  • When demand for transmitting multimedia data increases, network congestion is more likely to occur and users will suffer high loss rate as well as high delay. In order to enhance quality-of-service (QoS) of video multicasting, we need to raise transmission reliability and reduce end-to-end delay. This paper proposes a routing mechanism for a OpenFlow-based small-scale network in order to multicast video reliably with low delay. In our method, multipath routing will be applied to Multiple Description (MD) Coded video to exploit its multi-description property. Through performance evaluation, our method shows improvement on loss rate, delay and video distortion.

  • The complexity of modern power systems often makes it impractical to model it in its entirety for electromagnetic transient studies. Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). The advantage of using z-domain fitting is that it can be directly implemented in a digital simulation program without any loss of accuracy. Fitting in the s-domain always requires "discretizing" a continuous system and the inherent approximations. This paper presents z-domain rational function formulation and demonstrates the use of it for the assessment of the transient response of the Lower South Island of New Zealand. Moreover by using a well publicized test system and providing complete information on the developed FDNE coefficients other researchers easily benchmark their work against this.

  • To adequately analyze flows in pipe or duct network system, traditional node-based junction coupling methods require the junction loss which is specified by empirical or analytic correlations. In this paper, a new finite volume junction coupling method using a ghost junction cell is developed by considering the interchange of linear momentum as well as the important wall-effect at junction without requiring any correlation on the junction loss. Also, boundary treatment is modified to preserve the stagnation enthalpy across boundaries, such as pipe-end and the interface between junction and branch. Also, the computational accuracy and efficiency of the Godunov-type finite volume schemes are investigated by tracing the total mechanical energy of rapid transients due to sudden closure of valve at downstream end.

  • The parameters of PID controller should be readjusted whenever system character change. In spite of a rapid development of control theory, this work needs much time and effort of expert. In this paper, to resolve this defect, after the sample of parameters in the changeable limits of system character is obtained, these parametrs are used as desired values of back propagation learning algorithm, also neural network auto tuner for PID controller is proposed by determing the optimum structure of neural network. Simulation results demonstrate that auto-tuning proper to system character can work well.

  • Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) becomes more popular in industry, academia and government. However, Typical VANET is challenged by high speed mobility and insufficient spectrum resources over congested scenarios. To address those serious problems, some articles have introduced Cognitive Radio (CR) technology into VANET and formed CR-VANET. In this article, we propose an overview of CR-VANET by exploring different architectures and features. Moreover, we provide taxonomy of state-of-the-art papers in this emerging field and the key articles are well analyzed respectively. In addition, we illustrate both research and application frameworks of CR-VANET based on our works, and propose some open research issues for inspiring future work.

  • In this work we propose a new pricing scheme for the wireless Internet services over WiMAX system. First, let us review the characteristics of wireless network which is based on multi-hop relay WiMAX system. Next, we show why usage-based and QoS-aware pricing scheme is needed in the wireless Internet. After that, we propose a theoretical model for the price of multimedia services called a DAP (DiffServ-aware pricing) scheme for the WiMAX multimedia network which takes into account the consumed radio resource of WiMAX system as well as the supported QoS in the IP backbone network. Finally, we present explicit formulae for the packet price, price of consumed radio resource, and price of consumed bytes.

  • Many closed queueing network models have been used as an effective tool to make a preliminary design of FMS. Although a loading/unloading function is an important factor to effect the utilization and throughput of FMS as well as a transfer function and a processing function, the Solberg's model did not clarify the loading/unloading function. In this paper, we propose a closed queueing network model for analyzing a flexible manufacturing system that consists of a load/unload station, a material handling system and a group of workstations for processing jobs, and define the expected utilization and the expected throughput of the FMS. As applications of the proposed model, the cases of a material handling system consisting of a conveyor and the FMS including an inspection station are also formulated.

  • In recent years, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) models are enjoying great interest as their success in a variety of challenging tasks. Deep Q-Network (DQN) is a widely used deep reinforcement learning model, which trains an intelligent agent that executes optimal actions while interacting with an environment. This model is well known for its ability to surpass skilled human players across many Atari 2600 games. Although DQN has achieved excellent performance in practice, there lacks a clear understanding of why the model works. In this paper, we present a visual analytics system for understanding deep Q-network in a non-blind matter. Based on the stored data generated from the training and testing process, four coordinated views are designed to expose the internal execution mechanism of DQN from different perspectives. We report the system performance and demonstrate its effectiveness through two case studies. By using our system, users can learn the relationship between states and Q-values, the function of convolutional layers, the strategies learned by DQN and the rationality of decisions made by the agent.

  • In highly automated milling process, in-process monitoring of the malfunction is indispensable to ensure efficient cutting operation. Among many malfunctions in milling process, chatter vibration deteriorates surface finish, tool life and productivity. In this study, the monitoring system of chatter vibration for face milling process is proposed and experimentally estimated. The monitoring system employs two types of sensor such as cutting force and acceleration in sensory detection state. The RMS value and band frequency energy of the sensor signals are extracted in time domain for the input patterns of neural network to reduce time delay in signal processing state. The resultes of experimental evaluation show that the system works well over a wide range of cutting conditions.
