  • In the present paper I described the results of the observations made on the visual characteristics such as the annual ring width and summerwood percentage of Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. grown at out university forest. The results of the study are as follows: Characteristics of annual ring width and summerwood percentage 1. The range of dispersion of annual ring width and summerwood percentage are respectively 0.5-6.5mm and 5-50% on the normal wood and its arithmetic mean values are each 3.0mm and 24% on all sample trees. 2. The values of annual ring width of heart wood are larger than that of sapwood but on the contrary the values of summerwood percentage of heartwood are smaller than that of sapwood. On the other hand variations of these values are distingushed on the heartwood. 3. The values of annual ring width due to the parts of stem with crown. with clear length and at bottom showed that the largest values are given at the parts of stem with crown. But on the contrary the summerwood percentage values are largest at the parts of stem at bottom on all sample trees. 4. The values of annual ring width and summerwood percentage depending on the stand sides are not obvious. Horizontal and vertical variations of annual ring width and summerwood percentage 5. It was recognized that horizontal (radial direction) variations of annual ring width and summerwood percentage indicated two different patterns (the region of large fluctuation and that of small fluctuation) in a tree stem. These boundaries are seemed to appear at the parts of 12-15 annual rings from pith. 6. According to the increase of height in tree the values of annual ring width increase but the values of summerwood percentage gradually decrease. 7. But vertical variations of annual ring width and summerwood percentage on the sapwood are divided into two different parts (region of increased or decreased upwards and that of remained constant in successive height) in a tree stem and these limits are seemed to appear at the 7m of height in trees. Relations between annual ring width and summerwood percentage 8. The modes of summerwood percentage related with annual ring width are seemed to appear almost in the definite range (10-25%). 9. The relations between annual ring width and summerwood percentage show a highly negatine correlation on all sample trees.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the harvesting performance of a prototype small combine for buckwheat and adlay. Methods: The prototype small combine was designed and constructed. Its ratio of grain loss, ratio of output components in the grain outlet, and field capacity for harvesting buckwheat and adlay were analyzed through field tests. Results: The prototype small combine required a working width of about 0.6 to 0.7 m to harvest buckwheat. The maximum travel speed was about 0.36 m/. The total ratio of grain loss was about 21.6%, which consisted of 8.8% at the header and 12.8% at the dust outlet. The grain and the material other than grain (MOG) ratios at the grain outlet were 94.1% and 5.9% respectively. In the case of adlay harvest, the maximum working width was about 1.2 m, that is, two rows. The range of maximum travel speed was about 0.45 to 0.46 m/s. When adlay was harvested in one row, the total ratio of grain loss ranged from 36.3 to 42.8% according to the cutting height. The cutting height of 30 cm resulted in a higher total ratio of grain loss than 60 cm and 90 cm. When the cutting height was 60 cm, there was no significant change in the total ratio of grain loss according to the number of working rows and the stage of the primary transmission shift. The total ratio of grain loss ranged from 35.2 to 37.7%. The grain and the MOG ratios at the grain outlet ranged from 93.1 to 95.8% and from 4.2 to 6.9%, respectively. No significant difference was observed in relation to cutting height, number of working rows, and the stage of the primary transmission shift. Conclusions: The prototype small combine for harvesting miscellaneous cereal crops showed good potential for the efficient harvesting of buckwheat and adlay. However, to improve the harvesting performance, there seems to be a need to develop new crop varieties suitable for machine-based harvesting and improve the transmissions, reels, separation/cleaning systems.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of skill level and width between feet on kinematic and kinetic variables during jump rope single under with both feet. Method: Fifteen subjects in the skilled group (age: $10.85{\pm}0.40yrs$, height: $142.13{\pm}5.41cm$, weight: $36.97{\pm}6.65kg$) and 15 subjects in the unskilled group (age: $10.85{\pm}0.40yrs$, height: $143.31{\pm}5.54cm$, weight: $40.81{\pm}10.39kg$) participated in this study. Results: Participants in the skilled group minimized the anteroposterior displacement of their center of mass by modifying the width between their feet and decreased the range of motion (ROM) of their trunk in the sagittal plane. The preferred width during the jump rope decreased by 5.61~6.11 cm (32~37%) in comparison to width during static standing. The induced width was increased by 16.44~16.67 cm (82~85%), regardless of skill level. The kinematic variables of the left and right legs of members of the unskilled group were significantly different from those of members in the skilled group regarding the ROM of the hip, knee, and ankle joint. Otherwise, the members of the skilled group were consistent in terms of the kinematic variables of the right and left legs. Conclusion: The preferred width between feet during the jump rope was found to be beneficial for maintaining dynamic stability. The unskilled group exhibited asymmetry in left and right motion within the ranges of motion of the ankle, knee, and hip joints, regardless of the width. Therefore, long-term accurate jump rope motions will contribute to an improvement in the left and right imbalances of the entire body.

  • This research progressed space evaluation test with 3D simulation for exterior space of detached housing area among the Seoul spaces of child sex offense in 2010. Based on changing analysis on natural surveillance by spatial changes of each physical element, the purpose is to suggest effective construction planning measure for preventing child sex offense. The results of research are as follows. First, natural surveillance of space's height differences and width differences were compared and analyzed. As the result, footpath shows that stairs of slope didn't make lots of effects on visual block, not block of spatial moving, because of the difference of stair height. Also, in case of parking space, visual connection with footpath is expanded when designing pilotis rather than heightening floor height, so activities of exterior people could be seen more easily. Therefore, natural surveillance was higher. Second, natural surveillance of architectural elements by changes of footpath' width was compared and analyzed. As the result, openness of footpath should be secured rather than openness of architectural element. And, planning autonomy of architectural form could be more expanded when securing openness of footpath.

  • Objective : To compare the morphometry of subaxial cervical spine between cerebral palsy (CP) and normal control. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 72 patients with CP, as well as 72 patients from normal population. The two groups were matched for age, sex, and body mass index. Pedicle, lateral mass (LM), and vertebral foramen were evaluated using computed tomography (CT) imaging. Pedicle diameter, LM height, thickness, width and vertebral foramen asymmetry (VFA) were measured and compared between the two groups. Cervical dynamic motion, disc and facet joint degeneration were investigated. Additionally, we compared the morphology of LM between convex side and concave side with cervical scoliotic CP patients. Results : LM height was smaller in CP group. LM thickness and width were larger in CP group at mid-cervical level. In 40 CP patients with cervical scoliosis, there were no height and width differences between convex and concave side. Pedicle outer diameter was not statistically different between two groups. Pedicle inner diameter was significantly smaller in CP group. Pedicle sclerosis was more frequent in CP patients. VFA was larger in CP group at C3, C4, and C5. Disc/facet degeneration grade was higher in the CP group. Cervical motion of CP group was smaller than those of the control group. Conclusion : LM morphology of CP patients was different from normal population. Sclerotic pedicles and vertebral foramen asymmetry were more commonly identified in CP patients. CP patients were more likely to demonstrate progressive disc/facet degeneration. This data may provide useful information on cervical posterior instrumentation in CP patients.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the suitability of emergency underground cavity restoration method filling cavity with expansive material based on numerical analysis. For the numerical analysis, experiments were conducted to evaluate properties of expansive material. Based on the measured expansion pressure of the expansive material from the experiment, behavior of underground cavity restoration with various cavity dimensions (variation of height and width of rectangular-shape cavity) was numerically assessed. As a result of analysis, the vertical displacements of the top and bottom of cavity were significantly influenced by the cavity width and lateral displacements of cavity sides were highly dependent on cavity height. These vertical and lateral displacements were increased with increasing expansion pressure of expansive material. Also, when the expansion pressure was applied, the vertical displacement of the upper surface layer of the road was less dependent on cavity height, and was greatly influenced by cavity width.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze size and proportion of plan and section, and derive characteristics by types of worship-space in central hall of buddhist temple. This study covers 45 buddhist temples as designated national treasure and treasure. Types of central hall of buddhist temple are 'Columnless Type', 'Inner Column Type', and 'Colonnade Type'. The results are as follows. Firstly, in the proportion of width and length, 'Columnless Type' is mostly represented with 1:0.73, 'Inner Column Type' with 1:0.54 and seems to be widening for the other types, and 'Colonnade Type' is same proportion with 'Columnless Type'. Secondly, in the proportion of width and height, 'Columnless Type' is 1:0.61 and sizes of worship-space of this type are different but the proportion is same. In the 'Inner Column Type', worship-space is enlarged because a buddhist altar is hustled into the rear. Thirdly, in the proportion of length and height, all types are represented with similar proportion as 1:1. Finally, proportion of the volume of worship-space in 'Columnless Type' is 1(width):0.74(length):0.60(height). The case of 'Inner Column Type' is 1:0.57:0.57 and length of worship-space is shortened, so characteristics of horizontality is emphasized. The space of same size with the proportion of 'Columnless Type' is situated in the inside of worship-space in 'Colonnade Type'.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyse and evaluate the morphology of the articular eminence of temporomandibular joint in young Korean adults using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: One hundred seventy-one subjects (59 males, 112 females) in the 20s were examined using CBCT. Width and height of articular eminence, top-roof line angle, best-fit line angle, joint space were measured. For the group comparisons, independent t-test was used with the level of significance established at $p{\leq}0.05$. Results: In asymptomatic young Korean adults, average eminence width was $9.49{\pm}1.62mm$ in males and $9.33{\pm}1.36mm$ in females. Average eminence height was $7.23{\pm}1.81mm$ in males and $6.82{\pm}1.31mm$ in females. Average eminence inclination of measured by top-roof line angle was $37.09^{\circ}{\pm}7.74^{\circ}$ in males and $36.12^{\circ}{\pm}5.65^{\circ}$ in females. Average eminence inclination measured by best-fit line angle was $50.79^{\circ}{\pm}11.49^{\circ}$ in males and $48.43^{\circ}{\pm}9.05^{\circ}$ in females. Average joint space was $3.03{\pm}0.67mm$ in males and $2.63{\pm}0.68mm$ in females. Conclusions: Increasing age did not affect the morphology of the articular eminence in asymptomatic young Korean adults. Males had slightly larger eminence width, height, top-roof line angle, best-fit line angle and joint space, but no statistical significance (p>0.05) was observed only in the joint space (p=0.001). There was no side-to-side difference in morphology (p>0.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fitness according to drafting method of the block patterns for women in Korea. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1. According to comparative analysis of required measurements, two measurements of back length and bust girth are used in Proportional Drafting Method (Munhwa). In case of Compromise Drafting Methods are used across chest, across back, bust length, bust width, full length in front, across shoulder and shoulder length in addition to back length and bust girth. The type of Armstrong as a Short Measure Drafting Method uses 10 measurements for the drafting the bodice. 2. While Esmod block pattern arid Armstrong's block pattern are the lightest in full width and other widths. Rasara block pattern is the most ample. In Lee, Myung-hee's block pattern and Lee, Hyung-sook's block pattern, amounts of drooping are decided $3{\sim}4cm$, but drooping amounts of other block patterns are decided corresponding to real measurements. While cap height in Esmod and Armstrong's sleeve patterns are directly measured Armhole length of the block pattern, cap height of other sleeve patterns are used armhole depth and cap height length as well as armhole length. 3. When analyzing to indirect measurements, Esmod block pattern shows the least different between full length of block pattern and that of body form. Munhwa block pattern and Kim, Hyosook's block pattern are mostly same to body form back length. However all of the block patterns are sheller than body form length. In case of Suh, Wansuk's block pattern, across back and across chest are same size, but other block patterns show difference between across back and across chest. Most block patterns' neck width in front and bach bodice are almost same. Front neck width is generally bigger than back neck width in some cases.
