The world at the end of the $20^{th}$ Century has become "blue" Indeed, this past decade has witnessed a "blue rush" towards the development of violet-blue-green light emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs) based on wide bandgap III-Nitride semiconductors. And the hard work has culminated with, first, the demonstration of commercial high brightness blue and green LEDs and of commercial violet LDs, at the very end of this decade. Thanks to their extraordinary properties, these semiconductor materials have generated a plethora of activity in semiconductor science and technology. Novel approaches are explored daily to improve the current optoelectronics state-of-the-art. Such improvements will extend the usage and the efficiency of new light sources (e.g. white LEDs), support the rising information technology age (e.g. high density optical data storage), and enhance the environmental awareness capabilities of humans (ultraviolet and visible photon detectors and sensors). Such opportunities and many others will be reviewed in this presentation.
본 연구에서는 백색 고분자유기 발광다이오드를 제작하여 전기 광학적 특성을 평가하였다. ITO(indium tin oxide)를 양극으로 사용하고 정공수송층으로 PEDOT:PSS [poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfolnate)]를 발광물질로는 PFO [poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene)]와 MEH-PPV [poly(2-methoxy-5(2-ethylhexoxy)-1,4-phenyl-enevinyle)]를 각각 host와 dopant로 사용하였다.
The marine microalgae Isochrysis galbana was cultured under various light-emitting diode (LED) light conditions with different wavelengths to examine changes in growth and in amino acid and fatty acid profiles. The culture conditions for the microalgae were Conway medium, salinity of 33 psu, temperature of $24^{\circ}C$, and a 16/8 h light/dark photoperiod. Six light sources, including 5 units of 180W LED lamps (peak wavelength: blue [LB] 470 nm; green [LG] 525 nm; yellow [LY] 595 nm; red [LR] 636 nm; white [LW] 442 nm) and 1 unit of a 175W metal halide (MH) lamp, were used for the experiment. The dry cell weights ($gL^{-1}$) of I. galbana under different light conditions were in the order of LW>LB${\geq}$MH>LR>LG>LY. Levels of essential amino acids were revealed to be significantly higher under LW, LG, and MH than under the other wavelengths (P<0.05). The fatty acid, unsaturated fatty acid, and DHA contents of I. galbana were higher under MH, LW, and LG. In addition, the carotenoid content was higher under MH, LW, and LG than under the other wavelengths (P<0.05). The fucoxanthin content was highest under MH (0.28%) and lowest under LY (0.2%), and it was 0.26% under LW and LG. The results indicate that the combined use of LW and LG is effective when using LED lamps for I. galbana cultivation.

In this study, an accelerated aging experiment for fabric and paper was conducted using two light emitting diode(LED) sources with different wavelength characteristics, and the discoloration under each lighting type was examined. Hanji(Korean traditional paper) and related textiles showed more discoloration under blue LEDs, while the blue wool standard showed more discoloration under white LEDs. This, indicated that the deterioration varied depending on the sample color. The the effect of the light source on artifact deterioration was primarily related to the total radiation flux(expressed in mill watts), rather than the total luminous flux(expressed in lumens). In addition, the discoloration of the investigated artifacts was dependent on the color rendering of the lighting.
In this study, we proposed WLED(White-Light Emitting Diode) driver IC for mobile applications. This IC drove WLED for mobile applications with low input voltage and high efficiency by using boost converter. The device was designed by using boost converter applied current-mode control algorithm and provided PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) & analog dimming. Designed IC consisted of bias block, drive block, control block, protection block. We confirmed this device worked well through a application PCB (Printed Circuit Board) test.
LED lamp was designed by the serial-parallel integration of LED chips in metal-interconnection. The 7 $4.5{\times}4.5\;in^{2}$ masks were designed with the contact type of chrome-no mirror?dark. The white epitaxial thin film was grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The active layers were consisted with the serial order of multi-quantum wells for blue, green and red lights. The fabricated LED chip showed the electroluminescence peaked at 450, 560 and 600 nm. For the current injection of 20 mA, the operating voltage was measured to 4.25 V and the optical emission power was obtained to 0.7 $\mu$W.

This paper proposes a novel beehive-shaped reflector for application to light-emitting diode (LED) transceivers for illumination and bi-directional visible light communication (VLC). By using a diffuse propagation model extended to line-of-sight and direct signals, the distribution of illuminance and the path loss of the transceiver are investigated to evaluate the performance of the beehive-shaped reflector. To verify bi-directional communication, a VLC-based image capture system, comprising a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor and video processor unit, is demonstrated. Real-time images captured by the CMOS camera are successfully transmitted to the monitoring system via a free-space channel at a rate of 115.2 kbps.
The photo leakage currents of a conventional hydrogenated amorphous silicon(a-Si:H) thin film transistor(TFT) were investigated and analyzed in case of illumination from various light sources such as halogen lamp, cold cathode fluorescent lamp(CCFL) backlight, and white light emitting diode(LED) backlight. The photo leakage characteristics showed the apparent differences in the leakage level and in the $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio in spite of the similar luminances of light sources. This leakage level is expected to be related to the wavelength of the lowest intensity peak from the spectral characteristics of light sources.
This paper presents an indoor prototype for wireless digital signal transmission using Visible Light Communications (VLC) in which high power Light Emitting Diode (LED) is used. Using low cost and off-the-shelf components, the transmitter module is constructed using an AVR Atmega128 microcontroller and commercial white beam LEDs. Modulating the light intensity of the LED enables digital signals to be transmitted across the optical link. The receiver module employs a high speed PIN photodetector for optical signal detection and a recovery circuit for optical-electro signal conversion. By sending digitalized data via VLC technology, many applications can be realized in the areas of consumer advertising, traffic safety information and disaster control.
