This paper describes a theoretical model and acoustic analysis of hysteresis of contacting surfaces subject to compression pressure. Contacting surfaces known to be nonlinear and hysteretic is considered as a simple spring that has a complex stiffness connecting discontinuous displacements between two solid contact boundaries. Mathematical formulation for 1-D interfacial wave propagation between two contacting solids is developed using the complex spring model to derive the dispersion relation between the interface wave speed and the complex interfacial stiffness. Existence of the interface wave propagating along the hysteretic interface is studied in theory and discussed by investigating the solution to the dispersion equation. Unlike the linear interface without hysteresis, there can exist only one distinct mode of interface waves for the hysteretic interface, which is anti-symmetric motion. The anti-symmetric mode of interface wave propagates with the velocity faster than the Rayleigh surface wave but less than the shear wave depending on the interfacial stiffness. If the contacting surfaces are compressed so much that the linear interfacial stiffness is very high, the hysteretic stiffness does not affect the interface wave velocity. However, it has an effect on the speed of interface wave for a loosely contact surfaces with a relatively low linear stiffness. It is also found that the phase velocity of anti-symmetric wave mode converges to the shear wave velocity in despite of the linear stiffness value if the hysteretic stiffness approaches 0.5.
In this paper, the magnetic field influence on the wave propagation characteristics of graphene nanosheets is examined within the frame work of a two-variable plate theory. The small-scale effect is taken into consideration based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. For more accurate analysis of graphene sheets, the proposed theory contains two scale parameters related to the nonlocal and strain gradient effects. A derivation of the differential equation is conducted, employing extended principle of Hamilton and solved my means of analytical solution. A refined trigonometric two-variable plate theory is employed in Kinematic relations. The scattering relation of wave propagation in solid bodies which captures the relation of wave number and the resultant frequency is also investigated. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling can provide accurate wave dispersion results of the graphene nanosheets as compared to some cases in the literature. It is shown that the wave dispersion characteristics of graphene sheets are influenced by magnetic field, elastic foundation and nonlocal parameters. Numerical results are presented to serve as benchmarks for future analyses of graphene nanosheets.
Up to now, there have been numerous investigations about the effect of diffusion on the wave propagation in gaseous plasmas, but not so much in semiconductor magnetoplasmas. However, currently, it becomes the centor of interest to work with the latter problem, and this paper deals with the dispersion equation including diffusion effect in the latter case to see how diffusion affects the equation in which diffusion term is neglected in the first place, and the analysis is based on the assumption that the plasma can be treated as a hydrodynamical fluid, since, from a macroscopic view point, the plasma interacting with a magnetic field can be considered as a magneto-hydrodynamical fluid, an electrically conducting fluid subjected to electromagnetic force, and the system is linear. The results of the relation and computation show that in the non-streaming case the diffusion terms appear in the equation as perturbation terms and the amplitude of the wave vector changes parabolically with the variation of the angular frequency and the longitudinal modes are observed.
We have experimentally investigated the fiber four-wave mixing effect on equal spaced multichannel optical transmission system with dispersion shifted fiber. To reduce the fiber four-wave mixing effect, we set the polarization states of the adjacent channels to be orthogonal each other by using polarization controller. In this case, we can reduce the transmission power penalty by 1.5 dB compared with that of equal polarization states.

The wave analysis of cylinders combined rigidly with a finite plate to identify the effect of the plate on the wave propagation. This paper uses the mobility and impedance coupling method to combine a infinite-length cylinder with the plate, and obtains the coupling forces induced by the vibration of the structure. The waveguide finite element method is used to calculate the wave characteristics of the cylinder excited by the forces. From the results, the dispersion diagram can be obtained. It contains the characteristics induced by the vibration and length of the internal plate. It also shows the wave propagation of elastic waves sustained in the cylinder.
This paper is concerned with the wave propagation behavior of rotating functionally graded temperature-dependent nanoscale beams subjected to thermal loading based on nonlocal strain gradient stress field. Uniform, linear and nonlinear temperature distributions across the thickness are investigated. Thermo-elastic properties of FG beam change gradually according to the Mori-Tanaka distribution model in the spatial coordinate. The nanobeam is modeled via a higher-order shear deformable refined beam theory which has a trigonometric shear stress function. The governing equations are derived by Hamilton's principle as a function of axial force due to centrifugal stiffening and displacement. By applying an analytical solution and solving an eigenvalue problem, the dispersion relations of rotating FG nanobeam are obtained. Numerical results illustrate that various parameters including temperature change, angular velocity, nonlocality parameter, wave number and gradient index have significant effect on the wave dispersion characteristics of the understudy nanobeam. The outcome of this study can provide beneficial information for the next generation researches and exact design of nano-machines including nanoscale molecular bearings and nanogears, etc.

We present an experimental and numerical study of spectral profiles of effective group indices of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) waveguides and of their chromatic-dispersion effect on the four-wave-mixing (FWM) signal generation. The a-Si:H waveguides of 220-nm thickness and three different widths of 400, 450 and 500 nm were fabricated by using the conventional CMOS device processes on a $2-{\mu}m$ thick $SiO_2$ bottom layer deposited on 8-inch Si wafers. Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) were formed with the a-Si:H waveguides, and used for precise measurement of the effective group indices and thus for determination of the spectral profile of the waveguides' chromatic dispersion. The wavelength ranges for the FWM-signal generation were about 45, 75 and 55 nm for the 400-, 450- and 500-nm-wide waveguides, respectively, at the pump wavelength of 1532 nm. A widest wavelength range for the efficient FWM process was observed with the 450-nm-wide waveguide having a zero-dispersion near the pump wavelength.
The present investigation deals with the analysis of wave motion in the layer of an anisotropic, initially stressed, fiber reinforced thermoelastic medium. Secular equations for symmetric and skew-symmetric modes of wave propagation in completely separate terms are derived. The amplitudes of displacements and temperature distribution were also obtained. Finally, the numerical solution was carried out for Cobalt and the dispersion curves, amplitudes of displacements and temperature distribution for symmetric and skew-symmetric wave modes are presented to evince the effect of anisotropy. Some particular cases are also deduced.
In this research, Rayleigh instability of gas-liquid flow in annular pipe is studied in film boiling using viscous potential flow. Viscous potential flow is a kind of approximation of gas-liquid interface considering velocity field as potential including viscosity. A dispersion relation is obtained including the effect of heat and mass transfer and viscosity. New expression for dispersion relation in film boiling and critical wave number is obtained. Viscosity and heat and mass transfer have a stabilizing effect on instability and its effect appears in maximum growth rate and critical wave number. And the existence of marginal stability region is shown.

In this paper, the characteristics of compensation for interferenced mid-channel signal by neighbor channels through four-wave mixing (FWM) process dominantly is investigated as a function of channel input power, fiber dispersion coefficient and transmission length in WDM system with equally spaced channels. The compensation method used in this research is mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI). The highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) is used as a nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in order to compensate wideband WDM signals. First, we confirmed that the effect of FWM on channel interference is gradually reduced as fiber dispersion coefficient becomes gradually smaller, independent of signal format. And, we confirmed that RZ is better than NRZ as a modulation format for transmitting high power channel with allowable reception quality. But realization of flexible WDM systems regardless of channel number variation is possible by using NRZ rather than RZ format.
