Cancellation of Coherent and Incoherent Interferences By Improved Weighted Spatial Smoothing (개선된 Weighted Spatial Smoothing에 의한 코히런트 및 인코히런트 간섭제거)

  • Coherent interferences can be rejected using the weighted spatial smoothing (WSS) technique that allows us to be able to completely decorrrelate coherent signals with their arrival angles known. Its effective array aperture, however, can be greatly decreased, in particular when there exist many interferences, thereby degrading the rejection capability. In this paper, we propose an improved spatial smoothing (IWSS) which, with an increased effective array aperture, provides better performance than the existing WSS. Moreover, the proposed beamformer employs multiple constraints so that the coherent interferences are completely cancelled. Simulation shows the superiority of the IWSS in comparison with the conventional WSS.

Adaptive Motion Vector Smoothing for Improving Side Information in Distributed Video Coding

  • In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vector median filtering only to the blocks with unreliable motion vectors. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive motion vector smoothing algorithm improves the quality of the side information significantly while maintaining low complexity at the encoder in frame-based distributed video coding.

  • To improve the precision of relative positioning for GPS single frequency(L1) receiver, we accomplished the GPS data processing using the weighted smoothing techniques. The weighted phase smoothing technique is used to minimize the measurement error of pseudorange and position domain smoothing technique is adopted to make the complement of cycle-slip affection. we also considered some component errors like as ionospheric error, which are related with baseline length, and processed for several baselines (5, 10, 30, 40, and 150 km) to check the coverage area of this algorithm. This paper shows that weighted phase smoothing technique give more stable results after using this technique and the position domain smoothing technique can reduce the errors which are sensitive to the observational environment. Based on the results, we could find out that this algorithm is available for post-time and real-time applications and these techniques can be substitution methods which is able to get the high accuracy and precision without resolving the Integer ambiguity.

  • This paper proposes a new motion vector smoothing and motion compensation method to increase the frame rate of videos. The proposed method reduces false motion vector smoothing by improving the weight with reflecting accuracy to overcome the limitation of the conventional motion vector smoothing using the adaptively weighted vector median. Also, to improve the interpolated image quality of the conventional OBMC(Overlapped Block Motion Compensation), a scheme that divides an original block into 4 sub-blocks and then generates the interpolated frame using the reestimated motion vector for each sub-block is proposed. The simulation results prove that the proposed method can provide much better objective and subjective image quality than the conventional method.

Planar Curve Smoothing with Individual Weighted Averaging (개별적 가중치 평균을 이용한 2차원 곡선의 스무딩)

  • A traditional average smoothing method is designed for smoothing out noise, which, however, unintentionally results in smooth corner points on the curvature accompanied with a shrinkage of curves. In this paper, we propose a novel curve smoothing method via polygonal approximation of the input curve. The proposed method determines the smoothing weight for each point of the input curve based on the angle and approximation error between the approximated polygon and the input curve. The weight constrains a displacement of the point after smoothing not to significantly exceed the average noise error of the region. In the experiment, we observed that the resulting smoothed curve is close to the original curve since the point moves toward the average position of the noise after smoothing. As an application to digital cartography, for the same amount of smoothing, the proposed method yields a less area reduction even on small curve segments than the existing smoothing methods.

  • In this paper we propose a robust version of varying coefficient models, which is based on the regularized regression with L1 regularization. We use the iteratively reweighted least squares procedure to solve L1 regularized objective function of varying coefficient model in locally weighted regression form. It provides the efficient computation of coefficient function estimates and the variable selection for given value of smoothing variable. We present the generalized cross validation function and Akaike information type criterion for the model selection. Applications of the proposed model are illustrated through the artificial examples and the real example of predicting the effect of the input variables and the smoothing variable on the output.

  • The proposed seal identification procedure consists of the thresholding smoothing, rotation, thinning, and matching techniques.   • In this paper, a simple contour-preserving filtering algorithm is proposed. The goal of the contour-preserving filtering method is to remove noise ad granularity as the preprocessing for the image segmentation procedure. Our method finds edge map and separates the image into the edge region and the non-edge region using this edge map. For the non-edge region, typical smoothing filters could be used to remove the noise and the small areas during the segmentation procedure. The result of simulation shows that our method is slightly better than the typical methods such as the median filtering and gradient inverse weighted filtering in the point of view of analysis of variance (ANOVA).

  • In this paper, the differential weighted algorithm proposed in order to improve th noise smoothing characteristics of conventional Median filter and FIR-Median Hybrid filter. Performance of some image restoration filter(median filter, FIR-Median Hybird filter, FIR-Median Hybrid filter to proposed differential weighted algorithm) are compared and evaluated on the noise smoothing characteristics and sharp edge conservation characteristics. Test and Real images used in this paper are Lenna and Urological images corrupted by impulse, gaussian, exponential and laplacian noise. Experimental results show that the FIR-Median Hybrid filter applied to the differential weighted algorithm are comparatively superior to others. But the filter orders have increased, the more time consumed to image processing. Hence if the adequate filtering by the type of image is selected. now after a great support will be take consideration into the various parts of application by computer science and of medical image processing.

Recursive Morphological Hybrid Median Filter (반복적 수리 형태학을 이용한 하이브리드 메디안 필터)

  • Though median filter is used for removing noise and smoothing image. But, the result of it has distortion around edge. And then, this paper proposes new noise removing algorithm by recursive morphological processing. Basic operation is same each other, but there is some different processing method between recursive morphology and general morphology theory. This recursive morphological filter can be viewed as the weighted order static filter, and then it has a weighted SE(structuring element). Especially using this algorithm to remove the 10% gaussian noise, this paper confirmed that PSNR is improved about 0.642~1.5757 db reserving edge well better than the results of the traditional median filter.
