  • This research was focused on the new model and its utility value of environmental friendly backhouse that overcomes the weaknesses of traditional backhouse and modem backhouse. To develop the model, the characteristics, merits and demerits of backhouses and the effectives of additional materials were analyzed and the study result of Rhee etc.(2005) is based. The design drawing of an ecological backhouse was presented considering the sanitation, environment, economy, and utility among the merits of existing backhouses and it's product showed. The new designed model is considered to conveniences in modern toilet and staff is used instead to water as it is suitable for additional material of night-soil. This product was established at farm house and it's utility was proved. And a farmer easily are able to make this backhouse according it's design drawing.

  • The field-surveyed and measured energy consumption data is processed to develop building energy demand models for heating, hot water, cooling, and electricity. The load models are systematically organized as a database and hourly loads for a span of year (8760 hours) are generated by the program. Rased on those models a Microsoft Access application program is developed to calculate energy demands for a Community Energy System (CES) composed of 17 types of buildings. User-friendly interfaces are provided to assist non-expert end users and necessary tools to link the calculation results to subsequent coagulations such as operation simulation or economic assessment.

  • This research develops an easy-to-use, environmentally friendly method for fabricating functional 1050 aluminum alloy surfaces with excellent corrosion resistance. Functional aluminum surfaces with various nanostructures are fabricated by controlling the experimental conditions of anodizing process. The experiment used a multi-step anodizing process that alternates between two different anodizing modes, mild anodizing (MA) and hard anodizing (HA), together with a pore-widening (PW) process. Among them, the nanostructured surface with a small solid fraction shows superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of more than 170° after water-repellent coating. In addition, the surface with superhydrophobicity is difficult for corrosive substances to penetrate, so the corrosion resistance is greatly improved.

  • Currently, Hyphantira cunea Drury, the fall webworms (FWW), is one of the most severe insect pest for various landscaping trees and mulberry trees. In this study, we investigated whether FWW might be managed by Sodium saccharin (SAC) which is a food additive and not toxic to humans and environment. We found that FWW larvae treated with various concentrations of SAC showed dose-dependent delayed development and low survival rates. The lethal-concentration 50% of FWW larvae to SAC was 0.03 M. We also confirmed that SAC can be used to control FWW larvae attacking mulberry trees in the field. Compared to not-treated or tap-water-spraying control groups, SAC-spraying groups showed significantly higher mortality rates of FWW larvae (56.2%). Thus, SAC can be used for control FWW larvae in mulberry trees.

  • Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is an effective and environment friendly technique; it possesses extensive potential towards producing high-energy density solid fuels. it is a carbonization method of thermochemical process at a relatively low temperature ($180-250^{\circ}C$). It is reacted by water containing raw material. However, the production and quality of solid fuels from HTC depends upon several parameters; temperature, residence time, and pressure. This study investigates the influence of operating parameters on solid fuel production during HTC. Especially, when food waste was reacted for 2 hours, 4 hours, and 8 hours at $200^{\circ}C$ and 2.0-2.5 MPa, Data including heating value, proximate analysis and water content was consequently collected and analyzed. It was found that reaction temperature, residence time are the primary factors that influence the HTC process.

  • The golden apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata, is a freshwater snail native to tropical and subtropical South America. The species was introduced into Korea as a human food source in 1983 and was first applied as a weed control agent for the paddy fields in 1992. As the snail is well known as an environmentally friendly biological control agent for weeds, the area of cultivation in which the golden apple snail is used for biological control has been enlarged substantially each year. Currently, the species is observed in open water courses. It is possible that the snail may overwinter in these open water courses and may become a serious pest, as is already the case in many Asian countries. In this study, we determined the status of the overwintering golden apple snail based on a literature survey and investigated the potential distribution area of the snail, as a result from global warming in Korea. The potential distribution area of the overwintering golden apple snail would be enlarged under the influence of global warming; ranging from 45.5% of South Korea's land area in the 2020s to 88.4% in the 2080s.

  • A Microsoft $Access^{(R)}$ application that estimates hourly building energy load is developed based on statistical field measurements. Hourly patterns of heating, hot water, cooling, and electricity loads are evaluated for an energy consuming community composed of various types of buildings. Popular building types such as apartments, offices, hotels and accomodations, stores, churches, schools and educational institutes are included in the model. For each type of buildings, hourly patterns for a month are measured and compiled to derive a 24-hour load distributions. Daily sum of heating, hot water, cooling, and electricity loads are also measured for the building types. The annual energy need profiles are generated by combining the 24-hour distribution and 365-day consumption patterns. The annual maximum values of the 8760 hours of a year for each load type serves as a guide for selecting a device capacity. A user-friendly interface that ushers users throughout the whole process is provided.

  • In this study the flow characteristics around the cutter head which makes the dredging soil suspended were measured to evaluate the environmental affect of the dredging action. The PIV was used for measuring the flow characteristics around the cutter head for suction and non-suction cases. As the results, the mean velocity was decreased from the cutter head to outward. The mean velocity decreasing rate of the non-suction case was larger than that of the suction case, but the turbulence intensity decreasing rate of the non-suction case was smaller than that of the suction case because of the suction energy which makes the z-direction flow.

  • The river environments of many streams in korea have been deteriorate through the rapid industrialization and urbanization since the 1960s. In Germany and Japan, on the other hand, much efforts on the research and project have been made for the restoration of the deteriorated streams to close-to-nature. in order to restore the deteriorated streams, therefore, it is necessary to investigate such advanced technologies and materials. In view of this requirement, various research paths are being taken focusing on coarse aggregates to make multi-functional porous concrete having continuous voids so as to improve water and air permeability, acoustic absorption, water purification, and applicability to vegetation. The Purpose of this study is to investigate the method for recovery of the environment in the streams area using porous concrete block. the porous concrete block applies for test in the cheonggae-cheon have been monitored planting during six month. after 6 months, plant grows flourishing and reconstructed in state such as nature rivers.

  • Stream Pilot Project, which began in May 2003 and finished in December 2003, was selected to develop effective methods applicable to nature-like streams. Stream restoration projects aim to maintain or increase ecosystem goods and services while protecting downstream and coastal ecosystems. Fields environmental monitoring such as flow discharge and precipitation were conducted along the Idong stream for amount of channel zone change in 2007. This study selected three monitoring positions to measure the water level and discharge of flowing water. A stage-discharge relation is obtained from direct discharge measurements for three stations by fitting an empirical relationship to the data set. Since discharge measures are made only for low flow conditions, a curve of discharge against stage can then be built by fitting these data with a power curve. And this study used data obtained from floodmark checkup as well as HEC-RAS model to analyze the hydrodynamic characteristics of monitoring sites. Reach-averaged hydraulic parameters for the supply reach were calculated from the small area's HEC-RAS model for Idong stream, and a HEC-RAS model used to analyze hydraulics for a period in 2007, after the stream was considered bank stabilization.
