Framework Architecture of Intrusion Detection System against Denial-of-Service Attack, especially for Web Server System (웹서버를 위한, 서비스 거부 공격에 강한 침입탐지시스템 구성)

  • The pattern matching part of Intrusion Detection System based on misuse-detection mechanism needs much processing time and resources, and it has become a bottleneck in system performance. Moreover, it derives denial-of-service attack. In this paper, we propose (1) framework architecture that is strong against denial-of-service attack and (2) efficient pattern matching method especially for web server system. By using both of these 2 methods, we can maintain web server system efficiently secure against attacks including denial-of-service.

  • In order to achieve the ease of development and to facilitate the maintenance of codes for complex Ajax (Asynchronous Java Script and XML)-based web clients, this paper proposes a CVC (Communicator-View-Controller) architecture pattern by modifying the well-known MVC (Model-View-Controller) framework. By composing the Communicator of codes for asynchronous data retrieval, which is common to Ajax-based clients, the proposed architecture pattern is able to cut out the graphic design related codes to constitute the View layer. Based on such declarative generalization of complex web-client codes, Ajax-related codes can be easily modularized and efficiently reused in development and maintenance stages, and graphics design can be done separately regardless of the other business logic related codes development, resulting in highly efficient development and maintenance of complex Ajax-based web clients.

  • The information available on the Internet has become widely used, primarily due to the ability of Web based E-Commerce and M-Commerce Retrieval Engines to find useful information for users. However, present day Commerce Retrieval Engines are far from perfect because they return results based on simple user keyword matches without any regard for the concepts in which the user is interested. In this thesis, we design and evaluate a Recommender system for web context aware based information retrieval using user profiles. Also, we designed personalization framework in ubiquitous environment based both e-commerce and m-commerce and presented the interaction of user profile including User XQuery pattern in semantic web.

  • With the advent of Web 2.0, the use of RESTful web services is expected to overtake that of the traditional SOAP-based web services. Recently, the growing number of RESTful web services available on the web raises the challenging issue of how to locate the desired web services. However, the existing keyword searching method is insufficient for the bad recall and the bad precision. In this paper, we propose a novel building semantic ontology method which employs both the clustering technique based on association rules and the semantic analysis technique based on patterns. From this method, we can generate ontologies automatically, reduce the burden of semantic annotations, and support more efficient web services search. We ran our experiments on the subset of 168 RESTful web services downloaded from the PregrammableWeb site. The experimental results show that our method achieves up to 35% improvement for recall performance, and up to 18% for precision performance compared to the existing keyword searching method.

Automatic Extraction of Dependencies between Web Components and Database Resources in Java Web Applications

  • Web applications typically interact with databases. Therefore, it is very crucial to understand which web components access which database resources when maintaining web apps. Existing research identifies interactions between Java web components, such as JavaServer Pages and servlets but does not extract dependencies between the web components and database resources, such as tables and attributes. This paper proposes a dynamic analysis of Java web apps, which extracts such dependencies from a Java web app and represents them as a graph. The key responsibility of our analysis method is to identify when web components access database resources. To fulfill this responsibility, our method dynamically observes the database-related objects provided in the Java standard library using the proxy pattern, which can be applied to control access to a desired object. This study also experiments with open source web apps to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

A Study of Web based Screening for Visual Stress Syndrome (웹 기반의 시각적 스트레스 증후군 선별에 관한 연구)

  • A visual stress may provoke migraine, cephalalgia, intervene a long term reading and learning capability and reduce the productivity of a laborer who uses computer for a good while. In this study, a web based screening tool for visual stress was developed, it applied to 72 visually normal young persons in parallel with traditional questionnaire about symptoms of visual stress. To estimate visual stress, It is proposed to measure difference of visual search time of Han Gul characters as targets between visual stressful pattern and non-visual stressful pattern as global background of characters. As a result of test, 5 subjects were screened whose mean visual search time in the stressful pattern with 6 CPD spatial frequency increase significantly more than in none stressful pattern(t-test, one-tailed, p=$1.0407\times10^{-11}$). 2 of them were diagnosed as mild visual stress syndrome in the clinic. None had visual distortion and 50% of subjects had visual discomfort in results of the questionnaire. Correlation between visual search time increase rate and normalized number of visual discomfort may be slight(C. coefficient=0.1355). This study may contribute as a basic research for screening person with migraine, visual reading disabilities and VDT syndrome. It is required to apply the test to visual reading disabilities, migraine with visual distortion and/or visual discomfort as well as normal person for higher reliability of the screening tool.

  • There have been researches about analyzing the information retrieval patterns of log file to efficiently obtain the users' information research patters in web environment. The methods frequently used in their researches is to suggest the algorithms by which the frequent one is derived from the path traversal patterns in efficient way. But one of their general problems is not to provide the proper solution in case of complex, that is, general topological patterns. Therefore this paper tries to suggest a efficient algorithm after defining the general information retrieval pattern.

  • Because web documents become creation and disappearance rapidly, users require the recommend system that offers users to browse the web document conveniently and correctly. One largely untapped source of knowledge about large data collections is contained in the cumulative experiences of individuals finding useful information in the collection. Recommendation systems attempt to extract such useful information by capturing and mining one or more measures of the usefulness of the data. The existing Information Filtering system has the shortcoming that it must have user's profile. And Collaborative Filtering system has the shortcoming that users have to rate each web document first and in high-quantity, low-quality environments, users may cover only a tiny percentage of documents available. And dynamic recommendation system using the user browsing pattern also provides users with unrelated web documents. This paper classifies these web documents using the similarity between the web documents under the web document type and extracts the user browsing sequential pattern DB using the users' session information based on the web server log file. When user approaches the web document, the proposed Dynamic recommendation system recommends Top N-associated web documents set that has high similarity between current web document and other web documents and recommends set that has sequential specificity using the extracted informations and users' session information.

MVC Architecture-aware Restructuring of Web Apps (MVC 아키텍처 인지하는 웹 앱 재구조화)

  • Web apps have a problem that they cause same data to be repetitively retrieved, processed, and displayed when web browsers load different web pages. To resolve the problem, this paper presents and evaluates a new method for restructuring of Java web apps. This approach dynamically analyzes Java web apps from the MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture point of view and identifies redundant data by using the composite view pattern. Then the input apps are restructured in order not to load the redundant data when users make requests for new pages. This restructuring generates new web apps that conform to the MVC architecture and improve the performance of input web apps. The experimental results showed that when compared to legacy web apps, the restructured apps' response time was reduced on desktop PCs and mobile devices by 38% and 55%, respectively. In addition, case studies using open-source web apps showed the applicability of the proposed approach.
