  • Based on first-order shear deformation theory, a wave propagation model of graphene platelets reinforced metal foams (GPLRMFs) circular plates is built in this paper. The expressions of phase-/group- velocities and wave number are obtained by using Laplace integral transformation and Hankel integral transformation. The effects of GPLs pattern, foams distribution, GPLs weight fraction and foam coefficient on the phase and group velocity of GPLRMFs circular plates are discussed in detail. It can be inferred that GPLs distribution have great impacts on the wave propagation problems, and Porosity-I type distribution has the largest phase velocity and group velocity, followed by Porosity-III, and finally Porosity-II; With the increase of the GPLs weight fraction, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be increased; With the increase of the foam coefficient, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be decreased.

  • In this paper, considering the temperature dependence of material physical parameters as well as the effects of thermal effect and shear deformation, we have conducted an in-depth study on the wave propagation of functionally graded (FG) materials circular plate in thermal environment based on the physical neutral surface concept. The dynamic governing equations of functionally graded plates are established, and the dispersion relation of wave propagation is derived. The influence of different temperature fields on the propagation characteristics of flexural waves in FG circular plates is discussed in detail. It can be found that the phase velocity and group velocity of wave propagation in the plate decrease with the increase of temperature.

  • Studying the propagation characteristics of waves in circular plates has important engineering value. In this paper, graphene sheet reinforced foam (GPLRMF) circular plates are taken as the research object, and the propagation characteristics of shear and bending waves in the structure are analyzed. In the process of research, we assume that the material properties are closely related to temperature, and use the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to establish the dynamic model of GPLRMF circular plates. Considering the simply supported boundary conditions, the relationship between phase velocity/group velocity and wave number was obtained through Laplace transform. Subsequently, the influence of material and geometric parameters on wave propagation characteristics was analyzed, and the results showed that the porosity coefficient and temperature had a significant impact on the characteristics of wave propagation in circular plates.

  • Offshore substructures have been developed to support structures against complex offshore environments. The load at offshore substructures is dominated by waves, and deformation of waves caused by interactions with the current is an important phenomena. Wave load simulation of fixed offshore substructures in waves with the presence of uniform current was carried out by numerical wave tank technique using the commercial software, FLUENT. The continuity and Navier-Stokes equations were applied as the governing equations for incompressible fluid motion, and numerical wavemaker was employed to reproduce offshore wave environment. Convergence test against grids number was carried out to investigate grid dependency and optimized conditions for numerical wave generation were derived including investigation of the damping effect against length of the damping domain. Numerical simulation of wave and current interactions with fixed offshore substructure was carried out by computational fluid dynamics, and comparison with other experiments and simulations results was conducted.

  • This work deals with the size-dependent wave propagation analysis of functionally graded (FG) anisotropic nanoplates based on a nonlocal strain gradient refined plate model. The present model incorporates two scale coefficients to examine wave dispersion relations more accurately. Material properties of FG anisotropic nanoplates are exponentially varying in the z-direction. In order to solve the governing equations for bulk waves, an analytical method is performed and wave frequencies and phase velocities are obtained as a function of wave number. The influences of several important parameters such as material graduation exponent, geometry, Winkler-Pasternak foundation parameters and wave number on the wave propagation of FG anisotropic nanoplates resting on the elastic foundation are investigated and discussed in detail. It is concluded that these parameters play significant roles on the wave propagation behavior of the nanoplates. From the best knowledge of authors, it is the first time that FG nanoplate made of anisotropic materials is investigated, so, presented numerical results can serve as benchmarks for future analysis of such structures.

  • The aim of this work is to analyze and predict the wave propagation behavior of the carbon nanotube reinforced composites (CNTRC) beams within the framework of various higher order shear deformation beam theory. Using the Euler-Lagrange principle, the wave equations for CNTRC beams are derived, where the determining factor is to make the determinant equal to zero. Based on the eigenvalue method, the relationship between wave number and circular frequency is obtained. Furthermore, the phase and group velocities during wave propagation are obtained as a function of wave number, and the material properties of CNTRC beams are estimated by the mixture rule. In this paper, various higher order shear beam theory including Euler beam theory, Timoshenko beam theory and other beam theories are mainly adopted to analyze the wave propagation problem of the CNTRC beams, and by this way, we conduct a comparative analysis to verify the correctness of this paper. The mathematical model provided in this paper is verified numerically by comparing it with some existing results. We further investigate the effects of different enhancement modes of CNTs, volume fraction of CNTs, spring factor and other aspects on the wave propagation behaviors of the CNTRC beams.

  • This paper presents a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique to obtain compressive stress-strain data for rubber materials. An experimental technique that modifies the conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) has been developed for measuring the compressive stress-strain responses of materials with low mechanical impedance and low compressive strengths such as rubber. This paper introduces an all-polymeric pressure bar which achieves a closer impedance match between the pressure bar and the specimen materials. In addition, we are a pulse shaper to lengthen the rising time of the incident wave to ensure stress equilibrium and homogeneous deformation of a rubber materials. It is found that the modified technique can be determine the dynamic deformation behavior of an NBR rubber more accurately.

  • A specific experimental method, the Split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) technique has been widely used to determine the dynamic material properties under the impact compressive loading conditions with strain rate of the order of 10$^3$/s∼l0$^4$/s. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of rubber materials widely used for the isolation of vibration from structure under varying dynamic loading are determined by using plastic SHPB technique. A transition point to scope with the dynamic deformation behavior of rubber-like material is defined in this paper and used to characterize the specifics of the dynamic deformation of rubber materials.

  • Colluvial sell has a very unique deformation property, particularly when it is subject to the cutting work entailed in a variety of construction. In this study, the cut slope tying on a colluvial layer in which the transmission tower had been installed were investigated to find out the cause of deformation. In-situ tests such as boring, surface-wave analysis (MASW) were employed to look into the physical composition of underground layers and FEM including LEM were carried out to simulate the construction steps. The result shows that the stress relaxation followed by road construction induced the deformation of the slope and damage in the foundation of the transmission tower.

  • In the majority of previous studies on deformation of seabed structures using DEM, elements of structures have been assumed that it is composed with uniform materials or received fixed wave force, despite that actual submerged structures are composed with various size materials and influenced by complicated fluid field. The goal of this study is to develop a new model for analysis of seabed structure deformation using discontinuous structures composed with various size materials. As the first phase, a model using DEM and VOF, which can compute the deformation of submerged structures composed with various size materials, such as rubble mound structures, is proposed. A model test is carried out and then the validity of the model is discussed.
