  • The objective of this thesis is to develop a prediction system of potential landslide sites to apply to the prevention of landslide disaster which occurred during the heavy rainfall in the rainy season. The system was developed by combining a modified slope stability analysis model and a hydrological model. The modified slope stability analysis model, which was improved from 1-D infinite slope stability analysis model, has been taken into consideration of the flexion of the hill slopes. To evaluate its applicability to the prediction of landslides, the data of actual landslides were plotted on the predicted areas on the GIS map. The matching rate of this model to the actual data was 92.4%. And the relations between wetness index and landform factors and potential landslide were analyzed.

  • Where no records are available at a site, a preliminary estimate may be made from relations between floods and catchment chatacteristics. A number of these chatacteristics were chosen for testing and were measured for those catchments where mean annual flood estimates were available. Although the improvement using extended data in regression of flood estimates on catchment characteristics was small, this may be due to the limitations of the regression model. When an individual short term record is to be extended, more detailed attention can be given; an example is presented of the technique which should be adopted in practice, particularly when a short term record covers a period which is known to be biassed. A method of extending the peaks over a threshold series is presented with a numerical example. The extension of records directly from rainfall by means of a conceptual model is discussed, although the application of such methods is likely to be limited by lack of recording raingauge information. Methods of combining information from various sources are discussed in terms of information from catchment characteristics supplemented by records. but are generally applicable to different sources of information. The application of this technique to estimating the probable maximum flood requires more conservative assumptions about the antecedent condition, storm profile and unit hydrograph. It is suggested that the profile and catchment wetness index at the start of the design duration should be based on the assumption that the estimated maximum rainfall occurs in all durations centered on the storm peak.

  • Impotence is defined as a consistent inability to achieve or maintain penile erection that is adequate for completion of sexual intercourse. In oriental midicine, the chief cause of impotence is the decline of the fire from the gate of life, and in western medicine that is psycogenic and organic. Because of the increase aging people and psycologic stress that modern people get, impotence became common. This bibliographic study on impotence in the oriental and western medicine books has come to the following conclusions. 1. The main cause of impotence in the oriental medicine is the decline of the fire from the gate of life(命門火衰), followed by the deficiency of both heart and spleen(心脾兩虛), the depression of Liver energy(肝氣鬱結), and attack of blended wetness and heat to the lower wanner(濕熱下注). 2. The theraphics of impotence in oriental medicine are warming and strenghthening Kidney. softness of Liver energy, tonifying the Kidney to relieve mental strain, clear away the wetness-heat, and infairment of Heart and Spleen. 3. The prescriptions of impotence are Yugyeyum, Gyibitang, Soyosan, Sunjitang, and Yongdamsagantang. 4. In the western medicine, psycotherapy, medical therapy and surgical therapy are the major way to treat impotence.

  • This study has been conducted to investigate corrosivity of carbon steel, Cu, Zn and Al for one year from Sept. 2003 to Aug. 2004. A model of ISO 9223-ISO 9226 that represents the relation between metal corrosions and environmental parameters was used for atmospheric corrosion evaluations. Environmental parameters for these evaluations are time of wetness(TOW), $SO_2$ and Chloride. Corrosion rates for four metals which are exposed indoors and outdoors were measured on five locations in Jeju Island; Gosan, Seogwipo, Seongsan, Chuna hill and Jeju city. The environmental factor of atmospheric corrosion of Jeju Island for $SO_2$ class is P0, a clean area. TOW as T3 and T4 indicates that Jeju has the characteristics of a tropical area. Chlorides class within 3 km from the coast show the features of costal area as S2 and S3 classes. Chuna hill show the features of woodland as a S1 class. In Corrosion classes of each site which was measured outdoors is higher than indoors. Gosan is the highest class as the rank of C5, and indicated that they're ranked as C3 or C4.

  • A Texture profile for frozen pizzas was developed and applied to a comparison of the texture of frozen pizzas heated by conventional and microwave ovens. The texture profile consisted of 29 attributes evaluated at the following five stages: visual and manual. lip feel, first bite, mastication, and swallowing. The microwave pizza tended to be more crisp, dry, and rough but less tender than the conventionally heated pizza. Separate evaluations of the center and edge portions showed differences only in top greasiness, wetness of sauce on palate, moisture release for both types of pizza suggesting that the separated evaluations were not necessarily required. The edge tended to be less greasy and moist than the center possibly because it is more susceptible to overcooking and subsequent drying out.

  • The optimum temperature range for conidial germination of Pyriculacia oryzae on a slide glass was $26{\sim}30^{\circ}C$, at which at least four hours of leaf wetness period was required to germinate. Conidial germination was significantly reduced under dry conditions (relative humidity<85%) at $34^{\circ}C$ but not at lower temperature (18, 22, 26, $30^{\circ}C$). Number of lesions developed were greater at $26^{\circ}C$ than at other temperature tested. The average leaf wetness period required for production of a lesion per plant was 22 hours at $18^{\circ}C$, 16 hours at $22^{\circ}C$, 10 hours at $26^{\circ}C$, and 8 hours at $30^{\circ}C$. Less than one lesion per plant occurred at $34^{\circ}C$ even under 24 hours of leaf wetness period. The time period between inoculation and lesion appearance was $7{\sim}8$ days at $18^{\circ}C$, $4{\sim}5$ days at $22^{\circ}C$ and $26^{\circ}C$, and $3{\sim}4$ days at $30^{\circ}C$. The time period required for lesion appearance after inoculation was not affected by leaf wetness period and relative humidity. Lesion length increased most rapidly at $30^{\circ}C$ during the first four days after lesion appearance. Thereater, the rate of increase in lesion length was geratest at $26^{\circ}C$. The average increment of lesion length per day when relative humidity was greater than 90% was 0.7mm at $18^{\circ}C\;and\;22^{\circ}C$, 1mm at $26^{\circ}C$, and 0.8mm at $30^{\circ}C$. When relative humidity was less than 85%, the increments of lesion length per day were approximately $50{\sim}60%$ of those under humid conditions (relative humidity>90%) at all temperature regimes except $30^{\circ}C$. Relative humidity did not significantly affected lesion length at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • In order to analyze the land surface properties in Seoul and its surrounding metropolitan area, several indices and land surface temperature were calculated by the Landsat satellites (e.g., Landsat 5, Landsat 7, and Landsat 8). The Landsat data came from only in the fall season with Landsat 5 on October 21, 1985, Landsat 7 on September 29, 2003, and Landsat 8 on September 16, 2013. The land surface properties used are the indices that represented Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI), Modified Normalized Difference Wetness Index (MNDWI), Normalized Difference Wetness Index (NDWI), Tasseled cap Brightness, Tasseled cap Greenness, Tasseled cap Wetness Index, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI) and the land surface temperature of the area in and around Seoul. Most indices distinguish very well between urban, rural, mountain, building, river and road. In particular, most of the urbanization is represented in the new city (e.g., Ilsan) around Seoul. According to NDVI, NDBI and land surface temperature, urban expansion is displayed in the surrounding area of Seoul. The land surface temperature and surface elevation have a strong relationship with the distribution and structure of the vegetation/built-up indices such as NDVI and NDBI. While the NDVI is positively correlated with the land surface temperature and is also negatively correlated with the surface elevation, the NDBI have just the opposite correlations, respectively. The NDVI and NDBI index is closely associated with the characteristics of the metropolitan area. Landsat 8 and Landsat 5 have very strong correlations (more than -0.6) but Landsat 7 has a weak one (lower than -0.5).

  • In this study we performed risk evaluation based on parameters using the SINMAP, GIS-based extended program in order to predict ground disaster that is frequent recently. As for the risk evaluation, in order to understand the effects of parameters, we defined that the ranges of internal friction angles and T/R values as important variables had three and four patterns, respectively. The results of the interpretation were compared with those of the existing landslide in order to identify landslide flow and to evaluate the applicability of the parameters. The analysis of the geomorphologic saturated zone showed that the boundary saturated zone and the saturated zone were almost consistent with the site of avalanche of earth and rocks and the area of underground water convergence was correlated to the area where collapse started, indicating that the geomorphologic saturated zone may serve as an index for estimating possibility of landslide when used with slope distribution, colluvial soil, and structures inducing landslide in combination. When the lower limit of the internal friction angle increased more, the upper threshold decreased by 50 to 70% and the influence on the stability index was higher, but the influence was declined within the range of lower wetness index. The analysis of changes based on wetness index range showed that all the groups have similar SI distribution, except for the one in which mean altitude values are applied, indicating that the results are susceptible more by the internal friction angle than by the wetness index.

  • This study was aimed to examine the Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) index, which matches well with the field survey data in the wildfire area of Gangneung, Gangweon Province, Korea. In the wildfire area NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), SAVI (Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index), and Tasseled Cap Transformation Index (Brightness, Wetness, Greenness) were compared with field survey data. NDVI and SAVI were very useful in detecting the difference between the wildfire and non-wildfire area, but not so in classify the soil types in the wildfire area. The soil plane based on the Tasseled Cap Transformation showed a better result in classifying the soil types in the wildfire areas than NDVI and SAVI, and corresponded well with field survey data. Using a linear function based on greenness and wetness in the Tasseled Cap Transformation is expected to provide a more efficient and quicker method to classify wildfire areas.

  • Melanose caused by Diaporthe citri is a serious disease on yuzu fruits. Moisture is the most important to infect after the pycnidiospores are released. In order to understand how dryness and moisture interruption affect on germination, the conidial suspensions on slide glass were dried for 0-48 h. For the moisture interruption experiment, moisture was supplied for 10 h then interrupted for 0-6 h depending on the treatments. Germinations on the treatments with longer than 15 h of dryness were less than 10%. And those with longer than 3 h of moisture interruption were less than 30%. Compared with other fungal phytopathogens, D. citri was xero-sensitive. Germination on yuzu feel medium was measured under 15, 20, 25, 30, $35^{\circ}C$ with 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 h of wetness. The minimum wetness periods achieving 10% and 50% germinations were 4.5 and 13 h, and the optimum temperatures were $29.1^{\circ}C$ and $29.2^{\circ}C$, respectively. From the yuzu medium study, the regression equations to be required wetness period achieving 10% and 50% germinations on various temperatures were $Wh_{50%}=0.1093{\times}T^2-6.3762{\times}+106.08$ and $Wh_{10%}=0.082{\times}T^2-4.8025{\times}T+74.861$.
