  • Shipwaves can have harmful effects on people who are using riverside and cause bank erosion, bank structures destruction in restricted waterways. The wave field near a vessel is consisted of a combination of a primary and secondary wave system in a shallow or restricted waterway. The water level depression(squat) and return current beside the hull are called the primary wave system. The secondary wave system, that is the wave height originates from a local disturbance point such as the bow of the ship. This study aims at investigating the characteristics of the wave field around a vessel in a restricted water in relation to navigation experimentally and theoretically. The return current and squat with a correction factor can be newly evaluated and the almost same high-sized wave heights take place on the whole waterway in a restricted water without regard to the distance from the sailing line.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the dynamics of an atomic wave packet whose center-of-mass motion is quantized in a resonant standing wave cavity field. The mechanical aspect of the matter-field interaction has been extensively studied In the theme of atomic beam deflection, diffraction, or reflection by a standing-wave field. The effect caused in the behavior of spontaneous emission by the atomic center-of-mass motion, classical and quantized, in a standing wave cavity mode has been studied, and recently the one-atom laser with quantized atomic center-of-mass motion has been investigated. • Using a 3-D numerical scheme (LES-WASS-3D) that considered wave-structure-sandy seabed interactions in a 3-D wave field, we analyzed the wave reflection and hydraulic characteristics inside a slit caisson with two chambers in a 3-D oblique wave field. To verify the 3-D numerical analysis method suggested in this study, we compared the numerical results with existing experimental results and found good agreement. The numerical analysis revealed that a standing wave field is generated on the front side of the slit caisson due to the effect of wave reflection. For incident waves propagating perpendicular to the slit caisson, the nodes and anti-nodes of the standing wave are apparent and symmetrical. However, in an oblique wave field, as the incident wave angle decreases, the nodes and anti-nodes of the standing wave become ambiguous and unsymmetrical. It was also found that the wave reflection coefficient decreases as the incident wave angle decreases. It can be pointed out that as the incident wave angle decreases, the turbulent intensity in the chamber increases. Thereby, the increased wave energy dissipation by the increased turbulent intensity reduces the rate of wave reflection. In addition, a strong turbulent intensity generally occurs in the first chamber.

  • In this research we have used the definition of standard fractional vector cross product to obtain fractional curl and fractional field of a standing wave, a travelling wave, a transverse wave, a vector field in xy plane, a complex vector field and an electric field. Fractional curl and fractional field for a complex order are also discussed. We have supported the study with calculation of impedance at γ = 0, 0 < γ < 1, γ = 1. The formula discussed in this paper are useful for study of polarization, reflection, impedance, boundary conditions where fractional solutions have applications.

  • When an object or objects, rigid or flexible, presents in incident sound field, the sound wave is scattered. This, we call, is scattered sound field. It, of course, depends on the amplitude and the direction of the incident sound field as well as the geometry and the surface impedance of the scatterer(object). This paper addresses the way to measure scattered sound field by using arbitrary incident sound wave. This means that the method can decompose the scattered field from measured sound field with respect to any magnitudes and directions of incident plane-waves.

  • A Typhoon wave is generated by wind fields during the Passage of Typhoon. Transporting wind field makes wind wave and swell in the open sea, and then, those wave components are transported in the shallow water. Typhoon waves in the shallow water is generated by Typhoon wind field and incident wave. Bisides, Incident waves to the shallow water are deformated by topographic conditions. This paper estimated the analysis of the Typhoon waves by wind fields and incident waves according to wave action balance equation model. As the result of wave numerical experiment, wave field during the passage of Typhoon 'Memi' in the shallow water is strongly effect by wind fields. Wave action balance equaion can be partially used for Typhoon wave simulations.

  • This study proposes an improved 3-D model that includes a new non-reflected wave generation system for oblique incident and multi-directional random waves, which enables us to estimate the effect of the various wave-types on 3-D wave fields in a coastal area with permeable submerged breakwaters. Then, using the numerical results, the three-dimensional wave field characteristics around permeable submerged breakwaters are examined in cases of oblique incident and multi-directional random waves. Especially, the wave height, mean surface elevation and mean flow around the submerged breakwaters are discussed in relation to the variation of incident wave condition.

  • The evaluation of field degree of consolidation on soft clays has been an important problem in geotechnical areas. Monitoring either settlements or pore water pressures has been widely applied in the filed, but occasionally they have some problems. This study addresses the suggestion and application of another method for evaluating the degree of consolidation using shear wave velocities. A research site where soft clay layers were consolidated by surcharging loads was chosen. Laboratory tests were performed to determine the relation between shear wave velocity and effective stress. Field seismic tests were conducted several times during the consolidation of the clay layers. The tests results show that the shear wave velocity increased significantly as clays consolidated. The shear wave velocities at each field stress states were derived from the laboratory results and the degree of consolidation was evaluated by comparing the shear wave velocities obtained by laboratory and field seismic methods. In most stress states, the degree of consolidation evaluated using the shear wave velocity matched well with that obtained from field settlement record, showing the potential of applying the method using shear waves in the evaluation of field degree of consolidation on soft clay deposits.

  • In the past, the use of wave energy has mainly been focused on conversion of large wave energy resources in the far offshore areas. However, with the technological improvement of converting wave energy into electricity, the energy resources at much shallow waters are now considered as a site for possible installation of the devices that obtain energy from the waves. In this respect, the wave energy resources on the east coast of Korea, where the sea is milder than the open ocean, were investigated using the field measurement data obtained at three different locations along the coast. For all the locations, the wave power was greater in winter season, compared to summer season. The estimated wave power varied from 2 to 4.5 kW/m on average, depending on the measurement locations.
