The simulation of electric field distribution of discharge tube with globular $Al_2O_3$ and the removal characteristic of Escherichia coli by the discharge tube with globular $Al_2O_3$ were estimated. The removal characteristic of Escherichia coli was related to the input voltage because the electric field is increased according to input voltage. As the passing amount of test water in discharge tube is increased, the removal ratio of Escherichia coli was increased because passing numbers of electric field section is increased. As the particle size of globular $Al_2O_3$ increased, the removal time of Escherichia coli was shortened due to the dielectric polarization of globular dielectric $Al_2O_3$. Also, the removal efficiency of Escherichia coli for the discharge tube with globular dielectric $Al_2O_3$ was higher than that of the discharge tube without it.
In order to increase chemical durability of thin films in binary system B2O3-SiO2 and Al2O3-SiO2 on the slide glass by the dip-coating technique from TEOS(Tetraethyl Orthosilicate) and boric acid or aluminum nitrate, phosphoric acid(5~20mol%) was added, respectively. Corrosion of acid and alkali of samples treated with 1N, HCl, NaOH and distilled water at 10$0^{\circ}C$ for 15 minute, were measured IR transmittance and variance of transmittance at visible range. Surface structure of thin film was investigated with SEM and formation of crystal phase according to additiion of phosphoric acid was measrued with XRD. In Al2O3-SiO2 system, change of remarkable characteristic was not obtained at the addition of P2O5 but transmittance of thin film was decreased with addition of P2O5 in B2O3-SiO2 system.
To confirm the applicability of the water gas shift reaction for the production of high purity hydrogen for petroleum cokes, an unutilized low grade resource, Cu/ZnO/MgO/Al2O3 (CZMA), catalyst was prepared using the co-precipitation method. The prepared catalyst was analyzed using BET and H2-TPR. Catalyst reactivity tests were compared and analyzed in two cases: a single LTS reaction from syngas containing a high concentration of CO, and an LTS reaction immediately after the syngas passed through a HTS reaction without condensation of steam. Reaction characteristics in accordance with steam/CO ratio, flow rate, and temperature were confirmed under both conditions. When the converted low concentration of CO and steam were immediately injected into the LTS, the CO conversion was rather low in most conditions despite the presence of large amounts of steam. In addition, because the influence of the steam/CO ratio, temperature, and flow rate was significant, additional analysis was required to determine the optimal operating conditions. Meanwhile, carbon deposition or activity degradation of the catalyst did not appear under high CO concentration, and high CO conversion was exhibited in most cases. In conclusion, it was confirmed that when the Cu/ZnO/MgO/Al2O3 catalyst and the appropriate operating conditions were applied to the syngas composition containing a high concentration of CO, the high concentration of CO could be converted in sufficient amounts into CO2 by applying a single LTS reaction.
Planar BiVO4 and 3 wt% Mo-doped BiVO4 (abbreviated as Mo:BiVO4) film were prepared by the facile spin-coating method on fluorine doped SnO2(FTO) substrate in the same precursor solution including the Mo precursor in Mo:BiVO4 film. After annealing at a high temperature of 450℃ for 30 min to improve crystallinity, the films exhibited the monoclinic crystalline phase and nanoporous architecture. Both films showed no remarkably discrepancy in crystalline or morphological properties. To investigate the effect of surface passivation exploring the Al2O3 layer, the ultra-thin Al2O3 layer with a thickness of approximately 2 nm was deposited on BiVO4 film using the atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. No distinct morphological modification was observed for all prepared BiVO4 and Mo:BiVO4 films. Only slightly reduced nanopores were observed. Although both samples showed some reduction of light absorption in the visible wavelength after coating of Al2O3 layer, the Al2O3 coated BiVO4 (Al2O3/BiVO4) film exhibited enhanced photoelectrochemical performance in 0.5 M Na2SO4 solution (pH 6.5), having higher photocurrent density (0.91 mA/㎠ at 1.23 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), briefly abbreviated as VRHE) than BiVO4 film (0.12 mA/㎠ at 1.23 VRHE). Moreover, Al2O3 coating on the Mo:BiVO4 film exhibited more enhanced photocurrent density (1.5 mA/㎠ at 1.23 VRHE) than the Mo:BiVO4 film (0.86 mA/㎠ at 1.23 VRHE). To examine the reasons, capacitance measurement and Mott-Schottky analysis were conducted, revealing that the significant degradation of capacitance value was observed in both BiVO4 film and Al2O3/Mo:BiVO4 film, probably due to degraded capacitance by surface passivation. Furthermore, the flat-band potential (VFB) was negatively shifted to about 200 mV while the electronic conductivities were enhanced by Al2O3 coating in both samples, contributing to the advancement of PEC performance by ultra-thin Al2O3 layer.

To investigate the effects of Mg addition at different aging times and temperatures, Cu/MgO/Al2O3 catalysts were synthesized for the low-temperature water gas shift (LT-WGS) reaction. The co-precipitation method was employed to prepare the catalysts with a fixed Cu amount of 30 mol% and varied amounts of Mg/Al. Synthesized catalysts were characterized using XRD, BET, and H2-TPR analysis. Among the prepared catalysts, the highest CO conversion was achieved by the Cu/MgO/Al2O3 catalyst (30/40/30 mol%) with a 60 ℃ aging temperature and a 24 h aging time under a CO2-rich feed gas. Due to it having the lowest reduction temperature and a good dispersion of CuO, the catalyst exhibited around 65% CO conversion with a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 14,089 h-1 at 300 ℃. However, it has been noted that aging temperatures greater or less than 60 ℃ and aging times longer than 24 h had an adverse impact, resulting in a lower surface area and a higher reduction temperature bulk-CuO phase, leading to lower catalytic activity. The main findings of this study confirmed that one of the main factors determining catalytic activity is the ease of reducibility in the absence of bulk-like CuO species. Finally, the long-term test revealed that the catalytic activity and stability remained constant under a high concentration of CO2 in the feed gas for 19 h with an average CO conversion of 61.83%.

Flexible organic light emitting diodes (F-OLEDs) requires excellent moisture permeation barriers to minimize the degradation of the F-OLEDs device. Specifically, F-OLEDs device need a barrier layer that transmits less than $10^{-6}g/m^2/day$ of water and $10^{-5}g/m^2/day$ of oxygen. To increase the life time of F-OLEDs, therefore, it is indispensable to protect the organic materials from water and oxygen. Severe groups have reported on multi-layerd barriers consisting inorganic thin films deposited by plasma enhenced chemical deposition (PECVD) or sputtering. However, it is difficult to control the formation of granular-type morphology and microscopic pinholes in PECVD and sputtering. On the contrary, atomic layer deoposition (ALD) is free of pinhole, highly uniform, conformal films and show good step coverage. Thus, $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ multi-layer was deposited onto the polyethersulfon (PES) substrate by electron cyclotron resonance atomic layer deposition (ECR-ALD), and the water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) were measured. WVTR of moisture permeation barriers is dependent upon density of films and initial state of polymer surface. A significant reduction of WVTR was achieved by increasing density of films and by applying low plasma induced interlayer on the PES substrate. In order to minimize damage of polymer surface, a 10 nm thick $TiO_2$ was deposited on PES prior to a $Al_2O_3$ ECR-ALD process. High quality barriers were developed from $Al_2O_3$ barriers on the $TiO_2$ interlayer. WVTR of $Al_2O_3$ by introducing $TiO_2$ interlayer was recorded in the range of $10^{-3}g/m^2.day$ at $38^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity using a MOCON instrument. The WVTR was two orders of magnitude smaller than $Al_2O_3$ barriers directly grown on PES substrate without the $TiO_2$ interlayer. Thus, we can consider that the $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ multi-layer passivation can be one of the most suitable F-OLEDs passivation films.
PVA/GLA/$Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SiO_2$ composite membranes were prepared through the reaction polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with glutaraldehyde (GLA) as a cross-linking agent and subsequently adding aluminum silicate ($Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SiO_2$) as an inorganic material. The water uptake decreased as the GDL contents increased due to cross-linking process of PVA with GDL, and the ion conductivity increased as the $Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SiO_2$ contents increased in PVA/GLA/$Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SiO_2$ composite membranes. The cross-linking structure of the polymers was confirmed using IR and the tendency of water uptake. The thermal analysis of the copolymers was carried out by TGA. TGA results showed that PVA/GLA composite membrane were more heat-resistant than PVA due to the cross-linking of PVA, and the heat stability of the composite membranes improved much more as the concentration of $Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SiO_2$ increased. Membranes prepared in this study seem to be have thermal stability and increase a tendency of the cation conductivity up to $60^{\circ}C$, but to be exhibit lower performance tendency at over $90^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is necessary to do more aggressive effort to explore the possibility of application as an ion-conductive composite electrolyte.

$K^+-{\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ in the ternary system $K_2O-MgO-Al_2O_3$ was directly synthesized by solid state reaction. The phase formation and phase relation were carefully investigated in relation to starting composition, calcining temperature and time, and dispersion medium. The optimal synthetic condition was also examined for the formation of ${\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ phase with a maximum fraction. As a composition range, the mole ratio of $K_2O$ to $Al_2O_3$ was changed from 1:5 to 1:6.2 and the amount of MgO used as a stabilizer was varied from 4.2 wt % to 6.3 wt %. The calcining temperature was selected between $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1500^{\circ}C$. At $1000^{\circ}C$, the ${\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ phases began to form resulted from the combining of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ and $KAlO_2$ and increased with temperature rising. All of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ phase disappeared to be homogenized to the ${\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ phase at $1200^{\circ}C$. Near the temperature at $1300^{\circ}C$, the fraction of ${\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ phase showed a maximum value with the composition of $K_{1.67}Mg_{0.67}Al_{10.33}O_{17}$. At temperatures above $1300^{\circ}C$, the fraction of ${\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ phase decreased gradually owing to $K_2O$ loss caused by a high potassium vapor pressure, and the appropriate calcining time was about 5 hours. Acetone was more effective than distilled water as a dispersion medium for milling and mixing.

We fabricated organic-inorganic superlattice films using molecular layer deposition (MLD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD). The MLD is a gas phase process in the vacuum like to atomic layer deposition (ALD) and also relies on a self-terminating surface reaction of organic precursor which results in the formation of a monolayer in each sequence. In the MLD process, 'Alucone' is very famous organic thin film fabricated using MLD. Alucone layers were grown by repeated sequential surface reactions of trimethylaluminum and ethylene glycol at substrate temperature of $80^{\circ}C$. In addition, we developed UV-assisted $Al_2O_3$ with gas diffusion barrier property better than typical $Al_2O_3$. The UV light was very effective to obtain defect-free, high quality $Al_2O_3$ thin film which is determined by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). Ellipsometry analysis showed a self-limiting surface reaction process and linear growth of each organic, inorganic film. Composition of the organic films was confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Ultra-violet (UV) spectroscopy was employed to measure transparency of the organic-inorganic superlattice films. WVTR is calculated by Ca test. Organic-inorganic superlattice films using UV-assisted $Al_2O_3$ and alucone have possible use in gas diffusion barrier for OLED.

[ $MO/Al_2O_3-ZrO_2$ ](M=Ni and Cu) mixed metal oxides were prepared using sol-gel method in order to investigate the applicability to the 2-step thermo-chemical water splitting process and their redox behaviors were studied by temperature programmed reaction(TPR) from room temperature to 900$^{\circ}C$ under 5% $H_2$/Ar for the reduction and $H_2O$/Ar for the oxidation, respectively. From the results, peaks of the reduction and the oxidation on temperature were shifted with the change of crystalline phases due to the addition of $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$. The intensities of the peaks were also increased with the increase of contents of NiO or CuO that could be considered as active species. In addition, based on the observation of SEM images before and after the redox test, it seemed that $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2$ added prevented high temperature sintering of active metal components such as Ni (or Cu) on the surface and played a role of dispersing the active species homogeneously in solid solution of mixed oxides.
