A point-to-mesh type discharge system, utilizing a water-pen point as a corona discharge electrode and a mesh as an ion induction electrode, has been proposed, and the effect of the water-pen point electrode of the discharge system to the ionic wind velocity and generation yield was investigated. It was observed that the proposed discharge system with the water-pen point electrode can generate a higher ionic wind velocity as compared with that of the metal point electrode. As a result, the peak ionic wind velocities of 2.61 and 4.05 m/s for the positive and negative corona discharges of the proposed discharge system can be obtained, which are 1.39 and 1.15 times higher than those of the metal point electrode with same design. The ionic wind generation yield of 4.72 m/s/W of the discharge system with the water-pen point electrode was obtained for the positive corona, which was 3.66 times higher than that of the metal point electrode. This enhancement may be due to the effect of the water-pen point electrode.

The objectives of this paper were to evaluate the wind flow behind the livestock ventilation fan for small-scale wind power generation and to make flow profiles of imaginary ventilation fan for future simulation works. The field experiments using typical 50-inch fan indicated that the wind flow behind the ventilation fan had a good possibility of power generation with its high and steady wind speeds up to a distance of 2 m. The expected electricity yield was almost 101~369 W with a small (0.8 m radius) wind turbine. The decline of ventilation fan performance caused by the obstacle was also not significant with about 4 % from a distance of 2 m. The flow profiles for the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was created by combining the direction vectors analyzed from tuft visualization test and the flow predicted by the rotating fan modeling. The flow profiles are expected to provide an efficient saving of computational time and cost to design a better wind turbine system in future works.

Recently, researches related to the green energy generation systems have increased significantly. Among them wind turbines are the most spread practical green energy generation systems. In order to enhance the power generation capacity of the wind turbine blade, the length of wind turbine blade has increased. It might cause undesirable excessive dynamic loads. Therefore dynamic characteristics of a wind turbine blade system should be identified for a safe design of the system. In this study, the equations of motion of a wind turbine blade system undergoing gravitational force are derived considering wind force and pitch angle. Effects of wind speed, variation of pitch angle of the wind turbine blade, rotating speed, and the blade length on its stability characteristics are investigated.

As a first step to develop the hybrid power generation system, on this study, the time-variable resources of wind and solar radiation of Yeongdo, Busan, Korea had been measured during June and July 2013. And the quantity of generated wind power and solar photovoltaic had also been measured during the same period. It is found out that the wind mainly flew from southwest at the average speed of 2 m/s during 2 months. And it is clear that, because of the low wind velocity, the wind quality to generate the power seems not enough at this area. Meanwhile solar radiation was measured every daytime (6:00~19:00) and the peak solar radiation occurred around 12:00~14:00. And it is clear that the time-based variations of quantity of generated power were proportional to the variations of these resources, respectively. As a proposal, these 2 natural energies can be combined as resources of a hybrid system, because these 2 patterns are not overlapped so much on time base.

This paper reports the performance of a CB (Circuit Breaker) and converter for the battery operated Wind-PV (Photovoltaic) system. For this purpose, a fluctuating reduction controller for an electric generation hybrid (wind+PV) system is suggested. The method operates a wind turbine, PV, CB, converter and battery. Integration of wind and PV sources, which are generally complementary, usually reduce the capacity of the battery. Also, CB controls the overvoltage of the generation system. The objective is to control the operation of the converter and the CB and reduce power fluctuation. This paper includes discussion on system performance, power quality, fluctuation and effect of the randomness of the wind.

This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations, starting of large induction motor and three-phase fault in the system, and investigates voltage variations of the system for disturbances. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, terminal voltage, system voltage, fault current, and real/reactive power output, etc. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations, starting of a large induction motor causes a voltage sag due to a large starting current, and a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.

In this study, we propose a wind power generation prediction system that applies machine learning and data mining to predict wind power generation. This system increases the utilization rate of new and renewable energy sources. For time-series data, the data set was established by measuring wind speed, wind generation, and environmental factors influencing the wind speed. The data set was pre-processed so that it could be applied appropriately to the model. The prediction system applied the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) to the data mining process and then used the LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) to learn and make predictions. The preciseness of the proposed system is verified by comparing the prediction data with the actual data, according to the presence or absence of data mining in the model of the prediction system.

In this experimental study for the current growing offshore wind, a wind tunnel test was conducted to examine the performance of the vertical-type cross-flow wind turbine power generation system. Due to the limited size of the test section of the wind tunnel, the inlet guide vane of the original wind power generation was scaled down to about 1/5 and the turbine impeller diameter was also reduced to 1/2 of the prototype impeller. The number of the impeller blade is another important parameter to the output power of the wind power generation system and the number was varied 8 and 16. From the analysis of the experimental result, the output brake power of the model wind turbine was measured as 278watts with the 16-blade at 12 m/s of the rated wind speed and the rated brake power of the prototype wind turbine is calculated to 3.9kW at the rated operating condition.
Load flow and short circuit fault transients of a power distribution system with wind turbines as dispersed generation units is presented. Usage of renewable energies such as wind is already a small part of total installed power system in medium and low voltage networks. In this paper, a radial power distribution system with wind turbines is simulated using DIgSILENT PowerFactory software for their influence on load flow and short circuit fault transients. Short fault occurring in dispersed generation systems causes some problems for the system and costumers such as fault level increase or the problems of sudden fluctuations in the current, voltage, power and torque of the double fed induction machine utilized in the wind turbines which have been studied and investigated.
This study suggests a modeling of grid-connected wind power generation system that has induction generator, and aims to perform simulations for outputs by the variation of actual wind speed and for fault current of wind generation system by the transformer winding connection. This study is implemented by matlab&simulink. The simulation shall be performed by assuming single line to ground fault generated in the system. Generator power, rotor speed, terminal voltage, system voltage, and fault current shall be observed following the performance of simulation. The fault current change will be dealt through the simulation results for fault current of wind generation system following the grid-connected transformer winding connection and the simulation result by the transformer neutral ground method.
