Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback training for emotion regulation and brain homeostasis on anxiety about COVID-19 infection, impulsivity, anger rumination, meta-mood, and self-regulation ability of late adolescents in the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic situation. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants included 55 late adolescents in the experimental and control groups. The variables were evaluated using quantitative EEG at pre-post time points in the experimental group. The experimental groups received 10 sessions using the three-band protocol for five weeks. The collected data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, t-test and paired t-test using the SAS 9.3 program. The collected EEG data used a frequency series power spectrum analysis method through fast Fourier transform. Results: Significant differences in emotion regulation between the two groups were observed in the anxiety about COVID-19 infection (W = 585.50, p = .002), mood repair of meta-mood (W = 889.50, p = .024), self-regulation ability (t = - 5.02, p < .001), self-regulation mode (t = - 4.74, p < .001), and volitional inhibition mode (t = - 2.61, p = .012). Neurofeedback training for brain homeostasis was effected on enhanced sensory-motor rhythm (S = 177.00, p < .001) and inhibited theta (S = - 166.00, p < .001). Conclusion: The results demonstrate the potential of EEG biofeedback training as an independent nursing intervention that can markedly improve anxiety, mood-repair, and self-regulation ability for emotional distress during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This study was carried out to suggest the best statistical test which may be used to quantify the change of water quality between two groups. Traditional t-test may not be used in cases where the normality of underlying population distribution is not assured. Three non-parametric tests which are based on the relative order of the measurements, were studied to find out the applicability in water quality data analysis. The sign test is based on the sign of the deviation of the measurement from the median value, and the binomial distribution table is used. The signed rank test utilizes not only the sign but also the magnitude of the deviation. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test which is basically same as Mann-Whitney test, tests the mean difference between two independent samples which may have missing data. Among the three non-parametric tests studied, the singed rank test was found out to be applicable in the quantification of the change of water quality between two samples.

There are many situations in which the well-known tests such as log-rank test and Gehan-Wilcoxon test fail to detect the survival differences. Assuming large samples, these tests are developed asymptotically normal properties. Thus, they shall be called asymptotic tests in this paper, Several asymptotic tests sensitive to some specific types of survival differences have been recently proposed. This paper compares by simulations the test levels and the powers of the conventional asymptotic tests and their random permutation versions. Simulation studies show that the random permutation tests possess competitive powers compared to the corresponding asymptotic tests, keeping exact test levels even in the small sample case. It also provides the guidelines for choosing the valid and most powerful test under the given situation.

Purpose: This study compared nursing frequency, nursing time, and nursing intervention priorities depending on the method of neonatal induced hypothermia. Methods: We observed 15 neonatal subjects receiving therapeutic hypothermia for 3 days each. Forty-five nurses experienced with nursing neonatal patients under therapeutic hypothermia provided responses about nursing intervention priorities. Analyses with the chi-square, the Fisher exact test, the paired t-test, the Wilcoxon signed rank test, and the Wilcoxon rank-sum test were performed on the data using SAS version 9.4. Results: The frequency of nursing activities was higher for selective head therapeutic hypothermia (SHTH) than for systemic therapeutic hypothermia (STH), and nursing time was also significantly longer. In terms of nursing intervention priorities, there were priority differences in "risk for ineffective thermoregulation" and "risks for impaired skin integrity" for SHTH compared to STH. Conclusion: Since SHTH for neonatal therapeutic hypothermia requires more nursing time and frequent nursing activities than STH, STH is therefore recommended if the therapeutic efficacy is similar. Appropriate nursing personnel should be allocated for neonatal SHTH nursing. Nurses should be aware of nursing interventions for therapeutic hypothermia as the priorities are different for different methods of neonatal therapeutic hypothermia.

A number of methods have been developed to determine sample sizes in clinical trial, and most clinical trial organizations determine sample sizes based on the methods. In contrast, determining sufficient sample sizes needed for experiments using microarray chips is unsatisfactory and not widely in use. In this paper, our objective is to provide a guideline in determining sample sizes, utilizing reproducibility of real microarray data. In the reproducibility comparison, five methods for discovering differential expression are used: Fold change, Two-sample t-test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, SAM, and LPE. In order to standardize gene expression values, both MAS5 and RMA methods are considered. According to the number of repetitions, the upper 20 and 100 gene accordances are also compared. In determining sample sizes, more realistic information can be added to the existing method because of our proposed approach.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of mechanical traction applied to the knee joint on pain, knee range of motion (ROM), timed up and go (TUG) and Western Ontario and MacMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of Kellgren-Lawrence radiological rating scale II or III. Twenty three patients participated in the experiment for a period of four weeks. After baseline assessment, the patients with KOA were randomized into two groups: the traction group ($n_1=12$), which received traction with general physical therapy; and the control group ($n_2=11$), which received general physical therapy only on unilateral knee joints. Patients received interventions once a day, three times a week, for four weeks. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyze the change of dependent variances within the group during pre and post intervention. Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze the change of dependent variances as TUG and passive ROM between the two groups. Analysis of covariance was used to analyze the change of dependent variances as numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) and WOMAC score between the two groups. In Wilcoxon signed-rank test, the traction group improved significantly with regard to NPRS (p<.01), passive knee flexion ROM (p<.01), passive knee extension (p<.05), TUG (p<.01) and WOMAC scores (p<.01) after intervention for four weeks, but not for the control group. In the Mann-Whitney U test and analysis of covariance, no significant difference was seen among all the dependent variances after intervention for four weeks between the two groups. These outcomes suggest that further studies should be carried out to determine the effects of mechanical traction prior to using it for the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis.
This study examined the effect of using web-based distance program in home health education for nursing college students in COVID-19 special disaster area. The study was carried out according a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects were 49 nursing college students from K City, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The web-based distance program was conducted for 2 weeks. The data collection period was from June 1, 2020 to June 12, 2020. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS PC+ 19.0 with the Fisher' exact test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, ANCOVA with pretest value as covariate. The experimental group had significantly different in knowledge related home health nursing, perceived motivation, and learning commitment in comparison to the control group. This suggests that the web-based distance program in the COVID-19 special disaster area can be applied as a way to increase nursing students' knowledge related home health nursing, perceived motivation, and learning commitment.

With the recent recession, studies on the economy are actively being conducted throughout the industry. Based on the Small Business data registered in the Credit Guarantee Fund, we estimated the survival probability in the context of the survival analysis. We also analyzed the survival time for the construction and the other industries which are distinguished depending on the types of business and assets in the Small Business. The survival probability was estimated by using the life-table and the difference between the survival probabilities for the different types of business was described via the method of the Log-rank test and the Wilcoxon test. We found that the small business with over one billion asset has the highest survival probability and that with less than 1000 million asset showed the similar survival probability. In terms of types of business Wholesale and Retail trade industry and Services were relatively high in the survival probability than Light, Heavy, and the construction industries. Especially the construction industry showed the lowest survival probability. Most of the Small Business tend to increase in the hazard rate over time.
This study aims to identify the effect of music psychotherapy on motivation for learning in the underachieving student. The study divided nine children into two groups and placed four children in a test group and five children in a control group. After conducting a pre-test, the researcher performed music psychotherapy with the four children in the test group for about 12 weeks, twice a week, totaling 18 sessions. Quantitative data were measured in pre-and-post tests using Mann-Whitney's U-test, and the effects of the therapy were analyzed using Wilcoxon. The findings of this study were as follows. Music psychotherapy was shown to be effective for improving all types of motivation for learning in underachieving students (p < .001). This was shown by assessing improvements in the experimental group across four sub-areas of motivation for learning (p < .1), and directly measured by examining the subjects' lingual responses related to motivation for learning. These results demonstrate that music psychotherapy is effective for enhancing motivation for learning in underachieving students.
This study set out to investigate what kind of effects the consistent visual stimuli and verbal and non verbal auditory stimuli have on pain alleviation, as well as to see the influence of joint application of visual and auditory stimuli at the same time on pain alleviation, according to lightness of 50lux and 200lux, ultimately providing basic data in setting up an environment in case of treating pain. The subject were comprised of 30 male and female adults with pain in the neck and back area. The subject were treated in their pain area with Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator(TENS) 100HZ for 20 minutes in the research set where each visual, auditory, and joint visual and auditory stimuli was given. For analysis methods, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and McGill Pain Questionnaire were adopted to see the changes before and after treatment, and the electrocardiogram, systolic and diastolic pressure, number of heart rate and breathing frequence and endorphin were compared and analyzed using the Wilcoxon singed-rank test. And The Kreskal-walllis test was used to compare the two subgroups from each group. Wilcoxon singed-rank test and the Kreskal-walllis test was used to compare the two subgroups from each group. The results were as follows: 1. The group of 50lux and 200lux were compared given varying degrees of visual stimuli. The group of 200lux showed more reduction in pain points, average systolic and diastolic pressure and average endorphin. 2. The group of verbal and non verbal were compared given varying degrees of auditory stimuli. The group of non-verbal showed more reduction in average systolic and diastolic pressure. 3. The group of 200lux+verbal and 200lux+non verbal were compared given varying degrees of joint visual and auditory stimuli. There was found a statistical significance(p<0.05) in endorphin between the two groups, with more endorphin reduction for 200lux+non verbal group. And there was a statistically significant reduction in VAS and McGill before and after the treatment between the two groups.
