A rotor run-up or run-down process provide more useful information for modal analysis than normal operation conditions. A traditional difficulty associated with rotor run-up or run-down analysis is the non-stationary nature of vibration data. This paper compares Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and the wavelets analysis in these non-stationary signal analyses. An Adaptive Wavelet Analysis (AWT) is proposed to analyze these signals. Although simulations and experiments in a simple rotor-bearing system show that both STFT and AWT can be used to analyze non-stationary vibration signals in rotor dynamics, proposed AWT provides better results than STFT analysis. From the amplitude-frequency curve obtained by AWT, the modal frequency and damping ratio are calculated. This paper also analyzes the characteristics of signals when the shaft touches the outer hoop in a run-up process. The AWT can give a good result in this complex dynamic analysis of the touching process.
The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of site is very important in the various fields of geotechnical engineering. To obtain shear wave velocity profile, various in-situ seismic methods using surface waves have been developed. These surface wave based in-situ seismic methods have their own strength and weakness. In this study, new seismic site characterization method using the harmonic wavelet analysis of wave (HWAW) was proposed to overcome some of weaknesses in the existing surface wave based seismic site characterization methods. HWAW method which is based on time-frequency analysis using harmonic wavelet transform have been developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves. In order to estimate the applicability of HWAW method, field tests were performed. Through field applications and comparison with other test results, the applicability of the proposed method were verified.

Arc fault detector based on multilevel DWT with analysis of high-frequency noise components over 100 kHz is proposed in this study to improve the performance in detecting serial arcs and distinguishing them from inverter noise in PV systems. PV inverters generally operate at a frequency range of 20-50 kHz for switching operation and maximum power tracking control, and the effect of these frequency components on the signal for arc detection leads to negative arc detection. High-speed ADC and multilevel DWT are used in this study to analyze frequency components above 100 kHz. Such high frequency components are less influenced by inverter noise and utilized to detect as well as separate DC series arc from inverter noise. Arc detectors identify the input current of PV inverters using a Rogowski coil. The sensed signal is filtered, amplified, and used in 800kSPS ADC and DWT analysis and arc occurrence determination in DSP. An arc detection simulation facility in UL1699B was constructed and AFD tests the proposed detector were conducted to verify the performance of arc detection and performance of distinction of the negative arc. The satisfactory performance of the arc detector meets the standard of arc detection and extinguishing time of UL1699B with an arc detection time of approximately 0.11 seconds.
This research applied to Wavelet transform that have soft resolution time and frequency area for stage of Hadong2 station in order to extract to discharge component by rainfall and tidal level component by tide. Approximation component(A6) of last level for wavelet decomposition displayed the biggest energy value 87.77%, and detail component(D3) energy value was 10.70% with periodicity of semidiurnal tide type(about 12 hours). Also skewness, kurtosis values of D3 have similar to tidal level of Yeosu. Approximation component(A6), Detail component(D6, D5) for Hadong2 stage was runoff component, and detail component(D4, D3, D2) was tide component according to effect of tide.
Considering the vast usage of time-history dynamic analyses to calculate structural responses and lack of sufficient and suitable earthquake records, generation of artificial accelerograms is very necessary. The main target of this paper is to present a novel method based on nonstationary Kanai-Tajimi model and wavelet transform to generate more artificial earthquake records, which are compatible with target spectrum. In this regard, the generalized nonstationary Kanai-Tajimi model to include the nonstationary evaluation of amplitude and dominant frequency of ground motion and properties of wavelet transform is used to generate ground acceleration time history. Application of the method for El Centro 1940 earthquake and two Iranian earthquakes (Tabas 1978 and Manjil 1990) is presented. It is shown that the model and identification algorithms are able to accurately capture the nonstationary features of these earthquake accelerograms. The statistical characteristics of the spectral response of the generated accelerograms are compared with those for the actual records to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. Also, for comparison of the presented method with other methods, the response spectra of the synthetic accelerograms compared with the models of Fan and Ahmadi (1990) and Rofooei et al. (2001) and it is shown that the response spectra of the synthetic accelerograms with the method of this paper are close to those of actual earthquakes.

In this paper, we improved the clarity and quality of the radar imaging by applying motion compensation for time-frequency transform in B-ISAR imaging. The proposed motion compensation algorithm using UWB radar is verified. B-ISAR algorithm procedure and time-frequency transform for improved motion compensation are provided for theoretical ground. The image was created by a UWB Radar B-ISAR imaging algorithm method. Also, creating a B-ISAR imaging algorithm for motion compensation of time-frequency transformation method was used. The B-ISAR Imaging algorithm is implemented using STFT(Short-Time Fourier Transform), GWT(Gabor Wavelet Transform), and WVD(Wigner-Ville Distribution) approaches. The performance of STFT is compared with the GWT and WVD algorithms. It is found that the WVD image shows more clarity and decreased spread phenomenon than other methods.

This paper proposes a method for recognition of traffic signs using wavelet transform and shape information from the segmented traffic sign regions. It first segments traffic sign candidate regions by connected component algorithm from binary images, obtained by utilizing the RGB color ratio of each pixel in the image, and then extracts actual traffic sign regions based on their symmetries on X- and Y-axes. In the recognition stage, it utilizes shape information including moment edge correlogram and the number of crossings which concentric circular patterns from region center intersects with frequency information extracted by wavelet transform It finally performs recognition by measuring similarity with the templates in the database. The experimental results show the validity of the proposed method from geometric transformations and environmental factors.

As the increasing HIF(High Impedance Fault) with the arc cannot be easily detected for the low fault current magnitude compared to actual load in distribution line. However, the arcing current shows that the magnitude varies with time and the signal is asymmetric. In addition, discontinuous changes occur at starting point of arc. Considering these characteristics, wavelet transformation of actual current data shows difference between before and after the fault. Althogh raw data(detail coefficient) of wavelet transform may not be directly applied to HIF detection logic in a device, there are several developing methods of HIF monitoring data using the original wavelet coefficients. In this paper, a simple and effective developing methods of HIF monitoring data were analized by using the signal data through an actual HIF experiment to apply them to economic devices. The methods using the sumation of the wavelet coefficient squares in one cycle of the fundamental frequency as the energies of the wavelet coefficeits and the sumation of the absolute values were compared. Besides, the improved method which less occupies H/W resouces and can be applied to field detection devices was proposed. and also Verification of this HIF detection method through field test on distribution system in KEPCO power testing center was performed.

A software package to classify acoustic emission (AE) signals using the wavelet transform and the neural network was developed Both of the continuous and the discrete wavelet transforms are considered, and the error back-propagation neural network is adopted as m artificial neural network algorithm. The signals acquired during the 3-point bending test of specimens which have artificial defects on weld zone are used for the classification of the defects. Features are extracted from the time-frequency plane which is the result of the wavelet transform of signals, and the neural network classifier is tamed using the extracted features to classify the signals. It has been shown that the developed software package is useful to classify AE signals. The difference between the classification results by the continuous and the discrete wavelet transforms is also discussed.

In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm of pulse generation and detection for the UWB multimedia communication system. The existing UWB systems using Gaussian pulse have some difficulties to cope with bandwidth limitation and frequency transition. In this paper, we introduce a new pulse generation method, which is able to control the bandwidth and center frequency that applies to the frequency modulation method, thus the proposed algorithm could improve the detection performance of receiving. And we proposed the multi channel transmission algorithm which transmits 1 channel synthesized at same time using the wavelet synthesis filter. Because of wavelet filter's perfect reconstruction property, the BER(Bit Error Rate) of transmission data is not changed by the number of accessed user. BER is changed only the property of channel transmission. By the results of simulation, when shift SNR from 2dB to 8dB on AWGN channel, we confirmed that the proposed algerian has $3.9063{\times}10^{-4}$ BER at 4dB SNR(AWGN channel).
