Obstacle detection is a key feature in the safe driving control of electric wheelchairs. The suggested obstacle detection algorithm was designed to provide obstacle avoidance direction and detect the existence of cliffs. By means of this information, the wheelchair can determine where to steer and whether to stop or go. A 3D depth camera (Microsoft KINECT) is used to scan the 3D point data of the scene, extract information on obstacles, and produce a steering direction for obstacle avoidance. To be specific, ground detection is applied to extract the obstacle candidates from the scanned data and the candidates are projected onto a 2D map. The 2D map provides discretized information of the extracted obstacles to decide on the avoidance direction (left or right) of the wheelchair. As an additional function, cliff detection is developed. By defining the "cliffband," the ratio of the predefined band area and the detected area within the band area, the cliff detection algorithm can decide if a cliff is in front of the wheelchair. Vehicle tests were carried out by applying the algorithm to the electric wheelchair. Additionally, detailed functions of obstacle detection, such as providing avoidance direction and detecting the existence of cliffs, were demonstrated.
The purpose of my study is to provide some information on clothing for the handicapped with special needs. So I have designed clothes for the handicapped to provide some solutions for their clothing problems. These clothing designs for crutch and wheelchair users were based on solutions proposed by many researchers. The number of handicapped has been increasing gradually for years, especially the physically handicapped. Although they make use of many instruments for ease of movements and other physical conditions, most of the handicapped generally use crutches and wheelchairs. So I designed clothing for the crutch and wheelchair users. In order to ease problems in dressing and undressing, when using the crutch and wheelchair, various physical attributes of clothing should be considered: (1) Selection of fabric, (2) construction and location of the opening, (3) type and location of fastenings, and (4) design of garments for comfort and ease of movement. Clothing should also be able to satisfy psychological needs related to attractive appearance. My designs have proposed seven items of clothing. These include a cape-coat, over-blouse, one-piece dress and an pants for the crutch users. Also, a shirts, pants, and wheelchair wrap for wheelchair users will be displayed.

Application of electric wheelchair, sort of wheelchair which is playing important role in transporting patients and old people, has been increasing. In this study, we designed the electric wheelchairs' driving system. Using the multi-step gear, the driving system can get great power, even though the small capacity of motors. First, we designed the multi-step gear, test its bending strength and contact strength, as well as verified its performance. We installed 'B-type electric brake(Multiple plate clutch, Anti-magnetization) in same axle of the driving system, so it is possible to stop under huge torque and small size. Using this driving system of the multi-step gear which we designed, it's possible to improve driving gear efficiency 30% up and create the high-competitive electric wheelchair. And, it is easy to repair and control.
Purpose: This study determined the best adjustable height supporter for stroke patients in wheelchairs for the maintenance of a symmetric sitting posture. Methods: Thirty-one stroke participants and 20 age-matched control participants were recruited. The enrolled participants were evaluated by the Force Sensitive Application (FSA) System that was used to assess weight shift and symmetry in wheelchair sitting and assess the symmetric index (SI) of subjects according to 1, 2 and 3 cm height supporters. Results: When a 1 cm height supporter was applied to the paretic side of stroke survivors, sitting postures of stroke patients were significantly more symmetrical (p<0.01). Cross tabulation between the SI of wheelchair sitting and that of the paretic side of stroke patients caused? by a 1 cm supporter showed that 21 SIs of 26 stroke patients were improved by a 1 cm supporter to the paretic side (k=0.26, p<0.01). Conclusion: The findings of the present study demonstrate that stroke patients can maintain a more symmetrical sitting posture (than is possible when simply sitting in a wheelchair seat) if a 1 cm supporter is applied to the paretic side of stroke patients.
Purpose: This study sought to identify the utilization and confidence in assistive technology (AT) for pediatric physical therapists (PPTs) and pediatric occupational therapists (POTs) for the purpose of improving the utilization of AT in clinics. Methods: The subjects of this study were 167 therapists (98 PPTs and 69 POTs) who work at general hospitals, welfare centers, facilities for the disabled, and special education schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The frequency analysis and chi-squared test were used. Results: This study found that both PPTs and POTs recognize that AT benefits infants with disabilities; however, they show low confidence in using AT. Applications of AT are concentrated on wheelchairs for mobility and assistance with seating position, with orthotics/prosthetics for both purposes. POTs were found to use a wider variety of AT devices. While both PPTs and POTs frequently select/recommend devices, both groups are less involved with delivery methods, manufacture of devices, and education on AT use. Conclusion: These findings show the actual conditions of utilization and confidence in AT of PPTs and POTs deeply involved with AT, and emphasize that AT training is essential for pediatric treatment by comparing domestic and foreign studies.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information about efficient space use in the dining and bathing area through the analysis of service flowing. Four researchers observed the service flowing and the using behavior at those areas. The results of the study were as follows: Dining service was proceeded as resident moving, waiting, meal serving, dining, moving and arranging in order. The waiting stage was one of the problematic processes since the staffs made the residents wait to) long at a fixed position. The program right before the meal serving will be helpful for reducing tediousness of the elderly residents. Another problem was that the area was not big enough for the meal sowing. The legal regulation Is needed to prescnbe for the size of dining area per resident. The flowing of bathing service was proceeded as staff preparation, moving, waiting, undressing, bathing, drying, dressing, moving and arranging in order. There were more problems in the dressing area than in the bathing area. The elderly with stretcher or wheelchairs had difficulty in entering the narrow doorway. The dressing area was so crowded with the staffs, undressed elderly, dressed elderly, and other laundries. The division of dressing and undressing area is required to avoid the confusion of the users in the area.

This research notes dramatic increase of wheelchair usage along with rapidly aging population and handicapped people in Korea. Differentiated from existing electronic wheelchairs, we have invented an electronic wheelchair that is collapsible even when the battery is installed and a guardian can ride along with a patient. It is also easy to put in a small space such as car trunks. Additionally, we have improved stoic design to be preferable for patients. The model ensures there's neither abrupt acceleration nor sudden stop and, lastly, is much cheaper than other imported models.

In this paper, an omni wheel-based electric wheelchair is proposed that can achieve safe and convenient movement and can improve the convenience of living for mobility-impaired people who cannot move on their own. Generally, mobility-impaired people are afflicted with physical health issues such as pain and secondary body deformities because they often remain seated in wheelchairs for long periods of time. Hence, an electric wheelchair is required whose posture can be changed and whose size can be adjusted according to the user's body type. Such a wheelchair should also facilitate easy change of direction (even in a narrow space) for convenient movement. In this paper, an electric wheelchair featuring omni wheels is proposed that allows posture transformation and facilitates movement in a narrow space. It is believed that the proposed wheelchair can aid in enhancing the convenience of living for mobility-impaired people.

Low-floor buses service in Korea has been spreading nationwide for transportation users with wheelchair since 2004. However, there is a lot of difficulty in using this information because the low-floor bus information is insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the service of using low-floor buses for the transportation weak in order to increase the usage rate of low-floor buses for those who use wheelchairs. In this paper, we designed and implemented a low-floor bus reservation system to provide low-floor bus service and low-floor bus reservation service to improve low-floor bus service of wheelchair users. The application of this system is expected to provide a better service to the transportation weak people using low - floor buses.
