 600mm, inside width 400 are efficient on indoor daylighting performance.
