The study investigated the nondestructive characteristics of damage, caused by law-velocity impact, on symmetric cross-ply laminates, composed of [0o/90o]16s, 24s, 32s, 48s. The thickness of the laminates was 2, 3, 4 and 6 mm, respectively. The impact machine used, Model 8250 Dynatup Instron, was a drop-weight type that employed gravity. The impact velocities used in this experiment were 0.75, 0.90, 1.05, 1.20 and 1.35 m/sec, respectively. Both the load and the deformation increased when the impact velocity was increased. Further, when the load increased with the laminate thickness in the same impact velocity, the deformation still decreased. The extensional velocity was quick, as the laminate thickness increased in the same impact velocity and the impact velocity increased in the same laminate thickness. In the ultrasonic scans, the damaged area represented a dimmed zone. This is due to the fact that the wave, after the partial reflection by the deflects, does not have enough energy to touch the opposite side or to come back from it. The damaged laminate areas differed, according to the laminate thickness and the impact velocity. The extensional velocities are lower in the 0o direction and higher in the 90o direction, when the size of the defect increases. However, it was difficult to draw any conclusion for the extensional velocities in the 45o direction.
In this paper free linear vibration of lattice composite conical shells will be investigated. Lattice composite conical shell consists of composite helical ribs and thin outer skin. A smeared method is employed to obtain the variable coefficients of stiffness of conical shell. The ribs are modeled as a beam and in addition to the axial loads, endure shear loads and bending moments. Therefore, theoretical formulations are based on first-order shear deformation theory of shell. For verification of the obtained results, comparison is made with those available in open literature. Also, using FEM software the 3D finite element model of composite lattice conical shell is built and analyzed. Comparing results of analytical and numerical analyses show a good agreement between them. Some special cases as variation of geometric parameters of lattice part, effect of the boundary conditions and influence of the circumferential wave numbers on the natural frequencies of the conical shell are studied. It is concluded, when mass and the geometrical ratio of the composite lattice conical shell do not change, increment the semi vertex angle of cone leads to increase the natural frequencies. Moreover for shell thicknesses greater than a specific value, the presence of the lattice structure has not significant effect on the natural frequencies. The obtained results have novelty and can be used for further and future researches.

In this present study, we made a first attempt to investigate physical transformations of incident waves in surf and swash zone and hydrodynamic phenomena of detached and submerged breakwaters. For an accurate simulation of the complicated wave deformation, Three-Dimensional numerical model with Large Eddy Simulation has been developed recently and expanded properly for the current applications, which is able to simulate an accurate and direct WAve Structure Sandy seabed interaction (hereafter, LES-WASS-3D). LES-WASS-3D has been validated through the comparison with experimental results for limited cases, and has been used for the simulation of wave run-up on sandy beach, mean fluid flows over and around submerged structures and swash zone (alongshore/rip current), and spatial distribution of wave height in wide fluid regions. In addition, a strategy of efficient deployment ($Y/L_i=1.50{\sim}1.75$, $W/L_r=0.50$) of the submerged breakwaters has been discussed.

Numerical simulations were implemented to look into the modified seabed topography due to the presence of breakwaters of varying reflection characteristics. The numerical model was composed of OlaFlow, an OpenFoam-based tool box, and a physics-based morphology model [Seoul Foam]. In doing so, the interaction between the seabed, which undergoes deformation due to siltation and scouring, and the incoming waves was described using Dynamic Mesh. The rubble-mound, vertical, and curved slit caisson breakwaters with varying reflection characteristics resulted in standing waves that differ from each other, shown to have a significant influence on the seabed topography. These results are in line with Nielsen's study (1993) that sands saltated under the surface nodes of standing waves, where the near-bed velocities are most substantial, convected toward the surface antinodes by boundary-layer drift. Moreover, the crest of sand waves was formed under the surface antinodes of standing waves, and the trough of sand waves was formed under the surface antinodes. In addition, sand wave amplitude reaches its peak in the curved slit caisson with a significant reflection coefficient, and the saltation of many grains of sand would cause this phenomenon due to the increased near-bed velocity under the nodes when the reflection coefficient is getting large.

As the International Maritime Organization (IMO) recently introduced the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships building and the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) for ship operation, thus an accurate estimation of added resistance of ships advancing in waves has become necessary. In the present study, OpenFOAM, computational fluid dynamics libraries of which source codes are opened to the public, was used to calculate the added resistance and motions of the KCS. Unstructured grid using a hanging-node and cut-cell method was used to generate dense grid around a wave and KCS. A dynamic deformation mesh method was used to consider the motions of the KCS. Five wavelengths from a short wavelength (${\lambda}/LPP=0.65$) to a long wavelength (${\lambda}/LPP=1.95$) were considered. The added resistance and the heave & pitch motions calculated for various waves were compared with the results of model experiments.

The cultural heritage of fortresses is often exposed to external elements, leading to significant damage from stone weathering and natural disasters. However, due to the nature of cultural heritage, dismantling and restoration are often impractical. Therefore, the stability of fortress cultural heritage was evaluated through non-destructive testing. The durability of masonry cultural heritages is greatly influenced by the physical characteristics of the back-fille material. Dynamic characteristics were assessed, and endoscopy was used to inspect internal fillings. Additionally, a finite element analysis model was developed considering the surrounding ground through elastic wave exploration. The analysis showed that the loss of internal fillings in the target cultural heritage site could lead to further deformation in the future, emphasizing the need for careful observation.
The influence of ground motions on the seismic response of utility tunnels was investigated. A series of small-scale shaking table model tests were carried out under uniform excitation in the transverse direction. Different peak accelerations of EL-Centro and Taft earthquake waves were applied. The acceleration responses, earth pressure, seismic strain, bending moment and structure deformations were measured and discussed. The results showed that the types of earthquake waves had significant influences on the soil-structure acceleration responses. However, the amplitude of the soil acceleration along the depth showed consistent variation regardless of the types of earthquake waves and tunnels. The horizontal soil pressure near the top and bottom slabs showed obviously larger values than those at other depths. In general, the strain response in the outer surface was more significant than that on the inner surface, and the peak strain in the end section of the model was larger than that in the middle section. Moreover, the bending moment at the corner points was much larger than that at middle point, and the bending moment was greatly affected by both input accelerations and seismic wave types. The opposite direction of shear deformation on the top and bottom slabs presented a rotation trend of the model structure.

It is well known that an Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converter (OWC-WEC) is one of the most efficient wave absorber equipment. This device transforms the vertical motion of water column in the air chamber into the air flow velocity and produces electricity from the driving force of turbine as represented by the Wells turbine. Therefore, in order to obtain high electric energy, it is necessary to amplify the water surface vibration by inducing resonance of the piston mode in the water surface fluctuation in the air chamber. In this study, a new type of OWC-WEC with a seawater channel is used, and the wave deformation by the structure, water surface fluctuation in the air chamber, air outflow velocity from the nozzle and seawater flow velocity in the seawater channel are evaluated by numerical analysis in detail. The numerical analysis model uses open CFD code OLAFLOW model based on multi-phase analysis technique of Navier-Stokes solver. To validate model, numerical results and existing experimental results are compared and discussed. It is revealed within the scope of this study that the air flow velocity at nozzle increases as the Ursell number becomes larger, and the air velocity that flows out from the inside of the air chamber is larger than the velocity of incoming air into the air chamber.

Understanding the nonlinear flow caused by orographic effects can be valuable in siting of new businesses, industries, and transportation facilities. In spite of recent work on large-amplitude waves and wave breaking, the studies of flow around large scale mountains have just begun. The generative mechanism of lee vortices in the lee of large scale mountain is investigated by Ertel's theorem. The CSU RAMS is used as a numerical model. According to the numerical results, the isentropes are depressed behind the large scale mountains. This means the vortex lines must run upward and downward along the depression surface because vortex lines adhere to isentropic surfaces. Therefore, the vertically oriented vorticity can be formed in the lee of the large scale mountain. This vorticity plays an important role for orographic precipitation, because strong vertical velocity and cloud bands are developed along isothermal deformation surface.
A beach nourishment method can be used as one of the beach. The beach nourishment is affected br a natural condition and an artificial condition; a natural condtion include conditions of bottom slope, diameter of bottom materials and wave, and an artificial condition include deposit position, method, diameter and quantity of the nourishing sand. To obtain and the best diameter of the nourishing sand a two-dimensional hydraulic model test, which simulates the erosional beach, has been accmplished. In this study the protection of the beach erosion can be maximized when the nourishing sand of 0.84mm in diameter, which is about 2.5-3.5 times of the natural bottom materials in diameter.
