  • The water ejector is a low pressure high flow rate volumetric pump. It utilize the energy of a low mass flow, high velocity stream to induce a large mass flow, low velocity stream. In addition, it has a very good resistances to cavitation compared to the other type of pumps, and the maintenance cost is practically nil. There has been enormous energy loss to supply the upper part water of dam which has large potential energy as mere irrigation water in domestic multipurpose dam. The new type of energy saving system which developed through the present study can economizes over 950,000 kWh per year by mixing the upper part water of dam with the waste water by the large water ejector. This paper estimates the economical efficiency of the new type of irrigation water pumping system, and further more, represents the change of performance characteristics of large water ejector, which was adapted to this system, according to the fluctuation of upper water level that seasonally changes.

  • The survey on the sanitary conditions to the water supply facilities, privy facilities and disposal methods of human excreta in Sindong area of Choonseung-gun, Kangwon Province was carried out during 7 months from May to November, 1976. The results of the survey are as follows. 1) The pump-wells are used in the 1,185 households as 66.7% of 1,775 and are almost private. 2) The materials of drainage floors and drainage are almost cement, and the drainages are good condition. 3) Most parts of dug-wells have been used beyond 9 years after installation, and disinfection of water has not been carried out in the case of 68.1% of total wells. 4) Objectives of water use to the number of households as 60.2% are drinking, kitchen and cleaning. 5) Water consumption per capita day is estimated to be about 22.7% litters. 6) 1,521 households as 85.7% of total 1,775 possess their private privies and the numbers as 80.6% of the private privies are located outside the houses. 7) The privies are needed to be improved much more in the view point of excreting to the ashpile instead of the septic tank in the case of 39.2% of total households. 8) Human excreta as manure are used to the field in the number of households as 82.4 of total 1,316.

  • Ballast water from ship harmful microorganism sterilized use of electrolytic sterilization system. The experimental methods were use of peristaltic flow pump upward on electrode pole. Due to reaction time, HRT were unlike microorganism on flow rate. In electrolysis, dioxide iridium coated titanium(Ti/IrO$_2$) and stainless steel plate were used for anode and cathode respectively. Current density controls make use of D.C Power supply on 250V 100Amper. Experimental use of current density between 0.1 and 0.5A was able to disinfect microorganism at 5 seconds by the reaction time. This study shows that the electrolyzed water has a potential for the sterilization of ballast water.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a method for diagnosing the degree of gradual degradation of a reciprocating pump caused by continuous use as a water supply pump in a nuclear power plant. Normally, the progress of such degradation is too slow to be noticed. Hence, it is difficult to determine the degree of degradation using the existing diagnostic methods. In this paper, we propose a new method by which the normal state and the degraded state of the pump can be differentiated, so that the degree of degradation can be identified. First, an emulator was developed using FPGA by providing the parameters of the pump under normal state, so that the emulator generates the information of the pump in the healthy state. Then, by comparing this information with the parameters received from various output sensors of the emulator during the current state, it is possible to identify and measure the degree of gradual degradation. This paper presents some of the results obtained during the development process, and results that show how the emulator operates, by comparing the data collected from an actual pump.

  • The management and installation methods of pressure gauges in water supply pipeline are not efficiently regulated and their installations are different in each site. In this paper, various domestic and overseas documents are examined about the pressure gauge. In order to improve the efficiency of operation management such as pipeline network and pump operation, water pressure needs to be measured as accurate as possible, by which decision making for optimal pipe network can be achieved. To get the goal, the installation of pressure gauge should be reviewed about where and how to install. In this study, an optimal horizontal distance test is conducted, in which pressure value variation is monitored and analyzed according to up and down stream distances and valve flow control, and a optimal vertical position test is also analyzed by installing the pressure gauges vertically from the up(180°) to the bottom (0°) of the pipeline.

  • To enhance thermal efficiency of thermal facility through recovery of low and medium temperature waste heat, 1MW organic Rankine cycle system was designed and developed. The exhaust gases of $175^{\circ}C$ at two 100MW power plants in pohang steel works were selected as the representative of low and medium temperature waste heat in industrial process for the heat source of the organic Rankine cycle system. HCFC-123, a kind of harmless refrigerant, was chosen as the working fluid for Rankine cycle. The organic Rankine cycle system with selected exhaust gases and working fluid was designed and constructed. From the operation, it was confirmed that the organic Rankine cycle system is available for low and medium temperature waste heat recovery in industrial process. The optimum operating manuals, such as heat-up of hot water, turbine start-up, and the process of electric power generation, were derived. However, electric power generated was not 1MW as designed but only 670kW. It is due to deficiency of pump capacity for supply of HCFC-123. So it is necessary to increase the pump capacity or to decrease the pressure loss in pipe for more improved HCFC-123 supply.

  • Flow quantity to supply to a coil in floor heating system is important to achieve comfortable indoor air condition in the winter season. The hot water header is used to distribute the water into the coil. Experimental study has been performed using the water header that have 5 branches consisted of flow control valves and automatic shut-off valves. Each branch line connected it with X-L pipe. Experimental tests accomplished it to investigate the flow distribution characteristics of the hot water header. Experimental results show that the selection of the pump head and differential pressure are very important to save running energy of the system, and high differential pressure needs more friction loss in the case of suitable differential pressure for balancing of the header.

  • A Study on Typical Rates of Water-use for School Facilities has been carried out in this work. Water supply system is given much weight in school facilities. Therefore, it set up a basis efficiency using of water sources to calculate typical rates of water use. The results are summarized as follows ; 1) On the whole, typical rates of water-use was founded out 15 L / stu. d in pirmary school, 10 L / stu. d in middle school and 30L / stu. d in high school smaller than the existing it. It was rate of water-use change as season and Max. Rates of water-use was July. 2) I deem that school hours are 5 hour's in primary school, 7 hour's in middle school and 8 hour's in high school. It the concept of 1 hour that is lesson time 40 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in primary school, lesson time 45 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in middle school and lesson time 50 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in high school. 3) It is desired that we calculate the volume of pump and water tank throughout this concept and the size of water tank should be 1.5 times with taking pick load into consideration by this study on typical rate of water-use. 4) The amount of using water increases in gradually and I consider the life cycle of facilities is more than 10 years. As a result, I can forecast that the size will be insufficiency but I deem that if we devise a plan about parallel pumping on water tank space, we can cope with it. Also, it is expected that we can cut back the transport energy by controlling pump volume.

  • The electric heat pump requiring HCFCs as a refrigerant has been for most residential air-conditioners in Korea. They cause a surge up electric power demand during summer. Moreover, the use of HCFCs and HFCs causes a serious problem to the global environment such as global warming and ozone layer destruction. An absorption chiller and heater could solve such problems. It was built and tested for analyzing the performance of the absorption chiller/heater. Experiment was done with a 1.5RT household absorption chiller and heater. It was experimented that the cooling capacity, gas capacity, COP were researched by the temperature of cooling water. The change of the cooling water temperature have effect the temperature(or pressure) of the parts on absorption chiller The result of the change of the cooling water temperature have the effects of the absorption chillers. This data will help to operate the household absorption chiller and heater.
