Most research to date concerning the cryogenic toughness of austenitic stainless steels has concentrated on the base metal and weld metal in weldments. The most severe problem faced on the conventional austenitic stainless steel is the thermal aging degradation such as sensitization and carbide induced embrittlement. In this paper, we investigate the cryogenic toughness degradation which can be occurred for austenitic stainless in welding. The test materials are austenitic stainless JN1, JJ1 and JK2 steels, which are materials recently developed for use in nuclear fusion apparatus at cryogenic temperature. The small punch(SP) test was conducted to detect similar isothermally aging condition with material degradation occurred in service welding. The single-specimen unloading compliance method was used to determine toughness degradation caused by thermal aging for austenitic stainless steels. In addition, we have investigated size effect on fracture toughness by using 20% side-grooved 0.5TCT specimens.
A study on the corrosion behavior in case of As-welded and PWHT temperature 55$0^{\circ}C$ of welding part of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-Vickers hardness, corrosion potential measurement of weld metal(WM), base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), both Al anode generating current and Al anode weight loss quantity under sacrificial anode cathodic protection conditions. And also we carried out slow strain rate test(SSRT) in order to research both limiting cathodic polarization potential for hydrogen embrittlement and optimum cathodic protection potential as well as mechanical properties by post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) effect. Hardness of HAZ was the highest among three parts(WM, BM and HAZ) and the highest galvanic corrosion susceptibility was HAZ. And the optimum cathodic polarization potential showing the best mechanical properties by SSRT method was from -770mV to -875mV(SCE). In analysis of SEM fractography, applied cathodic potential from -770mV to -875mV(SCE) it appeared dimple pattern with ductile fracture while it showed transgranular pattern (Q. C : quasicleavage) under -900mV(SCE). However it is suggested that limiting cathodic polarization potential indicating hydrogen embrittlement was under -900mV(SCE).
The effects of weld repair on the durability in Al-10%Si-0.3%Mg castings were evaluated. The strength and fracture toughness in fusion zone were higher than those in the base metal by rapid cooling of fusion zone after welding. There were no significant differences between fatigue properties in castings and weld repaired specimen as the results of low cycle fatigue and rotating bending fatigue test. Therefore it was concluded that weld repairing did not have any significant effect on the mechanical properties of castings.
6061 aluminum alloy sheets were I-square butt welded using a continuous wave Nd:YAC laser. Heat inputs were varied from 54.6 to 80 J/mm for butt welding using different sets of the laser power and the weld speed. I-square butt welds were also made with and without Ar shielding gas. The effect of Ar shielding gas and heat input on the mechanical properties and formability was investigated using Vickers hardness, transverse-weld tensile and bulge test. Porosity on the weld beads and sections and hot crack on the fracture surfaces of transverse-weld tensile test specimens were investigated using optical and scanning electron microscopy The experimental results showed that mechanical properties and formability of 6061 aluminum alloy laser welds were degraded compared to those of base metal. Mechanical properties and formability of 6061 aluminum alloy laser welds were not substantially changed when Ar shielding gas was supplied or heat inputs were varied.

The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of welding residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behavior of cracks located transverse to the weld bead. For this purpose, G. T. A (Gas Tungsten Arc) welding was performed on hte Al alloy 1100-O plate and the same initial crack is made on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone), weld metal and base meta respectively. Specimens were used CT(Compact Tension) specimens. Initial welding residual stresses were measured by using strai gage sectioning method. All specimens were tested under constant amplitude load with stress ratio R=0.1, It is possible to predict fatigue crack growth behaviors and the fatigue life, using numerical analysis together with distribution of initial residual stress and the values of C and m obtained from $da/dN-{\Delta}K$
The purpose of this work is to predict ductile fracture of structural steel under extremely low cyclic loading experienced in earthquake. A cumulative damage model is proposed on the basis of an existing damage model originally aiming to predict fracture under monotonic loading. The cumulative damage model assumes that damage does not grow when stress triaxiality is below a threshold and fracture occurs when accumulated damage reach unit. The model was implemented in ABAQUS software. The cumulative damage model parameters for steel base metal, weld metal and heat affected zone were calibrated, respectively, through testing and finite element analyses of notched coupon specimens. The damage evolution law in the notched coupon specimens under different loads was compared. Finally, in order to examine the engineering applicability of the proposed model, the fracture performance of beam-column welded joints reported by previous researches was analyzed based on the cumulative damage model. The analysis results show that the cumulative damage model is able to successfully predict the cracking location, fracture process, the crack initiation life, and the total fatigue life of the joints.

To figure out the weldability and welded joint performance on the FCAW of SM490TMC 120mm, several specimens were manufactured and 10 kinds of experiments were implemented. The result of the weld zone chemical composition test, weld metal tensile test, weld zone tensile test, and weld zone impact test has satisfied the KS. Especially, the weld zone tensile test result shows the base metal fracture, which means the weld zone performs enough required performance. In addition, the results of the weld zone bending test, hardness test, macroscopic test, microscopic test, and the maximum hardness in HAZ were showing that the FCAW weld zone has fine quality.

The fatigue life and tensile strength of JLF-1 steel (Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta) and its TIG weldment were investigated at the room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Four kinds of test specimens, which associated with the rolling direction and the TIG welding direction were machined. The base metal of JLF-1 steel represented almost anisotropy in the tensile properties for the rolling direction. And the base metal of JLF-1 steel showed lower strength than that of TIG weldment. Also, the strength of all materials entirely decreased in accordance with elevating test temperature. Moreover, the fatigue limit of weld metal was largely increase than that of base metal at both temperatures. The fatigue limit of JLF-1 steel decreased in accordance with elevating test temperature. The fatigue limit of JLF-1 steel decreased in accordance with elevating test temperature. The SEM fractography of tensile test specimen showed conspicuous cleavage fracture of a radial shape. In case of fatigue life test specimen, there were so many striations at crack initiation region, and dimple was observed at final fracture region as a ductile fracture mode.

The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding by using acoustic emission (AE) signals and doing a source location for weld heat affected zone (HAZ) through tensile testing. This study was carried out an SWS 490A high strength steel for electric shield metal arc welding, SMAW; $CO_2$ gas metal arc welding, GMAW($CO_2$); and gas tungsten arc welding, GTAW/TIG. Data displays are based on the measured parameters of the AE signals, along with environmental variables such as time and load. For instance, Gutenberg-Richter magnitude-frequency relationship (G-R MFR) offers useful b-value in data analysis. Namely event identification, source location gives the X- and Y-coordinates of the AE source. And K-means clustering analysis by Euclidean distance confirmed that was powerful to source location. Generally, strength of welded metal zone was stronger than strength of base metal. As the result, confirmed certainly that fracture is produced in HAZ instead of welded metal zone from source location.
Laser beam welding is more advantageous compared to conventional methods. Titanium/Aluminium dissimilar alloy thin sheet metals are difficult to weld due to large difference in melting point. The performance of the weldment depends upon interlayer formation and distribution of intermetallics. During welding, aluminium gets lost at the temperature below the melting point of titanium. Therefore, it is needed to improve a new metal joining techniques between these two alloys. The present work is carried for welding TI6AL4V and AA2024 alloy by using Nd:YAG Pulsed laser welding unit. The performance of the butt welded interlayer structures are discussed in detail using hardness test and SEM. Test results reveal that interlayer fracture is caused near aluminium side due to low strength at the weld joint.
