  • The Weibull distribution is a good candidate for accurate probabilistic model with its rich shape-forming ability and relatively simple CDF(cumulative distribution function). If there are sufficient information to get convincible mean and variance for a probabilistic event, reliable parameters of the Weibull distribution can be determined uniquely. However, sufficient information is not given as usual. There needs more deliberate model building method for that case. This Paper presents an effective parameter estimation technique for Weibull distribution with limited failure data.

  • In order to evaluate variation of fatigue life of mechanical components including engineering plastics, it is important to estimate probabilistic strain-life curves to accurately define the variation of fatigue characteristics. This paper intends to provide new assessment of P-$\varepsilon$-N (probabilistic strain-life curves) for considering the variation of fatigue characteristics in polyacetal. The fatigue strain controlled tests were conducted under constant 50% humidity and room temperature condition by a universal testing machine at strain ratio, R=0. A practical procedure is introduced to evaluate probabilistic strain-life curves. Three probabilistic distributions were used for generating P-$\varepsilon$-N curves such as normal, 2-parameter and 3-parameter Weibull. In this study, 3-parameter Weibull distribution was found to be most appropriate among assumed distributions when the probability distributions of the fatigue characteristic were examined using chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The more appropriate P-$\varepsilon$-N curves for these materials are generated by the proposed method considering 3-parameter Weibull distribution.

세라믹스의 파괴강도에 관한 확률론적 해석 (A Probabilistic Analysis on Fracture Strength of Ceramics)

  • Weibull distribution function is applied very successfully to the strength of brittle materials such as ceramics and the weakest link model is applied to explain the ovents. This paper deals with the effect of specimen size on the strength of ceramics. The values of tensile strength were calculated by the Monte-Calro simuation. The tensile strength obtained was plotted on Weibull probabillity papers and represented by the 3-parameter Weibull distribution. The strength distribution function was compared with the theoretical weibull distribution. As a result, it was found that the Weibull shape parameter was changed due to the size and there was a possibility of a false indication as if the weakest link model holds good. We should be very careful when we apply the Weibull statistics to estimate the strength of products.

우리나라 해역별 해양환경에 최적화된 확률모형 개발 (Development of Probabilistic Models Optimized for Korean Marine Environment Varying from Sea to Sea Based on the Three-parameter Weibull Distribution)

  • 요 지 : 본 연구에서는 먼저 우리나라 해역별 해양환경 특성이 담긴 장기 파랑 관측자료로부터 Goda 모형을 활용하여 파력과 양력 시계열자료를 생성하였다. 이어 이렇게 생성된 시계열자료부터 Three-parameter Weibull distribution에 기반한 파력과 양력 확률모형을 개발하였다. 해역별로 다른 우리나라 해양환경은 파력과 양력 확률모형 모수에서도 그 차이를 확연하게 드러내었다. 충분히 발달한 풍성 파가 우월한 남해안의 경우 큰 Scale Coefficient, 작은 Location Coefficient, 1.3 전후의 Shape Coefficient로 특정되는 것을 확인하였다. 이에 비해 파랑의 성장이 취송거리에 의해 제한되는 서해를 마주하고 있는 군산의 경우 작은 Scale Coefficient, 큰 Location Coefficient, 2.0 전후의 Shape Coefficient로 특정되었다. 서해와 남해가 만나는 해역을 마주하고 있는 목포의 경우 작은 Scale Coefficient, 큰 Location Coefficient, 제일 작은 Shape Coefficient를 지녀 남해와 서해의 해양환경이 혼재한다는 사실도 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구의 주목적은 마그네슘합금의 피로균열성장거동을 지배하는 파라미터들의 확률론적 특성을 규명하는 것이다. 피로균열전파실험은 AZ31 마그네슘합금의 CT 시편을 이용하여 통계적으로 수행하였으며, 시편두께, 하중비, 최대하중 등의 여러 가지 실험조건으로 실온에서 진행하였다. 이 실험을 통하여 획득한 통계적 피로 데이터를 이용하여 피로거동 파라미터의 확률적 변동성 해석과 함께 확률분포 적합성을 고찰하였다. 균열성장속도계수는 확률적으로 매우 큰 변동성을 나타내는 파라미터로 밝혀졌으며, 반면에 균열성장속도지수는 매우 작은 변동성을 나타냄으로써 재료상수로 볼 수 있을 것이다. 피로거동 파라미터인 균열성장속도계수와 균열성장속도지수에 가장 적합한 확률분포는 3-파라미터 Weibull 분포이며, 2-파라미터 Weibull 분포는 균열성장속도계수의 경우에만 양호한 적합성을 나타낸다는 것을 규명하였다.

일정진폭하중하의 확률론적 피로균열전파거동 (Probabilistic Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior under Constant Amplitude Loads)

  • In this paper, an analysis of fatigue crack growth behavior from a statistical point of view has been carried out. Fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on sixteen pre-cracked compact tension (CT) specimens of the pressure vessel (SPV50) steel in controlled identical load and environmental conditions. The assessment of the statistical distribution of fatigue crack growth experimental data obtained from SPV50 steel was studied and also the correlation of the parameter C and m in the Paris-Erdogan law was discussed. The probability distribution function of fatigue crack growth life seems to follow the 3-parameter Weibull. The fatigue crack growth rate seems to follow the 3-parameter Weibull and the log-normal distribution. The coefficient of variation (COV) of fatigue crack growth life was observed to decrease as the crack grows. Fatigue crack growth rate data shows a normal distribution for both m and logC. A strong negative linear correlation exists between the coefficient C and the exponent m.

확률분포를 이용한 복합재료의 강도예측 (Prediction of Laminate Composite Strength Using Probabilistic Approach)

  • 복합재료 적층판의 최종강도를 점증적 파손 해석방법을 사용하여 예측하였다. 플라이 강도를 확률분포로 가정했을 경우와 상수로 가정했을 경우 각각의 최종강도를 예측하였다. 복합재료의 강도에 대한 확률분포인 Weibull 분포를 이용하여 임의의 강도 값을 얻은 후 이 값을 Tsai-Hill 파손식에 대입하여 파손여부를 판정하고 파손이 일어나면 재료의 물성을 떨어뜨렸다. 이 방법에 의해서 얻어진 결과를 플라이의 강도를 상수로 가정하여 해석한 경우와의 차이에 대하여 고찰하였다. 결과적으로 두 경우 모두 실험치와 약간의 오차를 보였지만 파손의 경향성에 있어서는 확률분포를 이용한 강도해석이 실험값과 더 근사한 결과를 보였다.

Reliability over time of wind turbines steel towers subjected to fatigue

  • A probabilistic approach that combines structural demand hazard analysis with cumulative damage assessment is presented and applied to a steel tower of a wind turbine. The study presents the step by step procedure to compare the reliability over time of the structure subjected to fatigue, assuming: a) a binomial Weibull annual wind speed, and b) a traditional Weibull probability distribution function (PDF). The probabilistic analysis involves the calculation of force time simulated histories, fatigue analysis at the steel tower base, wind hazard curves and structural fragility curves. Differences in the structural reliability over time depending on the wind speed PDF assumed are found, and recommendations about selecting a real PDF are given.

  • The evaluation of specimen thickness effect of fatigue crack growth life by the simulation of probabilistic fatigue crack growth is presented. In this paper, the material resistance to fatigue crack growth is treated as a spatial stochastic process, which varies randomly on the crack surface. Using the previous experimental data, the non-Gaussian(eventually Weibull, in this report) random fields simulation method is applied. This method is useful to estimate the probability distribution of fatigue crack growth life and the variability due to specimen thickness by simulating material resistance to fatigue crack growth along a crack path.

크랭크스로 단조강의 피로수명의 확률분포 추정 (Estimation of Probability Distribution of Fatigue Lives in Crank Throw Forged Steel)

  • Because of the severe service environment of the large marine vessel, the fatigue strength and its evaluation play an important role in design and maintenance of marine crankshaft. The aim of this work is to investigate the probability distribution of fatigue lives in crank throw forged steel and to develop the methodology for estimation of the probabilistic design fatigue strength. Detailed studies were performed on the constant amplitude axial loading fatigue test. The experiments were controlled by stress ratio of -1 and 15Hz frequency for each stress level. The considerable variability of fatigue life was observed in each stress level under rigidly controlled constant fatigue testing conditions. The fatigue life of crank throw forged steel was well followed the log-normal and Weibull distribution. In addition, it can be used for the estimation of probabilistic design fatigue strength by using the proposed methodology.
