  • A novel silicone (Si) containing vinylic monomer, N-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl) methacrylamide (TESPMA), based on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and methacryloyl chloride (MCl) has been synthesized for formulation of waterborne polyurethane (WPU). Two types of vinyl group containing Si, methacryloxypropyltriethoxysilane (MPTES) and triethoxyvinylsilane (TEVS), have been used as coupling reagents for comparison of the effects of Si kinds with TESPMA on the WPU. A series of new siliconized WPU, vinyl acetate/vinyl ester of versatic acid (VAc-Veova), TESPMA, MPTES and TEVS hybrid latexes have been successfully prepared by emulsion polymerization in the presence of WPU dispersion.

  • Waterborne polyurethanes(WPU) based on castor oil were successfully prepared using polycaprolactone diol(PCL), castor oil(CO) and 4,4'-methylene dicyclohexyl diisocyanate($H_{12}MDI$) as soft segment part, dimethylolbutanoic acid (DMBA) as emulsifier, and trimethylamine(TEA) as neutralizer based on different molecular weight of prepolymer. The various properties such as mechanical strength and surface reforming were evaluated using UTM, contact angle, FE-SEM based on the different molecular weight of polyol. Waterborne polyurethanes based on castor oil could be considered as a promising candidate to be applied the various adhesion fields.

  • Waterborne polyurethane dispersion (PUD) was synthesized by capping the NCO groups of polyurethane prepolymers, prepared from isophorone diisocyanate, polycarbonate diol and dimethylol propionic acid, with aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS). Subsequently, silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion was synthesized by reacting the PUD with the mixture of acrylate monomers, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate. The average particle size of silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion, measured by the dynamic light scattering method, was increased from 39.0 nm to 399.8 nm by increasing the addition amounts of APS. Also, the pencil hardness of coating films of silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion was enhanced from B grade to F grade with increasing APS content.

  • Anionic or Zwitter-ionic waterbone polyurethanes (WPU) based on mixtures of hydroxy terminated poly-butadiene and poly(propylene glycol) were prepared and their physical properties were characterized. Particle size of WPU increased with increasing the content of HTPB. It was observed that the microphase separation of soft segments and hart segments increased with increasing the content of HTPB in the WPUs. Zwitter-ionic WPU showed stronger hydrogen bonds between molecules than anionic WPU after drying. Polyurethane films obtained after drying of WPUs exhibit besmechanical properties when the HTPB content among polyols for WPUs were 25wt%. It is postulated that such mechanical properties resulted from different microphase separation of soft segments and hard segments of polyurethane films obtainec after drying of WPUs.

  • Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) has good properties such as high conductivity, optical transmittance, and chemical stability, while offering relatively weak physicochemical properties. The main purpose of this paper is the improvement of physicochemical properties such as solvent resistance and pencil hardness of PEDOT. Carboxyl groups in the anionic type waterborne polyurethane (WPU) chains can effectively crosslink each other in the presence of aziridine, resulting in physicochemically robust PEDOT/WPU organic-organic hybrid conductive thin films. The electrical conductivity, optical properties, and physicochemical properties of the hybrid conductive film were compared by varying the solid content and WPU portion in the coating precursor solution. From the results, the transparency and surface resistance of the hybrid film show a decreasing tendency with increasing solid content in the coating precursor. Moreover, solvent resistance and hardness were dramatically enhanced by hybridization of PEDOT and crosslinked WPU due to curing reactions between carboxyl groups.

  • Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) which is environment friendly has been rapidly used in coating and adhesive industries. However, the WPU is deficient in chemical resistance, thermal resistance, and mechanical property compared to solvent-based polyurethane. In this study, the WPU was synthesized from two types of polyester polyols, 4,4-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate ($H_{12}MDI$), dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), triethylamine (TEA) and ethylenediamine (EDA), organophilic nanoclay. The thermal stability, mechanical property of the WPU nanocomposite dispersion increased with increasing clay concentration. Especially, their peel strength showed their maximum value at 3 wt% of organophilic nanoclay contents.

  • Ultramicrofiber(UMF) PET knitted fabric and regular PET plain woven fabric as reference sample were impregnated with waterborne polyurethane(PU) in a two-step process with dyeing/PU treatment and PU treatment/dyeing to investigate the effect of the treatment sequence. The waterborne PU impregnated fabrics were dyed with two kinds of vat and disperse dyes to investigate the dyeing properties and the dyeing fastnesses. In vat dyeing the rank of color strength(K/S) was in order of dyeing/PU impregnation > dyeing only > PU impregnation/dyeing, whereas in case of disperse dyeing, the order was dyeing/PU impregnation > PU impregnation/dyeing >dyeing only. Wash fastness of vat dyeing showed a higher 2-3 grade than disperse dyeing, while rubbing and light fastnesses were not good for disperse dyes.

  • Recently, Waterhorne polyurethane(WBPU) have been used for a wide range of commercial applications due to the increasing environmental regulation to reduce low-volatile organic compounds in coating and adhesives materials [1-8]. The WBPU was used in coating industry on fiber at first, and its market is increasing these days. Especially, the Waterborne polyurethane film even is widely used in the field of breathable coating fiber or medical science [9-10].   • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesive properties of polyurethane mixed aqueous dispersions by omitting the primer, dealing with the preparation of skins for synthetic leather with excellent adhesion by omitting the pre-treatment process. The two-component mixed polyurethane water dispersion was prepared by synthesizing an ester-based polyurethane resin (PU-T) and a carbonate-based polyurethane resin (PU-C) to obtain the final resin. As a result of measuring the peel strength of the adhesive specimens omitting the pre-treatment agent, it was confirmed that the state adhesive strength (ethylene vinyl acetate (middle): $4.2kg_f/cm$ and rubber (outsole): $4.4kg_f/cm$) there was. This makes it possible to omit the pre-treatment process which has been indispensably used in the shoe manufacturing process, thereby reducing the process time and reducing the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) generated in the pre-treatment product, resulting in environmentally advantageous.
