  • In this study, measurement of thermal conductivity of multilayer thin dielectric film has been conducted via differential $3\omega$ method. Also, verification of differential $3\omega$ method has been accomplished with various proposed criteria. The target film for the measurement is 300 nm thick silicon dioxide which is covered with upper protective layer of various thicknesses. The upper protective layer is inserted between the target film and the heater line for purpose of electrical insulator or anti-oxidation barrier since the target film may be a good electrical conductor or a well-oxidizing material. Since the verification of differential $3\omega$ method has not been conducted yet, we have shown that the measurement of thermal conductivity of thin films with upper protective layer via differential $3\omega$ method is verified to be reliable as long as the proposed preconditions of the samples are satisfied. Experimental results show that the experimental errors tend to increase with aspect ratio between thickness of the upper protective layer and width of the heater line due to heat spreading effect.

  • More than one longitudinal web stiffener may be economical in the design of plate girders that have considerably high width-to-thickness ratio of webs. In this study, the bend-buckling strength of relatively deep webs with two horizontal lines of flat plate-shaped single-sided stiffeners was numerically investigated. Linear eigenvalue buckling analyses were conducted for specially selected hypothetical models of stiffened web panels, in which top and bottom junctions of a web with flanges were assumed to have simply supported boundary conditions. Major parameters in the analyses were the locations of two longitudinal stiffeners, stress ratios in the web, slenderness ratios and aspect ratios of web panels. Based on the application of assumptions on the combined locations of the two longitudinal web stiffeners, simplified equations were proposed for the bend-buckling coefficients and compared to the case of one longitudinal stiffener. It was found that bend-buckling coefficients can be doubled by adopting two longitudinal stiffeners instead of one longitudinal stiffener. For practical design purposes, additional equations were proposed for the required bending rigidity of the longitudinal stiffeners arranged in two horizontal lines on a web.

  • Thin-walled concrete-filled U-shaped steel beams have been recently used in building structures for shortening the construction period and cost efficiency of structural members. In this study, the flexural and shear behavior of newly developed bolt-connected U-shaped steel beams filled with concrete was experimentally evaluated considering load conditions for positive and negative moments, and types of U-shaped steel sections. Because the cross sections are not symmetrical about a horizontal axis, compressive buckling of bottom plates was observed along with web shear buckling under negative moment loading, while the slab concrete under compression was crushed under a positive moment loading. Despite such different shear failure modes depending on load conditions, the shear strength of the composite beams can be conservatively predicted using AISC 360-16 and Eurocode 4. Although the shear contribution of filled concrete is neglected according to the current design codes, the shear capacity of the steel web considering the shear buckling coefficient corresponding to the web width-to-thickness ratio reasonably predicts the test results. In addition, for deep composite beams, the longitudinal lips of a U-shaped steel section anchored into filled concrete can improve the interfacial bond between steel and concrete, thereby enhancing the shear contribution of the steel web.

  • The steel-plate concrete composite beam is composed of a steel plate, concrete and shear connector to combine two inhomogeneous materials. In general, the steel plate is assembled by welding an existing composite beam. In this study, the SPC beam was composed of folding steel plates and concrete, without a headed stud. The folding steel plate was assembled by a high strength bolt instead of welding. To improve the workability in a field construction, a hat-shaped cap was attached to the junction with a slab. Monotonic load testing under two points was conducted under displacement control mode to analyze the flexural strength of the SPC beam using a cap as the shear connector. Five specimens with shear connector types, protrusion length, and different thickness of steel plates were constructed and tested. The experimental results were analyzed through the relationship between the shear strength ratio and flexural strength in KBC 2009. The test results showed a shear strength ratio of more than 40 %. In the case of using a cap-like specimen as the shear connector, the flexural strength was 70% of the value calculated as a fully composite beam. In addition, the cap showed a smaller shear strength than the stud, but the cap served as a shear connection. When the thickness of the steel plate was taken as a variable, the steel plate exhibited a bending strength of approximately 70% compared to a fully formed steel plate, and exhibited similar deformation performance. Local buckling occurred due to incomplete composite behavior, but local buckling occurred at a 5% higher strength for a relatively thick steel plate. The buckling width also decreased by 15%.

  • This study was carried out to improve utility value as soybean genetic resources and to obtain basic information for color-soybean breeding. The 146 local color soybean lines collected in Kyongbuk province were investigated major agronomic characteristics. Seed coat-color showed seven different types which were black, white mottled on black, white mottled on brown, black saddle on green, green, raddish brown and brown. Major color types were black and green colors. The 90 percent of collected lines were purple in flower color. The 86 lines were green in color of cotyledonary part and 64 lines yellow. Great variations were observed in days to flowering and days from flowering to maturity, 51 to 81 days and 75 to 103 days, respectively. But days to maturity was 150 to 159 days and had smaller variation than days to flowering and days from flowering to maturity in all lines except those with white mottled on black (123 days). The 100 seed weight ranged below 10g to over 36g. Black seed color with green embryo seed was heavier seed weight than black seed color with yellow embryo seed. Seed shape of all collected lines was ellipsodial and average ratio of length: width: thickness of seed was 1:0.87:0.69. Positive correlation coeffieients were obtained among seed length, width, thickness and 100 seed weight.

  • In recent years, there has been an upsurge for the usage of buckling restrained braces (BRB) rather than ordinary braces, as they have evidently performed better. If the overall brace buckling is ignored, BRBs are proven to have higher energy absorption capacity and flexibility. This article aims to deliberate an economically efficient yet adequate type of all-steel BRB, comprised of the main components as in traditional ones, such as : (1) a steel core that holds all axial forces and (2) a steel restrainer tube that hinders buckling to occurr in the core; there is a more practical detailing in the BRB system due to the elimination of a filling mortar. An investigation has been conducted for the proposed rectangular-tube core BRB and it is hysteric behavioral results have been compared to previous researches conducted on a structure containing a similar plate core profile that has the same cross-sectional area in its core. A loss of strength is known to occur in the BRB when the limiting condition of local buckling is not satisfied, thus causing instability. This typically occurs when the thickness of the restrainer tube's wall is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the core plate or its width. In this study, a parametric investigation for BRBs with different formations has been performed to verify the effect of the design parameters such as different core section profiles, restraining member width to thickness ratio and relative cross-sectional area of the core to restrainer, on buckling load evaluation. The proposed BRB investigation results have also been presented and compared to past BRB researches with a plate profile as the core section, and the advantages and disadvantages of this configuration have been discussed, and it is concluded that BRBs with tubular core section exhibit a better seismic performance than the ones with a plate core profile.

  • Column-to-beam pinned connections can cause local moment to the web of a steel tube due to the distance of eccentricity between the row of bolts and the column flange, which possibility deteriorates the load capacity of column. In this study, a square hollow section tubular used finite element analysis of a square hollow section tubular column was carried out, and the column width and thickness, existence and non-existence of internal reinforcement, and existence and non-existence of compressive force were taken as variables to examine the load capacity deterioration of a square column caused by moment. To guarantee the reliability of the finite element results, some specimens were fabricated and tested. The yield line method was applied to suggest the strength formulas of the square tubular column to the beam pinned connections. Based on the study results, the column strength the moment of the square hollow section tubular column to the beam pined connections improved with the increase in the w to strength limitations, a no-reinforcement type of square hollow section tubular column was proposed, and if the limitation values were not satisfied, the reinforcement of the internal column was made mandatory. Therefore, the horizontal -reinforcement type considered the strength increase, and the fabrication of the square hollow section tubular column was ar column that considered its load capacity with the moment for the no-reinforcement and the horizontal-reinforcement types.

  • In this study, the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of bamboo fiber-based composites (BFBCs) were studied at two pressing manufacturing processes, i.e., hot- and cold- pressing, and were compared with three density parameters (1.0, 1.1, and $1.2kg/m^3$). Width swelling ratio (WSR), thickness swelling ratio (TSR), and water absorption ratio (WAR) were calculated for water immersions of 4 and 28 h. WSR, TSR, and WAR for specimens immersed for 28 h were higher than those for 4 h treatment, which shows that the immersion time has a significant influence on the dimensional stabilities of BFBCs. Moreover, the positive linear relations between density and dimensional were observed at both the pressing ways, indicating that the WSR, TSR, and WAR decreased with an increase in the density of BFBCs. The compressive strength, shear strength, modulus of rupture (MOR), and modulus of elasticity (MOE) were determined. The compressive strength, MOR, and MOE of hot-pressed specimens were significantly higher than those for the cold-pressed specimens, which are also directly proportional to density. Moreover, the samples with the highest density of $1.2kg/m^3$ performed high values on mechanical properties in both the manufacturing methods.

  • The circular and flat heat pipe were experimentally investigated by using neutron imaging technique. This experimental study was performed at the DINGO of OPAL research reactor, Australia. The diameter of the circular heat pipe is 10 mm and the dimension of flat is $10(width){\times}3(thickness)mm2$, respectively. We used the distilled water as a coolant. The coolant distributions and 2-phase flow patterns were measured under heating conditions. Experimental results show that neutron imaging technique is a good tool to visualize the 2-phase flow and phenomena in the heat pipe. The coolant distributions and 2-phase flow patterns depend on installation posture of the heat pipe and volume ratio of the coolant. Finally, it was discussed to calculate the void fraction by neutron imaging technique.

  • In order to obtain the basic data on the optimum conditions of electroforming process for fabricating the micro wiring pattern for plate type micro- motor core, characteristics of plating bath and properties of deposits were studied with various copper plating baths which contain sulfate, fluoborate, pyrophosphate and cyanide salt, respectively. Cathodic polarization, throwing power, internal stress, texture and surface morphology of deposits were observed. Throwing power of plating solution is deeply related to the polarization curves and the values are in the range of +20∼20%. The order of values ate as follows- pyrophosphate, cyanide, sulfate and fluoborate bath. Internal stresses of deposits are tensile in all of the copper plating bath. Thickness of the deposits plated at the center of holes has the highest value in the pyrophosphate bath and K factor, ratio of height and width of deposit, is 1.44. It was confirmed that the pyrophosphate bath was the best one for the electroforming of wire pattern.
