  • We have seen a rapid development of multimedia intustry as computer evolves and the internet has changed our way of life dramatically in these days. There we several attempts to teach elementary statistics on the web but most of them are based on commercial products. The need for statistical data analysis and decision making based on those analysis is growing. In this article we try to show one way of reaching that goal by using a server side scripting language PHP3 toghether with extra graphical module and statistical distribution module on the web. We showed some elementary exploratory graphical data analysis and statistical inferences. There are plenty of room of improvements to make it a full blown statistical analysis tool on the web in the new future. All the programs and databases used in our article we public programs. The main engine PHP3 is included as an apache web server module so it is very light and fast. It will be much better when the PHP4(ZEND) will be officially out in terms of processing speed.

  • Since the existing Web search engines don't sufficiently reflect user's search intent, it is very difficult to find out accurate information that users want to find. Therefore, a lot of researches, study for personalized search, to enhance satisfaction of Web search results by analyzing search pattern and applying it to search are in progress in these days. Web searchers can more efficiently find information and easily obtain appropriate information through the personalized search. In this paper, we propose the personalized search based on community through the analysis of web users' query patterns and interest. Consequently, when applying query frequency, interest and community to web search, we are able to the confirm that the search results which hit to the search intent of the individual are provided.

  • In this paper, a web-based seed phenotype visualization support system is proposed to extract and visualize data such as the surface color, length, area, perimeter and compactness of seed, which is phenotype information from the image of soybean/rice seeds. This system systematically stores data extracted from seeds in databases, and provides a web-based user interface that facilitates the analysis of data by researchers using data tables and charts. Conventional seed characteristic studies have been manually measured by humans, but the system developed in this paper allows researchers to simply upload seed images for analysis and obtain seed's numerical data after image processing. It is expected that the proposed system will be able to obtain time efficiency and remove spatial restriction, if it is used in seed characterization research, and it will be easy to analyze through systematic management of research results and visualization of the phenotype characteristics.

  • The International HapMap Project and the Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP) provide plentiful resources on human genome information to the public. However, this kind of information is limited because of the small sample size in both databases. A Genome-Wide Association Study has been conducted with 8,842 Korean subjects as a part of the Korea Association Resource (KARE) project. In an effort to build a publicly available browsing system for genome data resulted from large scale KARE GWAS, we developed the KARE browser. This browser provides users with a large amount of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) information comprising 1.5 million SNPs from population-based cohorts of 8,842 samples. KAREBrowser was based on the generic genome browser (GBrowse), a web-based application tool developed for users to navigate and visualize the genomic features and annotations in an interactive manner. All SNP information and related functions are available at the web site http://ksnp.cdc. go.kr/karebrowser/.

  • This paper deals with an integrated system that facilitates researchers to do motif and domain search effectively and systematically. The system we developed is constructed on the basis of the integration of various resources related to motif, domain, and protein family. Those resources that can be classified into databases and search programs are dispersed to be available in Internet. In order to develop this system, we extracted core contents of diverse databases, which are required to analyze the protein function in terms of motifs or domains, to construct local databases and installed motif or domain search programs on our server, which corresponding database has as its own search program. Diverse utilities and CGI (Common Gateway Interface) programs make the databases and the search programs interlocked and web-based graphical user interfaces integrate all the components of our system. Employing our integrated system, end-users can receive its one-stop service to do protein function analysis systematically and effectively, without surfing many sites in Internet and wasting time over integrating search results.

  • Since documents on the Web are naturally partitioned into many document databases, the efficient information retrieval (IR) process requires identifying the document databases that are most likely to provide relevant documents to the query and then querying the identified document databases. We first introduce a neural net agent for such an efficient IR, and then propose the hierarchically organized multi-agent IR system in order to scale our agent with the large number of document databases. In this system, the hierarchical organization of neural net agents reduced the total training cost at an acceptable level without degrading the IR effectiveness in terms of precision and recall. In the experiment, we introduce two neural net IR systems based on single agent approach and multi-agent approach respectively, and evaluate the performance of those systems by comparing their experimental results to those of the conventional statistical systems.

  • Following a joint OECD/NEA-IAEA-sponsored meeting to define the current role and future perspectives of the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to nuclear reactor safety problems, three Writing Groups were created, under the auspices of the NEA working group WGAMA, to produce state-of-the-art reports on different aspects of the subject. The work of the second group, WG2, was to document the existing assessment databases for CFD simulation in the context of Nuclear Reactor Safety (NRS) analysis, to gain a measure of the degree of quality and trust in CFD as a numerical analysis tool, and to take initiatives to extend the existing databases. The group worked over the period of 2003-2007 and produced a final state-of-the-art report. The present paper summarises the material gathered during the study, illustrating the points with a few highlights. A total of 22 safety issues were identified for which the application of CFD was considered to potentially bring real benefits in terms of better understanding and increased safety. A list of the existing databases was drawn up and synthesised, both from the nuclear area and from other parallel, non-nuclear, industrial activities. The gaps in the technology base were also identified and discussed. In order to initiate new ways of bringing experimentalists and numerical analysts together, an international workshop -- CFD4NRS (the first in a series) -- was organised, a new blind benchmark activity was set up based on turbulent mixing in T-junctions, and a Wiki-type web portal was created to offer online access to the material put together by the group giving the reader the opportunity to update and extend the contents to keep the information source topical and dynamic.

  • Caching query results and reusing them in processing of subsequent queries is an important query optimization technique. Materialized view and view indexing are the representative examples of such a technique. The two schemes had received much attention for relational databases, and have been investigated for XML data since XML emerged as the standard for data exchange on the Web. In XML view indexing, XML view xv which is the result of an XML query is represented as an XML view index(XVI), a structure containing the identifiers of xv's underlying XML elements as well as the information on xv. Since XVI for xv stores just the identifiers of the XML elements not the elements themselves, when xv is requested, its XVI should be materialized against xv's underlying XML documents. In this paper, we address the problem of integrating an XML view index management system with an RDBMS based XML storage system. The proposed system was implemented in Java on Windows 2000 Server with each of two different commercial RDBMSs, and used in evaluating performance improvement through XML view indexing as well as its overheads. The experimental results revealed that XML view indexing was very effective with an RDBMS based XML storage system while its overhead was negligible.

  • Recently, product design innovation to improve user experience has been perceived as a core element of enterprise competitiveness due to the fierce market competition and decrease of the technological gap between companies, but there is insufficient services to support the product experience evaluation of small and medium-sized companies (SMCs). The aim of this study is to develop a web-based product user experience evaluation and certification system supporting product design practices for SMCs. For system interface design, we conducted systematic functional requirement elicitation methods such as user survey, workflow analysis, user task definition, and function definition. Then main functions, information structure, navigation method, and detailed graphic user interfaces were developed with consideration of user interactions and requirements. In particular, it provides the databases for evaluation efficiency to support the evaluation process above a certain level of performance and efficiency, and knowledge databases to utilize in the evaluation and product design improvement. With help of the developed service platform, It is expected that the service platform would enhance SMCs' product development capability with regard to the user experience evaluation by connecting the consulting firms with SMCs.
