The behavior of fatigue crack growth in the single spot welded joint of zinc galvanized steel sheets was studied experimentally and analytically based on fracture mechanics. Axial tension fatigue tests were carried out with the BSxGAB specimen that the bare plane(GAB) of monogalvanized steel sheet was spot welded to the double thickness bare steel sheet(BS), and with the GAxGAB specimen that the galvanized plane (GA) was spot welded to the equal thickness bare plane (GAB) 1. The relation between maximum stress intensity factor, K sub(max) and the number of cycles to failure, N sub(f) has shown a linear relation on log-log plot in the spot weld of the zinc galvanized steel sheet. 2. The fatigue strength of BSxGAB specimens is about 23% higher than that of GAxGAB specimens at the fatigue strength of $1\times10^6$ cycles. And the fatigue life of BSxGAB specimens at the same load range increases 6~9 times higher than that of GAxGAB specimens. 3. The general tendency at the angle of bending($\theta$) in an applied load has changed rapidly at the initial 20% of its life. After then, it has changed slowly. The change at the angle of bending has increased linearly as the load range increases. 4. It has shown a linear relation between the location ratio of initiation ${\gamma}$ and fatigue life $N_f$ on the semi-log graph paper. Here $\gamma$ means that the crack distance between main crack and sub-crack, 2L is divided by the nugget diameter, 2r. $\gamma=a{\cdot}log N_f+n$ (where a and n are material constant.)

LLC resonant converter is used to control laser output power in Nd:YAG laser. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) is implemented to minimize the switching loss which is adopting the LLC resonant converter. In the spot welding processing of metal thin films, the processing quality is decided by the laser beam output energy of single pulse. We decide to the 50 [J] as the single pulse laser beam energy. Laser output power is investigated and experimented by changing the output current. That current is controled by the charging voltage of capacitor. From those results, we obtained the maximum laser output of 58.2 [J] and the conversion efficiency of 2.52% at the discharge voltage of 620V and the discharge current of 861 [A] and the pulse repetition rate of 1 [Hz] at the charging capacitor of 12,000 [${\mu}F$].

Recently, research on the development of lightweight vehicle bodies is increasing continuously as a response to fuel economy regulations. To reduce the weight of a vehicle body, a conventional steel plate has been substituted by light weight material with high specific strength and the jointing of multi-materials is generally applied. On the other hand, the customer's demand for safety and emotional quality in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, a light weight with proper strength and NVH quality is needed. In the view of light weighting and NVH quality, the application of a vibration proof steel plate can be an effective solution but the formability of a sandwich panel is different with a conventional steel sheet. Therefore, careful analysis of formability is required. This study aims to characterize the formability of a sandwich high-strength steel plate. The high-strength steel plates of different thicknesses with resistance spot welding and sealer bonding were analyzed using forming limits diagram through a cup drawing test.
As a general rule, the brazing process between cemented carbides and steel used by Silver (Ag) type brazing filler. The composition of Ag type filler were used Ag-Cu-Zn-Cd type filler mainly. But, the demand of Cadmium (Cd)-free in Ag type filler was raised recently. The reason why Cd-free in Ag brazing filler were occupied to vaporize as a CdO$_2$ when brazing process, because of Cd element was almost low boiling point of all Ag type filler elements. And, CdO$_2$ was a very harmful element for the human body. This experiment was developed Cd-freeing on Ag type filler that was used Indium (In) instead of Cd element. In this experiment, there were changed from 0 to 5% In addition in Ag brazing filler and investigated to most effective percentage of Indium. As a result, the change of In addition instead of Cd, there was a very useful element and obtained same property only 3% In added specimens compared to Cd 19% added specimens. These specimens were obtained same or more deflective strength. In this case, there were obtained 70 MPa over strength and wide brazing temperature range 650-800 C. A factor of deflective strength were influenced by composition and the shape of $\beta$ phase and between $\beta$ phase and cemented carbides interface. Indium element presented as $\alpha$ phase and non-effective factor directly, but it's occupied to solid solution hardening as a phase. $\beta$ phase were composed 84-94% Cu-Ni-Zn elements mainly. Especially, the presence of Ni element in interface was a very important factor. Influence of condensed Ni element in interface layer was increased the ductility and strength of brazing layer. Therefore, these 3% In added Ag type filler were caused to obtain a high brazing strength.
The effect of stress factors on the growing process of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of the sensitized 18-8 stainless steel in high temperature water was investigated using equations of crack growth rate derived from applying electric circuits to SCC corrosion paths. Three kinds of cross sections have to be considered when electric circuit is constructed using total current. The first is ion flow passage area, $S_{sol}$, of solution in crack, the second is total dissolving surface area, $S_{dis}$, of metal on electrode of crack tip and the third is dissolving cross section, $S_{met}$, of metal on grain boundary or in base metal or in welding metal. Stress may affect each area. $S_{sol}$ may depend on applied stress, $\sigma_{\infty}$, related with crack depth. $S_{dis}$ is expressed using a factor of $\varepsilon(K)$ and may depend on stress intensity factor, K only. SCC crack growth rate is ordinarily estimated using a variable of K only as stress factor. However it may be expected that SCC crack growth rate depends on both applied stress $\sigma_{\infty}$ and K or both crack depth and K from this consideration.$\varepsilon(K)$ is expressed as ${\varepsilon}(K)=h_2{\cdot}K^2+h_3{\cdot}K^3$ when $h_{2}$ and $h_{3}$ are coefficients. Also, relationships between SCC crack growth rate, da/dt and K were simulated and compared with the literature data of JBWR-VIP-04, NRC NUREG-0313 Rev.2 and SKIFS Draft. It was pointed out in CT test that the difference of distance between a point of application of force and the end of starter notch (starting point of fatigue crack) may be important to estimate SCC crack growth rate. An anode dissolution current density was quantitatively evaluated using a derived equation.
This study was conducted to analyze the variations of air temperature, relative humidity and pressure in a low pressure chamber for plant growth. The low pressure chamber was composed of an acrylic cylinder, a stainless plate, a mass flow controller, an elastomer pressure controller, a read-out-box, a vacuum pump, and sensors of air temperature, relative humidity, and pressure. The pressure leakage in the low pressure chamber was greatly affected by the material and connection method of tubes. The leakage rate in the low pressure chamber with the welding of the stainless tubes and a plate decreased by $0.21kPa{\cdot}h^{-1}$, whereas the leakage in the low pressure chamber with teflon tube and rubber O-ring was given by $1.03kPa{\cdot}h^{-1}$. Pressure in the low pressure chamber was sensitively fluctuated by the air temperature inside the chamber. An elastomer pressure controller was installed to keep the pressure in the low pressure chamber at a setting value. However, inside relative humidity at dark period increased to saturation level.. Two levels (25 and 50kPa) of pressure and two levels (500 and 1,000sccm) of mass flow rate were provided to investigate the effect of low pressure and mass flow rate on relative humidity inside the chamber. It was concluded that low setting value of pressure and high mass flow rate of mixed gas were the effective methods to control the pressure and to suppress the excessive rise of relative humidity inside the chamber.

Background: Additive manufacturing (AM) is a rapidly expanding new technology involving challenges to occupational health. Here, metal exposure in an AM facility with large-scale metallic component production was investigated during two consecutive years with preventive actions in between. Methods: Gravimetric analyzes measured airborne particle concentrations, and filters were analyzed for metal content. In addition, concentrations of airborne particles <300 nm were investigated. Particles from recycled powder were characterized. Biomonitoring of urine and dermal contamination among AM operators, office personnel, and welders was performed. Results: Total and inhalable dust levels were almost all below occupational exposure limits, but inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry showed that AM operators had a significant increase in cobalt exposure compared with welders. Airborne particle concentrations (<300 nm) showed transient peaks in the AM facility but were lower than those of the welding facility. Particle characterization of recycled powder showed fragmentation and condensates enriched in volatile metals. Biomonitoring showed a nonsignificant increase in the level of metals in urine in AM operators. Dermal cobalt and a trend for increasing urine metals during Workweek Year 1, but not in Year 2, indicated reduced exposure after preventive actions. Conclusion: Gravimetric analyses showed low total and inhalable dust exposure in AM operators. However, transient emission of smaller particles constitutes exposure risks. Preventive actions implemented by the company reduced the workers' metal exposure despite unchanged emissions of particles, indicating a need for careful design and regulation of the AM environments. It also emphasizes the need for relevant exposure markers and biomonitoring of health risks.
A steam generator (boiler) in thermal power plants, consisting of more than 30,000 parts and components, can lead to the plant shutdown with damage to even the small part of the components; esp., like weld failures on boiler tubes. Consequently it is greatly demanded to improve the quality of the weld on the boiler tube for the stable operation of the power plants. Because of the feature of the welding, which is done past by melting the work pieces and adding a filler material that cools to become a strong coalescence, there is a great possibility that weld failures take place. As a result, it is regulated to make a non-destructive testing, like radiography test, to detect defects and flaws in the weld. The current film radiography test provides a lower image quality exceeding 2.0% of a basic quality level for a penetrameter, it is very likely to fail to detect micro defect. As a result, the prevention for the boiler tube failure has not been made effectively. In this study, computed radiography technology has been applied as a digital radiography test to the boiler tube weld, and Se-75 radiation source was used to improve the image quality, instead of Ir-192 source. As a result of this study, it is proven to save the time and cost for test and to enhance the quality level of penetrameter penetrating image, which enables to upgrade the quality of radiography test to the boiler tube weld.

The plane bending corrosiion fatigue test for the welded metal parats was performed in the air and in the natural sea water with and without applying cathodic protection. The specimens tested were the weld of SM41 steel plates, SM58 steel plates and of SM41 to SM58, which were all prepared by submerged arc welding. The main results obtained from the experiment are summarized as follows: (1) In case with SM41 and SM58 steel plates, lower value of impact strength, higher value of hardness and more noble electrode potential were observed in the welded metal part than in the HAZ and base metal. Also the lowest hardness zone in the HAZ was observed with SM58 which was not found with SM41. In case with weld specimen of SM41 to SM58, the impact strength and the electrode potential of the welded metal part showed again the lowest and most noble value but the hardness value was located between those of SM41 and SM58 base metal. (2) In the fatigue test, the specimens tested in the air and under the cathodic protection were both cracked in a purely mechanical mode, but the specimens tested without cathodic protection were cracked by the combination of mechanical fracture and electro-chemical corrosion. (3) The corrosion fatigue limit of the welded metal parts of the specimen was increased by the cathodic protection. As the protection potential was varied down to -800 mV vs. SCE the fatigue limit was increased to the value tested in the air, and the maximum fatigue limit appeared at the -1, 000 - -1, 200 mV vs. SCE. However, as the protection potential was further decreased below -1, 200 mV vs.SCE, the fatigue limit of weld of SM58 and of SM41-SM58 joining was decreased but the limit was almost constant in the case of weld of SM41. (4) It is suggested that when designing steel ship the corrosion fatigue limit of welded metal parts should be stressed as a designing strength of the structure of steel ship in addition to the conventional basis considering simply tensile strength of steel and safety factor.

Dual fuel engines are suitable for stricter regulations as they significantly decrease exhaust gas output. Hence, research and development of double wall bellows for dual fuel engines is important. In this study, optimum forming methods and welding conditions were derived to develop double wall bellows made of austenite stainless steel. The reliability of the prototypes was ensured by various performance evaluations. In this study, the buckling load and bellows stress were obtained by structural design, buckling, and stress analysis to design optimum bellows. As a result, the buckling load in the embossing shape of bellows increased by approximately 1.6 times, and no buckling and squirming occurred at 30.0 bar, which was twice that of the maximum design pressure.
