  • This paper proposes a novel probabilistic load flow model for power systems integrated with large-scale wind power, which considers the multi-time scale dispatching features. The ramp limitations of the units and the steady-state security constraints of the network have been comprehensively considered for the entire duration of the study period; thus, the coupling of the system operation states at different time sections has been taken into account. For each time section, the automatic generation control (AGC) strategy is considered, and all variations associated with the wind power and loads are compensated by all AGC units. Cumulants and the Gram-Charlier expansion are used to solve the proposed model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated using the modified IEEE RTS 24-bus system and the modified IEEE 118-bus system.

  • In this paper, a three-phase AC-DC high step-up converter is developed for application to microscale wind-power generation systems. Such an AC-DC boost converter prossessess the property of the single-switch high step-up DC-DC structure. For power factor correction, the advanced half-stage converter is operated under the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Simulatanously, to achieve a high step-up voltage gain, the back half-stage functions in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). A high voltage gain can be obtained by use of an output-capacitor mass and a coupled inductor. Compared to the output voltage, the voltage stress is decreased on the switch. To lessen the conducting losses, a low rated voltage and small conductive resistance MOSFETs are adopted. In addition, the coupled inductor retrieves the leakage-inductor energy. The operation principle and steady-state behavior are analyzed, and a prototype hardware circuit is realized to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • The power quality of wind energy becomes more and more important in connecting wind-farms to the grid, especially weak grid. This paper presents the simulation of a wind farm of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). Flicker mitigation is performed by using PMSG as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) to regulate the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). A benefit of the measure is that integrating two function of to control the active power flow and to reduce the voltage flicker in a wind farm. Simulation results show that controlling PMSG is an effective and economic measure in reducing the flicker during continuous operation of grid connected wind turbines regardless of short circuit capacity ratio, turbulence intensity and grid impedance angle.

  • Carbon dioxide was designated as one of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Among various ways to solve the $CO_2$ emission issue, the 3rd-generation biomass (algae) production is considered as a viable method to reduce $CO_2$ in the atmosphere. In this research, we propose a design of an innovative sustainable production system by utilizing the 3rd generation biomass in the environment of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO). Existing biomass production systems depend on the solar energy and they cannot continue producing biomass at night. Electricity produced from offshore wind farms also need an efficient way to store the energy through energy storage system (ESS) or deliver it real-time through power grid, both requiring heavy investment of capital. Thus, we design an offshore grid structure harnessing LED lights to supply the necessary light energy, by using the electricity produced from the wind farm, resulting in the maximized production of biomass and efficient use of wind farm energy. The final design integrates the biomass production system enhanced by LED lights with a wind power generation. The suggested NLP model for the optimal design, implemented in GAMS, would be useful for designing improved offshore biomass production systems combined with the wind farm.

  • Wind energy is currently the fastest growing source of renewable energy used for electrical generation around world. Wind farms are adding a significant amount of electrical generation capacity. The increase in the number of wind farms has led to the need for more effective operation and maintenance procedures. Condition Monitoring System(CMS) can be used to aid plant owners in achieving these goals. Its aim is to provide operators with information regarding the health of their machines, which in turn, can help them improve operational efficiency. In this work, systematic design procedure for artificial neural network based normal behavior model which can be applied for fault detection of various devices is proposed. Furthermore, to verify the design method SCADA(Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition) data from 850KW wind turbine system installed in Beaung port were utilized.

  • Due to environmental issues such as global warming, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions has become an inevitable measure to be taken. Among others, the building sector accounts for 50% of total carbon dioxide emissions, which is significantly high. Therefore, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions of the buildings, improving the energy efficiency by utilizing wind power among renewable energy sources is recommended. In case of buildings in the planning stage, it is possible to take the load of wind power generation systems into consideration when determining installed capacity. Already completed buildings, however, should be connected to small wind electric systems according to the live loads of the buildings based on the architectural design criteria. In order to connect to a building that has already been completed, it is necessary to consider the load of the small wind electric system as well as the live load of building. In addition, we need to generate the maximum electricity possible by determining the maximum installed capacity in a small area. In this paper, we propose the method for determining maximum capacity for building integrated small wind electric systems, which takes into account the considerations associated with connecting small wind electric systems to completed buildings. This can be developed into a system linked to solar power, which makes it possible to improve the energy independence of the building. In addition, carbon dioxide reduction by improving energy efficiency is expected.

  • Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSGs) are used widely in Wind Power Generation Systems (WPGSs), and the Vienna rectifier was recently proposed to be used as the generator-side converter to rectify the AC output voltage in PMSG-based WPGS. Compared to conventional six-switch two-level PWM (2L-PWM) converters, the Vienna rectifier has several advantages, such as higher efficiency, improved total harmonic distortion, etc. The motivation behind this paper is to verify the performance of direct-driven PMSG wind turbine system based-Vienna rectifier by using a simulated direct-driven PMSG WPGS. In addition, for the purpose of reducing the reactive power loss of PMSGs, this paper proposes an induced voltage sensing scheme which can make the stator current maintain accurate synchronization with the induced voltage. Meanwhile, considering the Neutral-Point Voltage (NPV) variation in the DC-side of the Vienna rectifier, a NPV balancing control strategy is added to the control system. In addition, both the effectiveness of the proposed method and the performance of the direct-driven PMSG based-Vienna rectifier are verified by simulation and experimental results.
