Korean railroad company is continuously improving the service for the disabled. They also install and reform many facilities for them. However, It is not considered the importance of egress when fire occurred in a cabin Now, Fire hazard analysis and risk assessment are introduced into domestic regulations for improving fire safety performance of train car and railroad facilities. Considering the fact that fire safety evaluation process doesn't fully include disabled person, fundamental egress data for them is very important for life safety aspect. In this paper, Egress experiments and analysis were conducted to measure the movement speed of the disabled with Mugunghwa and Saemaul.
The present study investigates the influences of vehicle induced loads on the thermal buckling behavior of straight and curved continuous welded rail (CWR) tracks. Quasi-static loads model is assumed to determine the uplift region, which occurs due to the vertical track deflection induced by wheel loads of vehicle. The lateral loads of vehicle induced by weight, the speed, the superelevation and curvature of track, and other dynamic vehicle track interaction, are included in the ratio of lateral to vertical vehicle load. Parametric numerical analyses are perfomed to calculate the upper and lower critical buckling temperatures of CWR tracks, and the comparison between the results of this work and the previous results without vehicle is also included.

The outer race of CV(constant velocity) joint is an important load-supporting automotive part, which transmits torque between the transmission gear box and driving wheel. The outer race is difficult to forge because its shape is very complicated and the required dimensional tolerances are very small. Traditional warm and cold forging methods have their own limitations to produce such a complex shaped part; warm forging requires complex system with relatively higher manufacturing cost, while cold forging is not applicable to materials with limited formability. Therefore, multistage forging may be advantageous to produce complex shaped parts. In order to build a multistage forging system, it is necessary to characterize mechanical properties in response to system design parameters such as temperature, forging speed and reduction. For the analysis of formability of multistage forging process, finite element method(FEM) has been used for the process analysis. As a model case, a constant velocity (CV) joint forging process is analyzed by FEM, since CV joint has a complex shape and also its required dimensional tolerances are very tight. The data acquired by FEM is compared with operational forging data obtained from an industrial production line. Based on this comparative analysis, multistage forging process for CV joints is proposed.

In order to process more complicated and higher-precision parts, generally, an additional axis for a machine tool is needed which was an approach to minimize the cost of tool modification. A table with a rotary reducer that can rotate through the axis of the gear system was employed to a machine tool to achieve the purpose of adding an extra motion axis. In general, the motion of the rotary reducer is driven by a worm/wheel or helical gear system, which is different from the hypoid helical gear structure that used in this research. Reliability of guarantee of high accurancy throughout the whole life cycle is on of the critical factors to evaluate a rotary reducer in this field. In this paper, in order to evaluate life-time of rotary reducer, a low-cost accelerated life test was developed to satisfy the demands of clients.

This paper proposes a new $H_{\infty}$ yaw moment control scheme using brake torque switching for improving vehicle performance and stability especially in high speed driving. In the scheme, one wheel is selected, depending on the vehicle states, at which a brake torque for control is applied. Steering angles are modeled as a disturbance to the system and the $H_{\infty}$ controller is designed to minimize the difference between the performance of the vehicle and that of the desired model. Its performance robustness as well as stability robustness to system parameter variations is assured through ${\mu}$-analysis. Various simulations with a nonlinear 8-DOF vehicle model show that proposed controller enhances the vehicle performance and stability under disturbances and parameter variations as well as under the normal driving condition.
In this paper, a lateral vehicle control using the concept of control configured vehicle (CCV) is presented. The control objectives for the lateral dynamics of a vehicle include the ability to follow a chosen variable without significant motion change in other specified variables. The analysis techniques for decoupling of the aircraft motions are utilized to develop vehicle lateral control with advanced mode. Vehicle lateral dynamic is determined to have the steering input and control torque input. The additional vehicle modes are also defined to using CCV concept. We use right eigenstructure assignment techniques and command generator tracker to design a control law for an lateral vehicle dynamics. The desired eigenvectors are chosen to achieve the desired decoupling (i.e., lateral direction speed and yaw rate). The command generator tracker is used to ensure steady-state tracking of the driver's command. Finally, the developed design is utilized by using the lateral vehicle dynamic with four wheel.

Automotive turbochargers have become common in gasoline engines as well as diesel engines. They are excellent devices to effectively increase fuel efficiency and power of the engines, but they unfortunately cause several noise problems. The noises are classified into mechanical noises induced from movement of a rotating shaft and aerodynamic noises by air flow in turbochargers. The mechanical noises are whine and howling noises, and the aerodynamic noises are BPF (blade-passing frequency), pulsation, surge, some special frequency noises. These noises are bothering passengers because their levels are higher or their frequencies are clearly separated from engine or vehicle noises. The noise investigated in this paper is a BPF noise induced by compressor wheels, whose frequency is the multiplication of the number of compressor wheel blades and its rotational speed. The noise is strongly dependent upon the geometry of wheels and the number of blades. This study tried to apply a groove close to the inlet side of compressor wheels in order to reduce the BPF noise. The groove has successfully reduced the noise of narrow band frequency of a turbocharger. It shows that the groove could reduce the wide band frequency noise, the compressor BPF noise with a best shape of the groove.

This work introduces a two-module robotic pipe inspection system with ultrasonic NDE device to evaluate the integrity of pipe structures. The proposed robotic platform has high mobility. The two module mobile robot platform overcomes pipe obstacle structures such as elbow, or T-branch joints by cooperative maneuvers. Also, it can climb up the straight pipeline at a fast speed due to the wheel driven mechanism. For inspection of pipe structure, SH-waves generated by EMAT are applied with additional signal processing methods. A wavelet transform is implemented to extract a meaningful and specific signal from the superposed SH-wave signals. Intensity ratio which is normalized the defect signals intensity by the maximum intensity of directly transmitted signals in the wavelet transforms spectrum is applied to evaluate defects quantitatively. It is experimentally verified that the robotic ultrasonic inspection system with EMAT is capable of non-destructive inspection and evaluation of defects in pipe structure successfully by applying signal processing method based on wavelet transform.

There are many difficulties in automatic polishing for die & mold surfaces. Even though the process has been studied in the past 15 years, it has not been achieved yet, but by the process of actual hand work of well-skilled workers. A new magentic assisted polishing process, which is one of the potential methods for automation of surface finishing has been studied in the past 10 years by colleagues. The process has many merits, but on the other hand also has demerits, one being low efficiency of grindability by comparision with wheel polish. Therefore, some attempts were tried to improve the grindability by adopting electropolishing, ultra-high speed milling, 5-axis controlled machine etc... most recently by colleagues. This paper also aims to improve the efficiency of polishing by introducing the easily-polished shape surface cutting method equalizing the tool feed per revolution to the pick feed. This cutting method was experimentally confirmed to have sufficient grindability to polish milled surface (with $10{{\mu}m}$Rmax surface roughness) into mirror surface (with $0.4{{\mu}m}$Rmax surface roughness).
